Every trip or every time we are on the water we take the joy of the moments and we make it last a life time !!! THAT'S what fly fishing all ABOUT. amazing video!!!!!
Over the past thirty years, the material has evolved but the gesture has always kept its elegance. Thank you for these beautiful pictures. A friend from France
watched it well maybe 25 times now. Must say your series about these 2 guys is truly amazing. Your best work these shots changing focus and scenery and that tree with light coming through. Very very nice. Keeps the blood flowing even in these trying times. I said it before but again thx so much for sharing m8.
Absolutely one of the finest steelhead videos ever and I can hardly wait to get my spey rod working in a few weeks.....oh....my.......goodness. Great, great riffs on the guitar and great fish battles....loved all of it...
I have Never loved watching fly fishing videos until I started watching films by Todd Moen, Absolutely Love his work and laugh at myself when I set the hooks from my bed, hahaha watching my smart TV.....please keep them coming.....Outstanding
Best line was ... fine line between knowing and wanting. That line actually was perfect for me to hear, because the context before about knowledge making confident belief... epic. Very profound. Trouble in my life right now is surrounding that very predicament. Sorry if the haters didn’t get it, but I do.
Incredible video, fly casting, and all of your music, is World Class, Please keep doing these, for us old guys who ant get to fish like this anymore BLESSINGS, oh I'm also a guitar player along with being a fly guy...Love Your Work ALL of You
Beautiful scenery and a great video. I used to fish them as a teenager on the Thompson river south of Cache Creek...can't remember the exact spot as it was 45 years ago. So much fun on a fly. Thanks Jer
@@CatchMagazine really enjoyed you're video..... Especially fly fishing... I am from India.. In kerala.. I would like to purchase some fly tackles... Wich one is best for beginners...... Here i am Target species.. Olive barb, mahseer and Carnaticcarp....
Thanks Todd for keeping us inspired during these tough times while were waiting for our rivers to come back into shape again and spring is just around the corner! Been a super tough year up here on the OP and just the hope of some strong wild fish grabbing our presentations is what we all dream and hope for! Thanks for capturing what it's all about. Cheers, Chuck
Try the remote, wilderness islands of the Alaskan inside passage, all native runs, no crowds, only way to these streams are by floatplane or boat, plus your fishing in the most scenic area on earth! Only downside is the run is fairly short, mostly late feb through late April and the weather.
Do a great lakes steelhead video please. The Niagara River has so few fly anglers and the raw Beauty of the river mixed with big fish and your talent of cinematography would make for a video I'd really want to see. Thank you
Welcome to my youth viewers. And my grandfather said there were times on the Hoh and Quinalt, Wynoochee and Humptulips when you thought you could walk on the fish. Some of the greatest times of my life and I am now 72 and not in the kind of shape to do this type of fishing. I hope videos like this will encourage people to preserve our resources for others to enjoy.
I'm not sure why but my "worst" days of fishing have been alone but my "best" days have always been with pals nearby to help out at the end and take the quick picture. But there really are no bad days. These fish give meaning to every day being a new day and the only easy day on the water was yesterday if...I can borrow a part of the old Navy Seal adage. In any case, nice work filming.
Love this video and the Fall Run video. A lot of fishing videos only show you the angler at the location. You guys took the time to show how much WORK it takes just to get to the fish, then how hard you had to work just to get that one fish. Angling under those conditions in a location that gets more rain than anywhere else in the lower 48 provides its own set of challenges for sure!
Todd, your films capture the pashion we all have for the sport of fly fishing. What sets your films apart for me though, Mis your ability to capture that pashion on video and then intertwine the beauty of those places while telling the story of your subjects in a way your viewers completely relate to. Clearly the standard your peers try to emulate. Really good stuff. Keep telling story of us! Best regards.
I've fished all over the US and many places around the world as well. I've never really had much of a desire to fish for steelhead...until now. That video is fantastic. The camera work and editing is absolutely outstanding! The level of quality in this video sets a very high bar for anyone else in the industry. Exceptional work!!!
Easy, I was a hard core big game hunter and just fished for something to do in-between hunts. These days I'm more interested in fishing, and I'd be all over steelhead fishing if I were in an area that offered it.
That makes since. . Im only 8 miles from great steelhead fishing and a 1/2 mile from ponds and rivers, I can fish all year around for the most part. I hunt when the fishing is slow lol, just not big game mostly birds.
A guy just enjoys what he has around him. There are no steelhead in Montana. So I'm a little envious that you have it so close, but then again Montana has just about everything else an outdoors fanatic could like. So I really can't complain.
CONGRATULATION! OUTSTANDING VIDEO! ... perfectly made ... different camera angles, amazing slomo, touching music, great fish, interesting gear, a story behind ... and for me as a viewer - always that exciting prickling moments! ... Cheers!
Grew up on Vancouver Island British Columbia, fishing steelhead from the mid 70s . This video totally captures the essence and experience a day on the river. Awesome video thank you!! PS: subscribed 👍
Technically excellent videography...much changing of perspective...good B-roll...good audio mix and levels...taking advantage of motion in video versus photo. Great subject...I’m HOOKED!
Wow! Great content and work building the anticipation of the hookup. At 7:45 to 8:10 you discuss changing setups and even rods, do you have any literature available or any references you can suggest to explain the changes mentioned? Again, great entertainment.

