This is true. NEVER BUY A BOAT! It requires insurance, taxes, continuous maintenance, a reasonably sized car, a trailer, a hitch, storage, registration, multiple safety vests (different sizes) etc.
@@GMAMEC I live on a boat in the UK, it only has to be tested every 4 years for safety, insurance is about £130, a boat licence 700 and mooring fees 1000 all a year, so for under £2000 i have mu own water mobile home and 2000miles of canals and also the sea if i want, much cheaper than in the USA

Get the guy to write a statement on company letterhead and have the judge call for more detail....it's not that impossible people

Unless of course what the plaintiff was asking the mechanic to claim on their official quote wasn't actually what the boat needed, or was above and beyond what the boat needs to run, thus the plaintiff was asking the mechanic to lie to the court just so the plaintiff could scam money. That would be enough to frighten many people enough to refuse to provide a quote or affidavit.

I'm a retired contractor and I have avoided signing things because they wanted to use my expertise in court. Many times I gave bids/estimates on unfinished work and later learned it was used as evidence. Only once was I subpoenaed to testify and other times I gave written Affidavits.
Plaintiff was not smart in his dealing and he himself provided proof that the trailer was not included in the sale of the boat. He made him lose his own lawsuit on just hearsay. He thought he would look like a big shot with a big boat but with a small brain. .
This is a good example of why to have the evidence to back up your claim on both sides and have a written contract which includes everything and have that contract with you, these 2 guys really had nothing to back up either sides case, but in the end the judge took the side of the defendant, I hope they both have learnt a valuble lesson from this, have a contract written up, have all the evidence to back you up in court if you take it to court...
