Agree. When I was in elementary, I moved to a small town in TN & it was a caucasian town. At that time, I liked caucasian boys. When I moved back to my home state, that changed bc I was in a more diverse community. Mostly person of color & caucasian. It definitely has a lot to do with what type of community you grew up in.

It can influence it, but unless you want to say that all sexual attraction comes from nurture not nature (which is utterly false), then it’s entirely possible for someone to not be attracted to certain skin colors, etc. For example, someone may not be attracted to those with ginger hair, that does not mean it’s nurture, it could just be nature. And I know from experience, not really that attracted to certain skin colors physically, and I’m not necessarily even attracted that much to my own race, it’s just what it is, nature.

I don’t know why but if you believe in that statement, than you can understand why people find the people within there community attractive. To go deeper, I also think that’s why lot of people find white propel attractive. Due to the vast majority of celebrities in America being either white or aim to appear so. Not to say that there not naturally attractive as well. Like if your a kid, you’re going to be attracted to the kids you see on tv and that’s going to translate in real time. There IS a problem with dating someone because you believe certain racial stereotypes about them (e.g. the submissive Asian woman, the well-endowed hyper-masculine Black man, or the hyper-sexual Black woman), but if you are simply attracted to a certain phenotype, I don't see why that would be inherently problematic. A lot of this discourse just devolves into policing people's sexual attractions or dating choices, and that I'm not cool with.

"Caucasian" is NOT the same as "White Europeans". Caucasians are a very real ethnic group from Georgia, Armenia, etc. The only reason people use it to mean White is because of a German anthropologist (Blumenbach) who found a Georgian skull and thought it was the most beautiful one. He then concluded that all Europeans MUST have come from that area bc of their beauty. So I beg of you, as a Georgian to stop using our ethnic group's name to incorrectly refer to yours.

Dating itself is about excluding people. You're looking for the person you think it's suitable for you and your needs and as long as you are what they need, everyone is of legal age, consenting and there's mutual feelings and understanding, go for it.
Some people feel better and safer dating within their race, while others are more open to dating outside their race and take everything that comes with it. To each their own, really. What we shouldn't do is fetishizing. Other than that, we should stop being so offended if we're not someone's type.

I always have been attracted more to femenine looking men, because of how masculinity was portrayed to me by my dad and how I subconsciouslly related it to negative experiences that I had with him. I didn't even realized it, but always had crushes on lots of asian or half asian men just because a lot of times they have really delicate features and it was something I leaned to with out thinking about it. I also found men like Timothy Shalame really attractive too because of femenine facial features. Only last year I started to analyze my preferences and was really surprised.
To clarify things. I never said that I have a "type on asian men" or anything like that and won't date someone because they are asian. I didn't like them because of their race, but because of the way some of them expressed themselves like, style, clothes and make up. My friends were the ones that made me think about it more cause they actually told me about my "preference" and only then I realized it. I hope I didn't say nothing that could offend anyone. Share your opinions about my experience, I would like to know how other people see this kind of situations.

Anyone who says they don't have preference is lying if you ask me. Everyone has a sort of preference. It can change by your age or events but saying you have none at all is not very realistic to me. Most of them are probably afraid to be labelled as "fetishizers" or something like that and refrain from giving an honest answer. It is ok to have preferences, there is a major difference between fetishizing a group and simply liking their features. It is about focusing what people are instead of who they are.
Also preferences definitely change. I am a Turkish woman and growing up I have been attracted solely to White people (hollywood, youtube, some white friends) or my local Turkish folk. I was not attracted to Asian men at all like it was 0%. After I moved to Japan for my work, a month or two later since I was being surrounded by them, my preference definitely changed and I am attracted to those features a lot now. That doesn't mean I will jump unto anyone with East Asian features though. It all ends in personality and compatibility which is the same standard I put for Turkish or White folk.
Also, when I am attracted someone's personality and mannerisms, I start to get attracted to the physical features they have also. Emotional connection turns into physical attraction for me. (Still, has to be with men though...)

I’m more attracted to people that speak Spanish. Unfortunately when I try to filter that on dating sites, it just shows me guys that chose “hispanic” as their race (even though it’s not a race). But I’ve talked to guys of every race and some that don’t speak Spanish too.
I don’t think there’s something wrong with preferences but it’s tricky because it could be rooted in racism or fetishism. Or ignorance. I’ve had a couple guys tell me they’re not into black women, which I am (black hispanic). One of those guys was black and I was in a relationship with and the other was Korean, someone who I met on a forum and we liked eachother before even seeing eachother or knowing race

I am not attracted to fat women and I have no shame saying it. It's just a preference and I cannot change it. It's the same thing as for women who don't find short guys attractive. I don't get why women give so much hate for just being honest. I have all the rights to reject you based on my preferences, just like you do me.

Can u have a racial preference but date outside of your preference? I think yes. Some ppl's preferences aren't really that deep. That might just stem from true ignorance of the unknown.

I"m a dark skinned Black woman and when I was younger, White young guys would approach me. If I had not moved down South away from my first White Italian boyfriend we probably would have been married with a kid. He was soooo sweet and we just clicked. But I love my Black men and I would consider any race again if my current relationship does not last. I'm older now and I also raised my daughter to be open and date outside of her race and not to box herself in. She is currently in a interracial relationship, he's North Indian, and he is the sweetest young man, like a son to me.

People keep confusing what a preference is. Having a preference is basically saying you have a favorite, most people have a favorite color or food but they still like other colors and other foods. A preference is not supposed to exclude groups, that's called discriminating. We discriminate against things and people for many good and bad reasons in society, but usually when you exclude racial groups from your dating pool or social circle, it's probably based on stereotypes and preconceived notions/attitudes for members of that race, which is why it's a problem.

    • @bizzyrizzy4075

Dating is discriminatory in its nature that’s the difference between dating/attraction and racism. You can’t control if someone prefers or is naturally attracted to features over a different set of features. Racism is having a negative connotation for someone based on their skin color and how they look not based on if I’m attracted to you or not
