This has me extremely pumped! I'm not running the marathon but my sister and I are climbing to the top in June. Its the best way to celebrate the combined loss of over 250lbs between the both of us :) I'm so excited!!!!!!
That is a lot of weight lost. Congratulations. To keep it off follow what Jack La Lane the good Christian man said, "If man made it, don't eat it", and exercise 3 hours per day.
Yes - The ascent is held on a saturday, and it is the first half of the marathon course. Shuttles take runners back down the mountain. The marathon is the next day (Sunday). 13.1 up........13.1 down. Some people do "the double": both events back-to-back.
Lets put it this way, Pikes Peak may not be the toughest in the U.S. but its the toughest where anyone is allowed to run and test themselves. Badwater is usually by invitation only and The Western States 100 is qualify or lottery. So Pikes is for us common folk.
They meant the toughest marathon!!! For the distance, it is the toughest in the USA. The other races you mentioned are ultra marathons. One is a 100 miler. The other is 135. You forgot about Barkley...
The first time I ran it, I remember trying to manage my tunnel vision and not black out and fall off the side. Yup, the aid station.... iv's mud and blood. Afterwards I got on my motorcycle and rode back to Alabama. I've run 30 marathons all across the usa. Nothing is even close to this.
Jesus is giving me the entire property and buildings and resources for Charis Bible College in Colorado Springs so that I can convert it into my Ultra Running Training Center...and train for Pikes Peak. Thank you JESUS!!!
I ran this race twice. Most incredible event. Thx
That was a fantastic documentary! Thanks for posting.

That's got to be an amazing run down the mountain.
I've run marathons and I've hiked up 14K peaks. I can't imagine doing both at the same time.
That is why most are hiking up...
if I had $5 for ever time someone claimed 'the ultimate challenge' I'd have enough to enter all of them in the same year.
As far as marathons go, it is the hardest in the USA. On actual trails that is...
the sound wasn't that out of sink! ~ thanks for uploading :)
Great documentary... looks a cool race
