  • I needed some new grow out pens for the rabbits and had some 2 inch PVC laying around. So I came up with a plan to use that to hang my cages from. Thought I would share what I came up with.

I watched your video for some ideas and so made one I used 1x1s (had on hand) and coped your idea. They will be under some trees so I'll attach them to the trees for extra support even though they were very stable. I attached the cages with zip ties added a little wire and a small screw to keep them from slipping. I'm not sure it needed it but I felt better. Only ment to hold grow out rabbits.

Enjoy the honesty in your videos, not sure the PVC will hold up under the heat and wind, maybe some metal rebar down the centre would stabilize the set up. Look forward to seeing how it holds up. Take care.

I like the Dumore cages. I need to get some more. I use old barrels put a piece of wood across them and set cages on wood. I put against cattle panels for extra support. Zip ties work well. I can't use Jclips but reinforce your cages with zip ties. Otherwise your cages come apart. Your videos give great ideas!!

I literally was just at tractor supply and weighed the difference in price, to build a 9 foot long cage with 4 holes in it cost me 110.00 to buy 4 of the dumor cages it came to like 144.00 or something like that, I just chose to buy the wire and build because I don't like having single hanging cages anyhow.

Chris as we were watching the video we noticed the cage upside down, the hubby said you need to tell him, call him now and let him know before he gets them done, haha he thought i was watching you live today. Then he said at least im not the only one that does that kind of stuff. I like the idea of the PVC pipe, i like using PVC for so much stuff.

On really hot day i put frozen water in 2 liter drink bottles in with my rabbits. If they become to warm they go lay beside the bottles. Make sure you lay them down long way it a wonderful relief for rabbits. And less worry for me losing rabbits to heat. I'm in the mountains of Tennessee and it get very humidity here on top of the mid 80s to 90 degrees.

Instead of plastic zip ties get some wire fishing leaders to affix signs and such easy to use and will last longer then the sign itself. If you had more of that 2" pipe you could make braces to go between the legs and strengthen them up good. Using a 2" hole saw in your drill would be easy then just use the pipe glue and you're done
The reason your rabbits kick when you move them is you're grabbing them by their sides (like a predators jaws would do) scruff them on the neck and support their weight with your other hand under their butts they'll be calm and cool as cucumbers.
Always watch things like Craig's list for small mammal cages. You can often find them very cheap or even free to pick up. Always good to have a few extra around might even get some kids interested in raising some rabbits.

The Dumor cages are good for the $ and convenience but I found I have to reinforce them with a little wire or they will fall apart easily, also I had to reattach my door and can't get the door latch to line up without using 2 hands

What is your plan for strong winds on this grow out cage setup? I really like it so far but in Missouri we definitely get stupid winds sometimes

Great video, as usual. Very informative. We are fairly new with our rabbitry. I currently have 6 kits from a very sweet and docile doe. They are 7 weeks. I also have a 9 mo old Silver Fox doe that is very aggressive. Not bred yet, however Im really tired of fighting her, getting bit. She bit my wife the other day. Im thinking of processing the aggressive rabbit, 10 lbs, and keeping one of the grow outs. Is there anything I need to know about processing the 10 lb rabbit vs a 5 lb? Any special treatment of the meat or the same. Processing some 14 week old kits tomorrow for a neighbor and want to process the 10 lbder at the same time. Thanks for any advice.

Tbh im not surprised that one of ur rabbits is agressive, must be sad and depressing having to deal with u every day :/
Its ur fault if shes agressive theres a reason for it, probs bcuz shes stuck in a tiny cage all day.

Hubby uses cable ties on all our fence signs. Some signs are in full sun and others are in deep constant shade. The cable ties rot and the signs fall about once every year or two.

You've got a chicken tractor. Why not make a tractor for your rabbits so they can eat some natural vegetation. Put the tractor in your poison ivy patch and let them destroy it for you. Goats and rabbits have no problem eating poison ivy.

Only problem with that is rabbits love to dig out from under the sides. A piece of wire fence along the inside edges bent at a 90° angle might stop them though. Would cut down on the feed bill and keep the yard looking good too and fertilized.
Of course you'd have to be very select at what rabbits were together. Unwanted breeding and fighting could take place.

I bought a bunch of Dumore cages. I think the floor wire is to large for kits when the first start coming out of the nest box.
My first litters are coming out now and I see the feet slipping through the wire
Especially the front feet. I'm considering getting some 1/2 by 1/2 to put under the cage wire so the kits don't hurt themselves.
And the quality isn't the greatest. I zip tied at all the hooking points. Also had a few doors needing adjustments. But I didn't have the time to make new cages at the time I needed them.
Eventually I will make my own and use the Symore as grow out cages.

@@stevesadnick2041/2x1/2 inch wire is very bad on rabbit feet. Poop will get stuck on it and build up, it will break and cut rabbits feet up. It's too thin of a wire and will hurt rabbits feet. There is a reason it's called razor wire.

those cages r too small must be boring being stuck in that tiny cage all day plus its uncomfortable for them to have to always be standing on wire. Ur literally disgusting
    Rabbits have feeling too
