Congratulations Thea!!! The restrictions of no photos did not stopped you in your objective of providing a great Path Train guide. Kudos for your creativity!
Back in the Neolithic era when I took PATH the price was 35 cents and the turnstiles took coins. People got very good at the quarter - dime drop, or occasionally the three dime - nickel drop. During rush hour someone who fumbled with their coins could cause major jam ups at the stiles. For a while the subway and PATH were both 35 cents but then the subway was raised to 50 cents. People in the know would take PATH in Manhattan between Christopher street and 33rd to save the 15 cents if going that route.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm taking the PATH tomorrow to meet up with someone and was having a lot of anxiety about it since I've not taken it before, plus only having rode the train once before. Learning about the limited routes on the weekend just saved me the headache of walking around trying to find the train from Hoboken to WTC. You're video was very informative even if you were limited to Lego. I'm feeling much more confident, huge thanks again!
Thea is showing some love to New Jerseyan. Haha the first minute of introducing Jersey City crakes me up. I'm sure you can do a whole other video just about Jersey City. Thank you for building these logos to make it more illustrative. Path to New York
I used the PATH quite a bit during my high school, college, and post-college eras. They had the tokens back then, a little easier to use, just not as flexible as a MetroCard is used. Thanks for treating us from the Garden state with respect. We are also known as the Chemical state. It really isn't a bad place to live. You can stretch your arms without actually hitting someone.
Hi! Just wanted to compliment you on your videos. I was born, grew up, and spent most of my adult life living and working in the NYC area, including a stint working in Midtown Manhattan. Your content is informative, thorough, and entertaining, and it reminds me so much of home. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
South Jersey and Philadelphia’s version of PATH is called PATCO which stands for the Port Authority Transportation Company a unit of the Delaware River Port Authority which operates one line between Lindenwold, New Jersey and Philadelphia via Camden. Their reloadable card is called Freedom.
I often took the PATH train to visit a friend who lived in Hoboken. There were no Metro Cards back in 1990, I recall you had to get a coin-like token. Good work, I wish you had more viewers. Love from Belgium! 😎
Very informative. The PATH trains is like the path between the heart of the metropolitan area; between the heart of the world's economy engine, NYC, Jersey City's downtown (the heart of the economy engine of NJ) and downtown Newark, (another economy engine of NJ and the east coast). Millions of people lives between these areas. Very important trains. No wonder, those trains are always packed of people. I have ride those trains before and I love it👍
1973 is the first time I have heard about the PATH trains when I moved out of state from Staten Island to New Jersey. The three things I remember about the PATH trains 50 years ago were (1) you didn't buy tokens you put coins into the turnstiles (2) PATH cost 30 cents, NYC Subways cost 35 cents (3) The seats on the PATH trains were padded. Great video as always Thea! Another big thumbs up 😎👍 I loved the Mets cap in the background ⚾️
Fresh NJ air is a bit of an oxymoron! And yes, NYC is behind the times with in-unit laundry due to the age of most apartment buildings. It’s only now that they’re being allowed with prior approval and if the location is close to a water source within the apartment (eg, sink or bathtub/shower).
If y’all don’t know the routes it’s like this NWK-WTC: (Red) 24/7 service JSQ-33: (Yellow) All day, via Hoboken on other times HOB-33: (Blue) Weekdays, replaced by JSQ-33 via HOB other times HOB-WTC: (Green) Weekdays Only, Other times take NWK-WTC to Grove for JSQ-33 via HOB
It's pretty creative using Legos for your PATH Train video. It's a bummer you can't take pictures or film at a PATH train Station but most people sneak it in!!
4:32 From Newark Penn Station to Newark Airport, take NJ Transit Bus 62, which goes directly to the terminals, without even need to take the Air train. It's a bargain and only takes 20 minutes!
Great job, finally someone who likes and understands our vast and multi-faceted rail system. Only comment is Newark is a short "a" and kind of slurred together, sometimes it can even become Newrk. Glad you like NJ so do many of us. Love the magical and fresh air compliments. Thanks again good video.
