  • Here's a taste of the incredible steelhead fishing you can find in rivers like the Kokish. Unfortunately, the Kokish River is threatened by a Run of River (ROR) Hydroelectric Project. The Southgate and Homathko Rivers are trout and salmon rivers good enough to have hosted a helicopter fishing trip for president Bush. These projects are just two of many projects that the BC government has allowed to threaten some of the greatest fishing in the world--in fact I have heard statements that over 600 BC rivers have permits pulled for ROR. Please inundate the BC government with emails, letters, and phone calls to put a stop to green-er power and demand that they find clean power. If you love steelhead and salmon, please bang out an email to save the greatest steelheading province in the world. Copy your emails to Ron.Ptolemy@gov.bc.ca, Martha.Anslow@gov.bc.ca and mjl@telus.net.
Fly Fishing Fantasies plans to release their video, Paid in Full in 2011. Just pointing out that at least there are some dams being removed for the good of fish and wildlife populations. We need more of this rather than the opposite. I'm glad people like you are opposed to damming more rivers. Please voice those opinions to government.

Favourite outfit is a Sage 7119-4 switch rod with a 7 weight skagit line and a dry tip.

Run of the River projects do not create dams. They use they only use a small amount of diverted water which is run thru the turbines and put back into the main flow in the same condition it went in. Most projects are developed above salmonid habitat or the diversions are limited to ensure flows in the mainstem are adequate to support all life cycles of salmonid species. Do not confuse Run of the River with historic hydro power from Dams. Run of the River projects only use the water available at any given time in the system and do not have water storage capabilities.

+Michael Verschoor Looks like you work for Hydro, Michael. The dams may not be as big, but there certainly are diversion dams. There have also been fish kills around some of these run of river projects. The water from more than 10 km of The Kokish River is gone. Sure it goes back in the channel--just above the ocean, which doesn't provide that water for the whole section the pipeline skirts around. Here are a couple captions from Wikipedia that seem to suggest there are impacts: Diverting large amounts of river water reduces river flows, affecting water velocity and depth, minimizing habitat quality for fish and aquatic organisms; reduced flows can lead to excessively warm water for salmon and other fish in summer.

60% of the flow is not a “small amount.” That much flow reduction will necessarily impact the Steelhead and Salmon spawning habitat.

So how do you propose we replace the power generation lost by removing dams. Solar and wind are not goning to pick up the slack. If a river has a Dam than it should stay. If it needs to be relpaved then fish ladders should be added. What about the farms that loose the irregation. where will you get you food. As for new dams that should be a very thout out process. If you want to get of fossil fules for power its hydro and geo thermal not wind or solar.

So what do you have to go with you fish and how do you power the stove. People are more important than fish. Though we should take measures to help salmon&steelhead you have to take into account the impact on people when you remove a dam. The Elwah is complete a differnt matter from the Columbia and the Snake. They support too much. Look to the Cowlitz three dams and they have got native fish going again.

It's one of the package of songs in final cut pro 6. I'd have to do some research to remind myself of its name.

I don't have all the answers to your questions. However, 30% of US salmon and steelhead runs are extinct and many others are endangered or highly threatened. For food, wild fish is among the most efficient food sources. Leave the water for fish instead of using it for new agriculture. Dams kill adult fish migrating upstream and fry migrating downstream in addition to flooding much of a river's spawning and rearing habitat. In essence, they solve a power problem and create a different one.

You’re advocating for people to lose jobs because of these fish on a video of you ripping spawning fish off their redds in the early spring. Huh?

In 1993 the California Green Bill was passed, and with it the death knell to the environment, the steelhead and salmon populations. The people voted what was most important to them, they voted for a stronger economy. Myself, I think they were wrong, but who am I. One day, there will come a generation that will have to pay the price for the decisions we have made.

Go Solar Power instead of Dams, you will damage the spawning grounds for salmon & Steelhead and much more

Your just tormenting fish for pleasure. Have the dignity to bonk them after fighting them to complete exhaustion
