There's an initial diagnostic charge, which can be nonsense. They'll deduct that from repairs most of the time (they say) But that analogy/charge doesn't apply to the defendants incompetence.

A better example would be a doctor. You pay a doctor if they make you well or not. Much in IT is the same way. Like being a doctor or a lawyer there are just too many variables for us to use your description as a diagnosis. We never know for sure what we are going to be getting into until we do our own diagnosis. So we do the same thing doctors do. We charge for our time. I can always give you a work around but I can't guarantee perfect results. And I have been doing this for 27 years and have a thriving business. But people need to understand this up front.