Grandfathered in thanks to the Pennsylvania Railroad, I like to think that's where the WTC-NWK line gets its deep red color from. Not sure if you knew, but Exchange Place used to be a riverfront terminal for the PRR much like Hoboken. The PATH, or Hudson & Manhattan as it used to be called, would forward commuters into the city while Penn Station in Manhattan was for the more important long-distance trains. The Port Authority stepped in after PRR closed Exchange Place to make sure the system didn't go bankrupt. Funniliy, this means that PATH predates the MTA despite the system as a whole being slightly younger
Thank you for making this video. We will be staying in NJ and are trying to figure out how to get to NYC. I already watched you Subway and Subway card videos. 😁
Good luck to you! I'm publishing another video sometime in March about the OMNY readers and fare capping. But in case you need the info now, you can check it out here: omny.info/fares
I ride the PATH a lot when I visit the area because it is the easiest way to get from Jersey to Lower Manhattan. But last time I rode the PATH, I got confused with the different machines. I lost $2.75 and I don't know how it happened. It took my money and no card. It's like NJ Transit, there are no instructions!! I have been yelled at by more than 1 bus driver and train conductor because I was trying to do something which only real New Jersey residents should be allowed to do!! But I have learned to take it with a smile. Word to the wise, never piss off your bus driver. He can make you get off in the weirdest places. The conductors own their rides!
Ahhh PATH. Used to work for them. They do indeed enforce that no photos and recording rules more so after 9/11. Let me guess, you got called out for taking photos or recording at either Exchange Place, World Trade Center, Christopher St, Pavonia Newport or Hoboken. Security has a heavy presence there
These are great info Thea. You're doing a great job. I've studied your videos so much before my first trip to USA coming up later this year. Many thanks

I have a question when I Tap my smartlink card at the turnabout entrance how is the conductor going to punch your ticket and how do you let the conductor know that you paid ?
Thanks for this video!I loved the LEGOs, and I'm very creative of you. Do you know if the PATH uses "Tap 2pay" by using credit cards? I'm planning to visit NYC next weekend for 2-3 days with family. My cousin wants me to stay in Queens and use the subway to go into Manhattan, but the hotels prices are very expensive for my family of 5. I am thinking of staying in NJ near the Newport area and getting the PATH into NYC to save me money. Do you think this is a good idea? Thank you ! Do you have one for Washington D.C too?
Hi, I am watching all your videos... I will travel to NYC on the last week of June. My wife traveled on the last week of May. she had some problems.. 1- SHE SAYS THAT the airtrain metro card was not able to be loaded later with a 7day pass. she says its a different card from the metro card and she had to buy a second card. 2- she got on the bus in manhattan and was looking for he machine to pay, and it turns out, she had to pay BEFORE getting into the buss. 3- on the train from JFK to upper east side manhattan specifically at the Lexington and E train transfer to the GREEN 4 train. it said that late at night the trains are on the platform. she could not figure out where those traines where. She left the station, walked back in and nothing, so she left again and walked back in on another entrance where there was finally a booth with a person that told her how to navigate the train station at Lexington. uff it was a lot of time to figure that one out. 5- where to go shopping in NYC ? where to buy food at a good price to cook at your apartment ? 6- where to buy clothing and electronics at good price? 7- outlet stores ? I like your videos and I subscribed and I am watching them al... also... you should make.. .returning videos... from manhattan to JFK AND LGA AND EWR... 8- how to go to six flags in jackson newjersey I want to take my kids and I don't know if I should pay a hotel in new jersey for 1 night, because the only buss route that I am able to find, gets you there at 11:20 and the part starts at 10:30 and closes at 8 and the buss says it leaves at 8, but you can be inside your last ride in the park at 8 and actually exit a little later... so any thips are welcome. we love amusement parks.. well.. my kids.. I get dizzy now.
