My great aunt and her brother were booked on the Titanic. He got sick so they had to book a later ship. He must not have completely recovered because he died on the voyage over, leaving my poor little great aunt all by herself on the rest of the trip, grieving the loss of her little brother alone, and then entering the chaos of Ellis Island. She never talked about it. She was quite a wonderful woman. Died in the 1970s and I still miss her. God bless you, Bebe.

My cousins lived near this graveyard. We would visit them when I was a kid and I had this strange fascination with wandering through graveyards back in those days. Yeah, I have three ancestors who died on the Titanic. They were John Finland, his wife, Nancy Finland, and my great grandfather's brother, Frederick Finland.
As my grandmother told me, John was from Berlin, Germany and had heard from a friend that there would be a chance for their families to go to America.
He had saved up his money, and arrived just in time to board the Titanic.
During the sinking, as the women and children were racing to get on a lifeboat, my great grandfather, who was at the time a 6 year old, had followed a lady wearing similar clothing as his mother, and was carrying her baby. So, he unknowingly followed some random lady who looked like his mother onto a lifeboat, surviving the Titanic.
He lived with the lady and her baby until he was taken away into a new family. Soon after, he was told that the woman he had been calling his mother, wasn't his real mother. He grew depressed but luckily around the time he met my great grandmother, it had faded away. They later had 5 children, including my grandmother. Then, my grandmother had my mother, and she had me!
Tysm for reading my family's story.

I live in Mount Carmel. Pennsylvania, a small coal mining community. We have a victim and a survivor of the Titanic buried in a local cemetery. They are however buried in unmarked graves to keep it private. You can read the stories of both men in our hometown newspapers. The survivor eventually came here to work but unfortunately, was killed in a mining accident.

@@mf_explosive304 Sadly, you will hit a brick wall for information. I reported on it as I was doing my research and is in my Mount Carmel book which is out of publication. I spent 12 years reading 104 years of local newspapers to get all my true stories in the book. I then spent another 5 years photographing every headstone in all 11 cemeteries around Mount Carmel and posted them them on Findagrave. I am also a member of the conservatives of the Titanic and was able to obtain a small piece of coal brought up from the bottom of the ocean.
Now here’s the problems you’ll run into. The cemetery they were interred in is naturally public but the church records concerning both men are lost to time. All the church can tell you is they were buried in a certain section, like #8 say, but the exact location in that large section is still unknown. Since I photographed every conceivable place they could be, they’re still lost to time.
I can tell you this, the victim was coming here to live with an uncle in Kulpmont Pennsylvania. He was identified by personal affects in his clothing. The other man who survived was probably ashamed he ended up in a lifeboat, like in the movie, where men were supposed to die. So he changed his name, heard about coal mining jobs in our area and headed here. Unfortunately, mining is a very dangerous occupation down in the mines and on the surface where he was killed. If you wish other information, contact me.

@@jerrybrown7250 I don’t know how, they’re in unmarked graves and I photographed every part of the cemetery. The records have been lost and only the stories about them are the only information available. The uncle of the victim never placed a marker on his grave and he’s been dead maybe 75 years with no known relatives. The sister of the survivor disputed his claim of being her brother and had changed his name because he didn’t want to be found for some unknown reason. If he was her brother, his name was on the roster of passengers but his body was never found after the sinking. Before any kind of White Star investigation could be made, he ended up coming to our community and was killed within days of being here, so the matter was dropped. I’m about to take my final journey home to be with my family, since I’m the last of 11 children, two wives and one daddy. Thanks for the post.

He survived the wreck on cutter lifeboat number one, he was ordered into the boat by Officer Murdoch. This lifeboat was infamous because the Duff Gordons were on it and it was reported that they bribed my great grandfather and other crewmen to avoid returning to the wreck to pickup passengers in the sea. Great video. My great grandfather Albert Horswill survived the sinking of the Titanic. He was on the infamous cutter lifeboat one. He and six other crewmen, Cosmo and Lucy Duff Gordon, their maid, and two other first class passengers. The press accused the Duff Gordons of bribing the crewmen to avoid picking up passengers in the sea. This was not true, it was merely a kind gesture by Cosmo and Lucy Duff Gordon to compensate the men for lost wages. The lifeboat was named the “money boat” by the press. My great grandfather testified at the British inquiry to the disaster along with the Duff Gordons.

These were real people, some moving lock stock, and barrel to America to take up jobs and it was a huge expensive risk, even for the 3rd class. To wrench your children away from all they have known to find out there isn't a boat for them...doesn't bear thinking about. XXXX I lived 3 miles from where the Captains home was.
