    Vevor review videos surprise me regularly by not being the horrible import garbage, I may end up buying something from them someday.

    I bought the set of 3 to see if they were any good a few months ago. I found the "wolf jaws" a bit "how ya going" but the offset and bolt tongs worked very well, working on quite a wide range of material sizes straight out of the box. As you say, they are heavy, heavier than I like for the sort of work i do, but still quite useable!
    My conclusions was they were very good value for someone starting out. Less than half the price you would pay for tongs from any other supplier, and just as functional.

    Personal tongs are safety equipment and built for various operations should be a great skill building experience and built for the task by the user. OK to have great set of illustrations prints or better to have one side to copy from.
    I wish anyone to build 3D plastic tongs as to copy by the Smiths in proportions as the job requires. That will be a big savings and have the right tool for the job as the Blacksmith needs

    Looks like a pretty good selection. And the adjustments, that's just normal procedures for tongs.
    Id reckon it's worth the cash .

    I have been wondering how one of their little London pattern anvils would do for shaping shoes.

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven’t heard, but they should stand up to shaping shoes.

    I wonder if the ones you tried on the railroad spike could be useful for holding larger pieces of thin/sheet metal? Maybe for someone working with armour. Keep giving it some beans, Gary!

      Possibly, I guess it could be.

    I’m not as experienced of a blacksmith as you so correct me if I’m wrong. But water quenching a unknown high carbon steel at orange/red heat isn’t the best idea? I guess you’re not planning on using these tongs but for any beginner blacksmith watching this it might be a bit misleading. It’s probably a mid carbon water quenching steel so it most likely safe in this case although a rough anneal wouldn’t hurt.

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am indeed planning on using these, I'm not sure what your issue is. They are only tongs, mine regularly get up to red/ orange in use when forging small items and I always quench them. What do you expect to happen?

    • @Litrix200
      @Litrix200 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@garyhuston Well my concern was that if it isn’t a water quenching steel they might crack and even if it is water quenching a orange heat is a bit on the hot side for quenching and the steel can get brittle/crack. The jaws/nibs on a tong has to endure a lot of force due to the leverage you get from the reins. Sure if they just accidentally get hardened they will get tempered from holding hot steel quickly. But cracks/brittleness might become dangerous, especially if they’re used with a power hammer. I have huge respect for you and I don’t want to be rude. I just don’t want people getting hurt.

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Litrix200 do you really think they would be made of anything that is likely to harden that much? Even the Chinese aren’t that dumb! Besides, all tongs do is hold the material in place, the hammer does the work. If used correctly they experience very little stress. I have made tongs out of 5/16” round and they are still perfectly ok forty years later. Don’t over think it.

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      🤣🤣 I hardly think even the Chinese would use anything other than plain carbon steel for tongs!

    The tongs look a little light do you think they would work ok under the power hammer?

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Light! I wouldn’t want to hold them all day! Yes, they will work perfectly fine for the power hammer! All tongs do is hold the material in place, they take very little stress if used correctly.
