Something that should be noted: Kiryu and Nishiki got into the Yakuza even though Kazama didn't want them to. Kazama then started having to move them around as pieces of his plots. Kiryu's final decision as a Yakuza was to remove himself from the Tojo clan even though Kazama had manipulated him into the chairman position. Their first and final decisions as Yakuza was rebelling against mastermind Kazama's plans, the first time out of loyalty to him and the final time out of responsibility to someone else.
I would love if, akin to "unalive", whenever a tiktok uses "beat the hell up" it instead uses something similar to Chase's "Kiryu introduces him to his friend Mr. Pavement"
The beauty of Majima's character is that from judging him by his cover he seems like a "silly goofy guy" who is obsessed with Kiryu but in truth the persona of the "mad dog" is just that, a persona. The whole reason Majima acts the way he does is because it is a coping mechanism from the trauma and loss of those in his life like Makoto and Saejima. He puts on the insane and intimidating "mad dog" act because he dosen't want anyone to get close to him again in fear of losing them and the pain that comes with it. His "love" and obsession with Kiryu comes from almost a projection of those Majima has lost in the past that he has put on him. Kiryu reminds him of Saejima and even Makoto to an extent as Majima knows Kiryu was involved in that whole incident involving her so in a way it's his only tie to her anymore. Majima is one of the best nuianced characters in gaming and one of the best written because of just how truly tragic his story is and how he copes with it. A very relatable coping mechanism for those who have been hurt in their pasts and want to avoid it ever happening again, but in a way he is truly even more lonely than Kiryu. Great episode guys! Can't wait for kiwami 2!
Having caught glimpses of Majima in later Yakuza games, seeing him occasionally act completely normal is surprising after catching up with how hard he used to go.
I'm with monty, i wish the games had shown us that instead of leaving us to infer and guess that kiryu is probably important to majima because he reminds him of makoto and saejima.
Majima's yakuza personality is basically that episode of Hey Arnold! where Arnold convinces Harold to not fight because he is crazy, and you should never fight a crazy person.

Thank you Lore Dump for getting me into the Batman Arkham games and the Yakuza games. Completing them 100% is a pain but still so much fun. It was mainly Majima Everywhere that sold me on Yakuza.

This is a minor detail that can kinda get lost in pronunciation but the bar being name Pares (pronounced like Ares with a P before it - Perries or Pares depending on your language), is meant to be another sign of it being a cheap knockoff of Ares (Erries or Ares), along with the whole 2 Mizuki’s thing.
The more i listen to these, the more i find myself feeling for the narrator that can never get any peace. And the more i want the chaotic side tangents to continue. This stuff is amazing!
To go back to Monty's criticism about Yumi not appearing in Yakuza 0, if Chase was correct in the Y0 videos about Yumi not being present due to her being underaged, it was probably because they didn't want a situation where Kiryu had romantic tension with a minor, especially when Kiryu already looks so much older than his actual age in that game
Thing is I don't think we ever get an age for yumi we just know she's younger than kiryu while kiryu is 20 in 0. Personally I have the same complaint with 0 in hindsight.

Really excited to see how the group handles Kiwami 2, AKA when the whole plot jumps out the window and we get a new one every game.

Ok post 3 requesting either or both the dragon age franchise or the persona franchise. Also these lore dumps have got me inspired to play Yakuza so I picked up Yakuza 0 today. I already love that they have a dedicated button to make your character follow someone at there pace
I love all these boys so much (the yakuza characters and our lovely hosts) but I feel like it really needs to be emphasized that Yakuza 0 was basically just fanservice. Plot threads that don’t seem to go anywhere are mostly nods to bigger events later in the series and are there for the fans to point at and go “ah!” Characters seem underdeveloped because we are sort of expected to already love them. We get to play as Majima because everyone adores him but don’t ever get a chance to play as him later on. Kiwami 1 and 2 also borrow from this because they’re both remakes after the fact and spend a lot of time making references to future events that they are now aware of with the benefit of hindsight. I know this is a few videos late and I am thrilled you are enjoying Kiwami 1 more than you were Yakuza 0! Just keep in mind that a lot of weirdness or inconsistency is just absolutely shameless fanservice.