Peter Smith you seem educated in the way of the spey so I have a question for you. Can you suggest an all-around set up, (rod length and weight), to get started chasing steelies on the spey? I appreciate any advice offered.
When I moved to the Pacific Northwest from California 20 years ago, I took up fly fishing. I tried for probably four years of occasional steelhead outings to get one on the line. When I finally, it was truly a life altering experience. Those fish are brutes and I NEVER kill wild fish. It's the absolute pinnacle of salmonid fishing, bar none. The good news is the foul weather keeps a lot of fishermen off the water.
there are gloved that you buy, that are resistant to water and have a nice earm costing inside as well as heatpavket holder to keep your hands warm. This gloves aslo extend from finger tups to half up your arm
Spectacular video!!! Wow!!! From a fisherman's point of view it is an excellent source of inspiration, and from an artistic point of view....wow....just wow - what an incredible work of art you have presented us with here!! Amazing footage of rain forest and moss covered ancient trees amid jade colored waters, and those slow shots of silver steelies jumping and thrashing out of the water.....incredible!!! I am so jealous :) thanks for this video!!!! I know first hand how difficult it is to set up cameras and drones, and time that perfect cast or hook set...you make it look effortless!!!! Great, GREAT work!!!!
Sweet video. Just for the sake of knowing, what's an example of a prime setup in terms of rod and reel that guides like for spey casting in these smaller waters they talk about in the video?
Nobody can come close to matching the artfulness of a Todd Moen film. Nobody.
Msquad321 Thanks very much for the support and nice comment! Really appreciate it!
real fishing .... no boats and no high-performance sonar. Only you and him. Respect.

Another rewatch for me. At the end of the film, you were basically filming from my grandparents' house on Three Rocks Road in Otis Oregon
The sight of a white belly of a steelhead can fill you with life, even on a cold, dark winter day!...Keep hammering Todd, epic material my friend!
Best fishing movie ever ,period ,cheers
Beautiful video
Fished the coastals for over 25 yrs , Northern California to Alaska ... 80's thru to 2009 will start it up again someday

Magnificent scenery !
This video really speaks to my love of the Pacific Northwest, chrome Steelhead, great photography and guitar music. Really well done!
NRS Hydro skin gloves - with the three finger slits/velcro back on each hand for fishing - they work, like most NRS stuff I have bought
Beautiful scenery and a great video. I used to fish them as a teenager on the Thompson river south of Cache Creek...can't remember the exact spot as it was 45 years ago. So much fun on a fly. Thanks Jer

What is the song that starts at 5:25? Shazam couldn't identify it. It sounds like a Satriani song...Todd, you have the best music in your videos!
Great vid, beautiful scenery, awesome fish. 👍x100
