Recently took the AirTrain from Kennedy Airport to Jamaica station to connect to the LIRR that took me into Penn Station. Painless. And the Moynihan Train Hall is spectacular.
The Moynihan Train Hall occupies the General Post Office Building and is used solely by AMTRAK. The LIRR uses Penn Station under Madison Square Garden, sharing tracks and platforms with New Jersey Trainsit.
Wow! I’ve been in this Jamaica station coming from JFK on the air train. ! When i lived in Carle Place LI , Jamaica was the main hub in the 70’s , i think still it is ! Good job !
While Jamaica only has a convenience in the main train hall and a snack shack on the upper level, since it's primary role is as an across platform transfer poin, such amenities aren't needed! That being said the area around the station is surrounded by multiple resteraunts, hotels and stores! It is a far from a non retail oriented community! The M7s include standard outlets on the outer seats adjacent to car doors!
@@troybellamy4615 Thanks for the awesome info! I wasn't at Jamaica for long, so I didn't have time to check out the surrounding area, but I'll be sure to dedicate more time to exploring next time I'm in the area. I also didn't know about the outlets at the door adjacent seats. Seems like a weird choice to have only one spot with outlets.
@@LonestarTrips The outlets are primarily for employee car maintenance, but the train crews never object if you plan something in! Most commuter rail system seem to have these hookups! The area around the Jamaica Station has been designated an airport arrival zone so in recent years has added a lot of tourist based infrastructure! It also happens to be at the very end of the Jamaica Business District! Within walking distance you'll find landmarks going back to the 18th century and a a few museums! It really is a nice area with a very diverse history! Most of the high rises you see sprouting up around the station are aimed at enticing Airport workers to have housing close to the Airport or to offer fair priced accommodations close to the Airport! The area has seen quite the the transformation within the last few years! The majority of railroad commuters who've ever stopped at Jamaica Station have never ventured past it's platforms so it would never be able to support a large retail mall or food court found similarly sized stations! It is very good at what it does however! If you ever return there, you'll notice that the bulk of the headhouse serves as company headquarters!
Lucky! I've been able to catch a glimpse of them hiding in Philly's yard, but never up close. Hopefully I'll be able to make it out to the Northeast for their first revenue runs in 2024.
loved the video and thanks for sharing. Always enjoy your content and the information you provide. Looking forward to next weeks B777 flight and at some point, a bit more of a look at the Moynihan Train Hall which looks fantastic. Cheers.
I'm glad you enjoyed! I'll be going more in depth on Moynihan in a couple weeks when I take the LIRR back to Jamaica to head to the airport, although I'm not to sure when that will be. I may take a look at the footage I have of Moynihan and if I have what I need, I'm considering making a standalone video touring the station.
The 3rd photo shown was the Woodbridge station at Jamaica Ave in Richmond Hill, Queens, NYC. It ended in 1928.The elevated line above served both subway and el trains to 168th street terminal in Jamaica. Q
I'm glad this was what you were looking for! I do my best to give informative and entertaining trip reports, and I love hearing that people enjoy what I make!
super informative and interesting! i’m by no means a rail fan and rarely if ever do i have time to begin my own research but this video was super refreshing to see! i hope to travel via train and visit moynihan hall one day…ive been psyched since it’s grand opening!! i look forward to more content like this…especially LIRR from Queens to Penn Station. Thank u good sir!!!
Thanks for stopping by, and I'm glad you enjoyed! As I mentioned in the video, I'll be going more in on Moynihan Train Hall in a future video. I haven't decided yet if it'll be a standalone video or it will be a part of a future trip report, so that's something to look forward to!
you may say it’s parade but i can’t even tell you how many times i’ve been blocked by passenger trains while being on another platforms and trying to get rare stuff
Thanks for your video! We are traveling to JFK very soon. Family with on child and some suitcases. What public transport and route would you recommend and might be better to handle with some suitcases? 😋✌️ thanks. Take care.
I would recommend taking the LIRR and AirTrain to JFK. The LIRR will guarantee you have plenty of space for luggage without having to deal with the subway. Plus the airtrain to JFK is super easy, so definitely the best option.
As a New Yorker who grew up there, I will tell you. Get a ticket Woodside station and go upstairs for the Manhattan bound 7 train Get off at Courthouse Square 1 stop after Queensborough Plaza. The Woodside station has been in service for both trains since 1917. And I still remember the wooden escalator from the sidewalk to the token booth below the train tracks. We lived in Woodside from 1957 til 1961.
Good video when I could watch it. I had to close my eyes several time when you were scanning back and forth quickly. Made me dizzy. Keep up the good work but please scan slowly. Thanks

the washer and dryer work better if you stick you finger up into the hole further in the back

@@luislaplume8261 yet again my comment has been deleted...why
4x200kW per car is not bad.
The subway robot reminds me of something you might see in fallout haha
people are sitting on the floor...there are no seats/benches.

Sorry about that! I was in a rush when filming so I had to make do with what footage I could get.
Great video but please scan left and right slowly. I got so dizzy I had to stop watching.
It continues to look like a depressing modern day disaster.
