    I’m not trying to offend you or anything, but I highly recommend taking out the hay ball and the wheel that you are using. That wheel is made out of plastic, and plastic is toxic to chinchillas. Also, chinchillas need very specific wheels made specifically for chinchillas. The reason why you shouldn’t have a hay ball ( the wire sphere that you store your hay inside) is because chinchillas can get their feet stuck inside of them and break their bones. I can tell that you care about your chinchillas, so you should switch your cage accessories :)

    I loved your vid and I have done lots of re search for about two years now but I just noticed you said you feed them raisins at least twice a week but im just going to say this now... raisins are VERY toxic to almost any animal especially chins. so do your research ma'am.

      @potatos4052 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait rasins are toxic?!? I searched it up and it said it's a fine treat :( welp I'ma go throw away my rasins now 😂

    • @clairelim9920
      @clairelim9920 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are raisins really toxic? I've read many reputable sources dedicated to chinchillas that say that it's completely fine and just to feed them in moderation due to the Hugh sugar content

    • @paolamarie8909
      @paolamarie8909 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@clairelim9920 they are considered toxic because, like you said, they are high in sugar. Since chinchillas don’t normally have raisins or other food high in sugar in their diet, excess consumption of these foods can put them at risk for diabetes and other diseases.

    There is some incorrect info in your video that will be dangerous and confusing for new owners. This comment is correction info i have learned from breeders who have been dealing with chins for years and years:
    They actually can live 20+ years in captivity if take proper care of.
    They should NEVER be in temperatures over 72°. Ever. It will kill them. And chinchillers and fans do NOT cool them down quick enough. They must have AC and MUST remain under 72° at all times. 65-68° is the most optimal temp.
    They can jump 6 feet. But they can die or break their bones if they fall more than 18". They are den dwellers. They need a decent sized cage. But not a TALL cage.
    They should have absolutely NO cardboard or paper. Ever. If eaten it expands in their stomach and kills them. They also should never have plastic because it causes blockages that can be fatal.
    The plastic ledge you have needs to be removed or covered in anti-pill fleece because if chewed it can kill them.
    The wheel you have is unsafe because its plastic. Plus chins dont need excessive exercise. It can cause heart attacks. If you have one it needs to be over 14 inches large and secured to the wall.
    Do NOT feed your chins ANY veggies, fruit, seeds, nuts, greens or sugars. (Free feeding, oxbow and hay info in the video was correct.)
    That hay rack needs to be tossed. The metal can break their legs if they get caught in it. And the plastic is unsafe to chew. Same with the metal hay ball. They can break limbs and necks if caught in it. Hay racks need to be attached on the outside of the cage for safety.
    The rest of your info was correct and helpful! Just wanted to correct the unsafe info for those who might be considering getting a chin. Also your chinnys are adorable!!!!

But I find chinchillas very interesting because they're like a mixer like three different creatures. They look like they're part Rabbit part hamster and part squirrel. Seriously they've got a rabbit butt I have a short squirrel tail. And then they have a face of a hamster. It's odd but they're so cute though.

    Hi! I finally found a fellow Argentine! Still trying to convince my parents to get a chinchilla, but I took me 5 years of begging to convince them to get a dog so yeah...

      @@incanusolorin2607 Quite the opposite, pets teach children to be gentle, patient and kind to other living creatures. Provided the parents supervise any interactions between animals and young children, pets can have an overwhelmingly positive impact on the whole household

    • @incanusolorin2607
      @incanusolorin2607 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pinemarten6241 I agree that pets can have a good impact on children. In my opinion, the children are the ones that usually have negative impacts on pets, even if they don’t mean to.
      But I’m not against children taking care of and safely interacting with the household pets. My point is that children shouldn’t be the “official” owners of any animals and a pet shouldn’t be added to the household just because the child “begged their parentes for years”, like the Argentinian boy said. In my opinion, this is a formula for neglect, because children can’t take care of an animal by themselves, so it’s really important that the parents know that they are the ones responsible for the pet. They MUST monitor the animal to see if the child is taking proper care of it and if the child loses interest of fails to properly care for the pet, they can’t just ignore it or get rid of it.

    hi i know that this is a very old vidio but i just saw it now. That hay ball is not good to have for your chinchillas. They can break theyre legs and hurt them. The wheel is good i recommend a chin spin. But i dont think theres any other things you need to change. And love your vids and your chins are SO CUTE!!!!

    is it normal for your chinchilla to nibble your fingers just, whenever? and sometimes in the morning, he barks at me (grumpily) this is a question so i can bond with my baby more

    • @scor.iv.
      @scor.iv. 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Leann M I suggest watching the chinchilla notebook. She is much more informed and gives great tips on how to bond with your chin. Also it is normal for them to nibble as long as they aren't biting you. He may be barking at you because he might just want to be left alone but I am not an expert. Just trying to help.

      I wouldn’t just because they’re hindgut fermenters and that could cause a blockage. I’d stick to things like wood chew toys and hay toys.

    I just want to point out to anyone considering getting a chinchilla that there are a few things wrong here, I can provide anyone with a scientific explanation of these tips as well:)
    1) absolutely no plastic in the cage, plastic ledges need to be covered with non-pill fleece
    2) no fruits or veggies whatsoever, including raisins! Way too much sugar and can be detrimental to your chin either immediately or in the long run
    3) chinchillas cant live in temps above 75 degrees even with a chinchiller, it stresses them out and will kill them. Chinchillers should be for an emergency only.
    4) they should only be eating timothy hay, alfalfa as a treat
    5) that spinner wheel thing is not safe, wheels are not necessar but if you get one they should be larger than 15” and NOT plastic.
    6) NO hay balls, will cause injuries
    7) the only safe bedding is pine shavings and non-pill fleece
    8) none of those hammocks are safe, they are the wrong material and if they ingest it they can die
    9) cardboard is absolutely NOT safe for them to chew on for soooo many reasons
    If anyone has any questions I will be happy to answer them. I have been raising chinchillas for 8 years now. My instagram is @ brerayman feel free to dm me!
    (This is not to hate on anyone, this is just some helpful info to give your chins or future chins their best life and make them as happy as possible!)

    Hay balls are really dangerous for chinchillas because they can get limbs stuck inside or strangle themselves... They can die from those types of things. It's also somewhat dangerous to have hay racks inside the cage, as well. ;)