As a tourist, visiting NYC for 1 week and living in NJ (near Exchange Place), we will visit NY each day. Do you recommend buying a 7-day smart link card for NJ as well a 7-day METRO card for NYC?
Hi there. The Smart Link card itself will cost $5, so there might not be much savings. Personally, I would just pay per ride with a MetroCard when taking the PATH. Unless you already have a Smart Link card, then maybe refill it with a 10-trip. Hope this helps.
My best ways from Manhattan to Newark Airport: 1. Midtown or where ever it is easy to get to Penn Station. NJ Transit Penn Station Manhattan to Newark Airport Airtrain Station. 2. Lower Manhattan if in easy trip to WTC. PATH WTC to Newark. At Penn Station Newark go downstairs and out main entry and take a taxi. it is usually fast and worth the price (especially as you saved taking PATH.) There is an airport bus 'somewhere in Midtown. ' Hard to find, hard to get ticket from Agent and is better to use an app if you must. But I don't like where NYC pushed the NWK and LGA/ JFK busses away from across from Grand Central some years ago when they closed the street for bike station and pedestrians on the E side of the Park Ave. ramp. Bus companies also changed and to me those services are also worse. Horror to find where they stop to pick up at the airport terminals to come back. Esp. at night!
The public buses & specifically 62 & 67 do not make change as mentioned in this video. You can use a credit card but can only pay for 1 person at a time ie. only yourself not including your child or partner. They have to use their own card. Tap is available.
Hi can you help me, I am taking the acela and the last stop is moynihan train hall in New York. Can you tell me the subway train to take to go to Downtown Brooklyn NY
Hi and thank you so much for your very informative video. I feel less stress, thank you!We are going to NYC this holiday and trying to book airbnb and looking for the cost of transportation from NJ. I would like to double check this... the MTA weekly pass from NY will work in NJ PATH? Or is the same name but have to buy one card for each state? Thank you 1000
Hi there. The unlimited MetroCard will not work on the PATH. And the PATH doesn't have an equivalent weekly pass. You just have to pay as you go with the PATH.
Hi, our flight lands at lga but would be staying with a friend in Newark... originally thinking of just staying 1 night at times square and venture next day to newark. But i stumbled on this video... we arrive 8 pm lga -- would you say its a good idea to take the q70 route, train then transfer to path route? If so, could you let me know the exact steps please? im travelling with 12 yr old and 18 yr old teens (3 carry-ons with 3 backpacks). Appreciate your help.
Thank you for your video! I just wonder. How crowded is PATH in the peak hours in the morning and the evening? I am afraid so many people are using it for commute. Is it practical and convenient to live in NJ and commute to NYC every day?
If you live in the intermediate area between Newark and NYC, I'd say PATH is a good option. I've only ridden a handful of times, and I will say it can get fairly crowded during peak times. Even on a Sunday, I recall passengers on sitting on the floor on the run out of WTC. The cars are roughly the same size as the A Division trains on the Subway (cars on the 1-7 trains) so they can be pretty packed.
PATH trains are much cleaner and nicer than the NYC subway. However, trains run less frequently and there are always service interruptions. Fortunately, I never have to use it.
Thank you. It took me ages to understand path. Why couldn’t they just extend a MTA line like the 7 create another line (8 train for example) to keep it simple. Why complicate things 🤦
Hi! That is correct. You can use your MetroCard but it will ignore the unlimited programmed on it and will charge $2.75 (if that same metrocard has money on it).
Hello there. The card itself is $1.25 and there are different fare "packages" you can put on it. The complete list is on this website: www.panynj.gov/path/en/fares.html
Does anyone here know how to get back to Penn Station from USB Arena?? Thea, how about a video? I know there's a direct train FROMM Penn to USB but somehow it seems the LIRR hasn't opened a station for the return trip!
Hi. According to alerts, there are only trains to and from the Belmont Park station (next to the USB arena) if there are events happening there. Otherwise, you can walk to the Queens Village station (about a 15-minute walk from USB arena).
