    After video thought* I've been watching chris since he had the military dump truck the link belt and when he had his house built...
    the fact that he has worked his ass off at such a young age under his uncle and now he made not only enough money for his own life his way but also enough to go on his own with his own machines and not have to rely on his uncle for anything and has prospered as much as he has.....
    Its been quite a journey 🇺🇲🤘

      If only we had more people like him, better yet if the majority would accept the ones trying to make something of them selfs. Instead they get Good friend Joe down the road and his lawn tractor to build a pond . I be there to fix the mess. Costing them more money🤷🏼‍♂️

    Take one messed up patch of dirt, add an excavator, dozer, skid steer, Betty (of course) and one exceptionally talented professional operator and voila - a pond to die for (even if it is 'a hole in the ground'). Great video.

  • @GARDENER42
    @GARDENER42 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Sandy clay averages 1.5 tons a cubic yard, so if you were digging a 6' deep, 1 acre pond & removing the material in a truck carrying 20 tons, it'd be in excess of 700 truck loads.
    Have to drive a 10 mile round trip to dispose of the spoil & you're looking at a fuel bill for the truck alone of $5,000...
    ... plus (optimistically...) another $5,000 for driver's wages.
    Digging holes isn't cheap.

    Spray the belts with some belt lube it might help for awhile.
    I'll tell you a secret., get a gallon jug. Put in 4 jiggers (6 ounces) of acetone. Fill up then with kerosene. You have "sea foam". Use a quart per 20 gallons of fuel once Or twice a year. It helps keep all engines clean. 2 cycle 4cycle gas or diesel. Very good for 2 cycle outboards. Stronger on first dose. Keeps carbon out.

    Around my area we mostly dig ponds for drinking water. You drill a hole 80% chance of getting sulfur water. We build the ponds to be higher then surrounding land. You don't want the run off because of contamination from fertilizer. A lot of places including mine place the dirt at one end in a hill. The run off will help keep it full. We do not usually get as much rain as your area.

For the GoPro, you could try the linear video option for some views of your work and see if that shows the depth of the ponds better. The human eye is equal to about a 42mm lens. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.

    Those of us who are purely armchair tracked loader operators could do with a crash course in how you operate Betty. All those pedals and levers that probably have no electrickery involved in their operation of all the hydraulic valves look quite complicated.

    • @Blazer02LS
      @Blazer02LS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not really that bad. There are three pedals on the floor, left brake right brake and center brake. you steer with the left/right brakes and use the center to stop machine motion. Left hand controls the throttle and the direction the machine moves, There is a U shaped area with reverse on one side forward on the other and the farther back you move it the faster it goes in that direction, basically a shuttle shift transmission. The right hand operates the blade or bucket the lever closest to you raises/lowers the bucket or blade, the lever on the outside controls bucket curl.

    I got lucky on my property. The state needed dirt to build an overpass and road. They took 3 feet of dirt off about an acre then the next 5 to 20 feet of sand and gravel until they hit clay. Then they took a foot of clay to line the walls of the dam with a couple feet of clay. Then they put sand and dirt on top of that. Made money on selling the dirt and sand and got a pond out of the deal. 10 years later it’s full of bluegills and catfish. Plus added a shitload of value to the property. Got lucky is the truth of the matter.

    • @Bill_N_ATX
      @Bill_N_ATX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ryanhoward1013 , sure can. Only downside is that it’s very up and down in level. During drought years only the deep section stays in water…so the pond shrinks to a half to a third and maybe 10 feet deep. I had to run the well hard a couple summers ago to keep the depth up. We had to aerate the water and add some lime but we kept the fish alive. Had a problem a few years back when a new neighbor took a bulldozer to part of his land and didn’t account for the runoff getting silty and dirty. First good rain the pond got real muddy and we had to have a Come to Jesus Meeting on what he needed to do. I didn’t want to get the county or lawyers involved since that rarely makes things better. Thankfully he saw the light and put up silt fences and such so we didn’t have any further issues. He comes over fishing every now and then so I’d like to think it worked out about the best that can be expected.

      Same here, but my area is also Chris' area. That's usually how I see them made then dressed up with the excavator and dozer

    When you build a pond you almost need a different jobsite that needs dirt that way you're not having to waste so much and at the same time could even get a few bucks for the extra material
