One thing to be aware when redeeming RBC points on AC flights: they don’t accumulate SQD or SQM, even though technically AC considers them as “cash” fares when booked through RBC Avion. We had multiple flights in J on AC booked through Avion that did not count towards AC Aeroplan elite status (they did prior to 2019).
@@PrinceofTravel with RBC Avion chart, where they charged 35,000 base points plus nearly $2,000 in additional “fees” for round trip transcon J on AC. Given the high add-on fees plus 35K RBC points you’d expect them to at least count for AC SQD and SQM elite status, but alas no. AC’s explanation was that it’s an “RBC reward flight” hence no Aeroplan points or status accumulation.
@@kiddo817 Aeroplan, United, and Air Miles flight redemption rewards all worked the same way so I am not surprised but thanks for sharing your experience. Some of the Air Miles flights do now give SQD and SQM since the latest changes. I imagine if you redeem the points at the 2cpp you would have gotten credit. For example the latest CIBC Aventura points promotion counted since it wasn't using any "reward charts"
@@Davidd419 it wasn’t that case pre-2019. Back then you were able to get SQD and SQM even when booked at the standard RBC redemption chart. But around 2019, RBC rewards quietly discontinued this and a lot of flights since then did not credit SQD/SQM on Air Canada (even full fare business class booked through RBC redemption chart which cost thousands of $$ in additional cash payment on top of RBC points). Just wish RBC could be more upfront about this change especially to existing card holders.
Could you make a video on the thought process and considerations when it's time to cancel a card? I signed up for the Amex Aeroplan Reserve card last summer and its coming up on its full year. While I've benefited tremendously from the welcome bonus, I don't think I want to keep it after the first year. But, if I cancel will I be able to sign up for the card again in the future? If Amex offers another welcome bonus on that same card next year, would I be eligible if I reapplied? Thanks for all your awesome content!
I was just looking for a new card because I discovered when attempting to book a flight to Europe that my RBC avion card actually only covers up to $650 towards a flight, then you must pay the difference. Be aware of these limits especially in light of airline tickets being very expensive these days. It turned out to be a better deal for me to pay my friend to buy more aeroplan points than to use my avion points. What the hell is the point of this travel card then?
@Ricky... Previously you had mentioned RBC credit cards are eligible for these Welcome bonuses even when you switch products or apply for a 2nd card while you already have one. But now in their disclaimer it states, previous RBC card holders and product transfers are not eligible. Can you please confirm if you or anyone you knows got the bonuses by doing a product transfer or by applying for this as a 2nd RBC card... I'm wondering if this is something new and worth taking a risk...
I’ve asked this with an RBC advisor. The welcome bonus is only for those who doesn’t have any RBC account yet. However, if you are doing a product switch, there is a 15k bonus instead of the 55k.
I love you videos!!! They are very helpful and really appreciate the hard work you put into it!! Thank you!!!! I have a quick question, Im about to apply for a new CC. Do you recommend Avion VISA infinitive privilege over TD Aeroplan Infinitive privilege? Which one it's a better option for traveling without breaking the bank?

Could I do the sign up bonuses, use the 55,000 points to book a flight, and then product switch to a no annual card to avoid paying a higher annual fee? I’m assuming annual fees are prorated
I've had the Avion visa infinite card for 3 yrs already. I should probably downgrade it to a free one and wait for the next welcome bonus next year. Or maybe try and switch it into the WestJet world elite one and get the welcome bonus for that.