@@UrbanCaffeine Thanks but this is for my 18 year old daughter who is going to see Billie Eilish next week. Not crazy about the idea of her walking to the Queens Village station after the show.
It's possible they they'll have service after the event. An alternative to walking could be taking an Uber to the nearest LIRR station that has service.
@@UrbanCaffeine Thanks. BTW, Love your channel. I sent your videos about subways and busses to my daughter when she started school in NYC in September. They were extremely useful.
I wouldn't risk it; look it up. PATH might be Port Authority, but their penalty on photography is pretty severe if you're caught doing it. Amtrak seem to be the same way. I've been approached for filming too much around all three Penn Stations (New York, Newark and Baltimore), as well as Washington Union Station. Yet the two times I've been to NJT's Hoboken Terminal, up close to the locomotives no less, I didn't seem to have any issue. It's weird.
@@russellgxy2905 But why is that the case? Is it some outdated law that pre-dates smartphones? Or do they genuinely not want certain things about the PATH system visible to the public because it might be a security concern?
Congratulations Thea!!! The restrictions of no photos did not stopped you in your objective of providing a great Path Train guide. Kudos for your creativity!
Thank you! I'm glad the Legos worked out.
Who ever told you that is a liar. The 1st amendment protects anyone who films the public in publically accessible areas

Hi!!! The same metrocard can be used for the path and for the weekly subway?
Can you use a 7 day metrocard?
Hello there. The 7-day MetroCard only applies to the subway, bus, and Roosevelt Island tram.
@@UrbanCaffeine thank you
Why can’t you take pictures of PATH
Great channel. I'm going n March. Looking for good aps to use
I hope you have a good trip. I usually just use Google Maps or Citymapper.
What if I buy a metrocard that is unlimited for 7days can that be use for PATH?
Unfortunately unlimited is only for NYC subway and buses.
🎉😮 very useful
PATH trains are much cleaner and nicer than the NYC subway. However, trains run less frequently and there are always service interruptions. Fortunately, I never have to use it.
Hello! Could I take the PATH from the World Trade Center to Exchange Place and back all with one SingleRide fare of I do it within 2 hours?
I’m thinking about going to college at NYU and commuting from New Jersey. Does the train get there fast or do we wait 40 minutes?
I’m glad the LEGOs worked out great for this video. For some, if they are very lucky, they will get away with photography.
agree
Thank you. It took me ages to understand path. Why couldn’t they just extend a MTA line like the 7 create another line (8 train for example) to keep it simple. Why complicate things 🤦
I filmed the path train plenty of times.
They can’t tell you off if your a casual photographer. (It says it on their website.)
That's the best one
I haven't been on the path in 4 years
So I can’t use my unlimited MetroCard to pay for PATH, right?
Hi! That is correct. You can use your MetroCard but it will ignore the unlimited programmed on it and will charge $2.75 (if that same metrocard has money on it).
@@UrbanCaffeine
Okay I see.
Thank you!☺️
How much smartlink card?
Hello there. The card itself is $1.25 and there are different fare "packages" you can put on it. The complete list is on this website: www.panynj.gov/path/en/fares.html
@@UrbanCaffeine I had read that the "plastic" cost $5 and then you loaded the package. Can you confirm if it is $5 or $1.25? tysm
Path to Newark
But no information about the Hudson Tubes, or the Hudson and Manhattan Tubes otherwise a GREAT video.
Thanks! So happy to hear that! Good luck to your daughter 🌟
PATH trains are controlled by the Port Authority. They're controlled by both NY and NJ state governors. It's a public location. You can record there.
@@professional.commentator THE PHOTO BAN PREDATES 9/11 AND 1993 WTC BOMBINGS
You can take photos and videotape, you just have to avoid the station attendants and be discreet
Is 7 days unlimited card cover to PATH also?
Hello there. The 7-day unlimited doesn't include the PATH, just NYC subway and buses.
nice well done
If they told me to stop filming I would but then like 5 mins later I would start again
👍👍😊🇹🇹🇹🇹
