I like the idea of a low wattage heater and after reading some reviews on vehicle use, ordered a 500 Watt heater instead. Used it in a below freezing trip and my cabin was sufficiently warm. I placed it on a thermostat and found that even at 500W, it can't heat up pass a certain temp (72F if I recall). My guess is that the insulation of my jeep's cabin was cooling my cabin faster than the 500W heater can heat past that desired temp. Regardless, i was sufficient cozy with a sleeping bag. I like the 500W as the heat that came out of it was nice and toasty and I've sufficient lithium/solar to run it and thermistat to prevent 'overheating' the cabin's desired temps. Btw, evwn at 500 watts, it was never too hot such that I fear it would burn something when tipped over. And I ran this for over 24 hours once to test. I can't imagine how useful a tip over off trigger would be for a 150/170W heater.
Despite some of the knucklehead comments by people who probably need a few reminders that their keyboard balls aren't real, as always love the video. Miss Joelle and Chester as I am sure you do as well. Being reminded of how great it is just to get out there in the outdoors, being one with great views and crisp air, and how anyone can do it is a good thing. Good man my Canadian brother.
Completely agree! Some of my favourite videos to watch- fantastic content and also a great guy. Such a shame that some people feel the need to criticise others on the internet for absolutely no reason. Glad Adam doesn't let it get to him, as unfortunately it is par for the course and shouldn't influence such great content.
Some people just miss the point. Testing the little heater was a good idea using the power supply. He might have had better heat retention by using windows insulation. Good thing about the electric heater was no need for a CO detector. I actually found the meal prep and related details informative. Surprised by the raw celery rather than cooked in the butter sauce. The fish substitutes was worthwhile to consider. I like lobster but the price is a bit steep. And, I think our national govt - US - put restrictions on harvesting So, just for the halibut, I’ll have to cuddle up to cod. Thanks for the ideas, Adam PS if you had brought Chester, you wouldn’t need the heater. But, then you wouldn’t have slept in 😊
Interesting to see how well a 170 watt heater would work. I was surprised that it only raised to temperature to 6C when it was 0C outside. I use a 350 watt digital ceramic heater in my Prius, which is powered by my Prius through an DC to AC inverter. That pretty much keeps it 20C or 69F all night in the car even when down to 0C/32F outside (I haven't tested it lower recently). I like the digital feature because it prevents it getting too warm inside when at higher outside temperatures, since it will turn on and off automatically.
Great vid with some good info...sometimes you learn more from a fail than a success. As a guy sharing his house with 3 rescued/rehomed labs I felt so bad for Chester...I would have been looking for an excuse to bring him along...gorgeous, gorgeous hound. Anyway, I own two similar heaters and after watching this and other vids I think I am going to pack one on similar trips but relegate it to emergency use. I am currently leaning much more toward a warming pad, insulated windows, and my furry friends for winter warmth. I would take the nastier and cockier commenters here with a grain of salt. They are improving your TH-cam engagement, and keeping warm outdoors is WAY more complicated than most of them realize. For example, I'm a life-long resident of the Northeast US, with a ton of outdoor experience, but the most hypothermic I've ever been was on a remote river in Southwest Texas in May. The story is too long to recount here, but keywords are sunburnt legs, rain, and one key piece of raingear that went missing...I think a garbage bag might have saved me from an expensive airlift that trip. Anyway, thanks from a new subscriber.
Hi Adam we do the same poor man's lobster here in Cape Breton ,boil it the way you do but I only use melted butter and sprinkle it with smoked paprika .and yes haddock or cod or any textured white fish will work,Great video once again ,say hi to the misses from us😊
There’s a salt water fish called Monkfish that I’ve always known as poor mans lobster. In my experience, it’s readily available at most grocery stores on the US east coast. It may be available other places too 🤷♂️
Maybe, blocking off the front of the vehicle would warm up the back a bit more. I used to use a small heater about that size bed side in my bedroom in the winter to conserve energy. I'd heat up the room to a decent temp with a larger space heater. Usually took 15 minutes. Then shut it off then let the bedside mini heater heat the rest of the night. It would do ok. That and a thick quilt kept me comfortable. It would take a long time for that mini heater to heat up a living area.. if it can at all, really.
Was the heater set on high though? It should’ve been warmer than that. Best to have hooked up to a timer, set on high. I have the heater, for camping purposes too. I tested it out in my room, and I actually get pretty hot and have to turn it off. Anyway, enjoy the journey 👍👍
Great drone shots. Man that first follow shot was livin' dangerous, lol. Just missed that limb. But when you don't hit anything, I'd call that flawless execution. 👍🏼👍🏼 love the ever so slight push-ins on the compositions. I kept waiting for a more in depth analysis of whether or not the little heater was effective at all, but I guess what I'll take away from this video is that you survived. 😉
That camp box is a very cool setup. I'm a van lifer going into my third year of living as a nomad. Watching You Tubers like yourself helps me acquire great ideas for my van conversion. I moved my man cave into my van, GMC Savana 2500 cargo vehicle. Ideas like your camp box will help in better utilization of space. Your country is absolutely beautiful. I use a Mr. Heater Buddy when necessary. It actually produces too much heat. I found a smaller heater called the Covea Cupid Heater, which uses the canister shaped like a paint can. I heat up my sleeping area half before an hour before bedtime, then turn it off. I'm a new subscriber and will look forward to your adventures. I love the burbot recipe! Happy New Year!
170 Watts will not keep you warm. You don't have to go camping, just plug in a 175 W bulb and turn it on. You are going to freeze. Save your money and buy a cot, a heated sleeping bag and enjoy
Hi , Adam , as always I gotta say thank you for another outstanding video. You camping in the car with that small space heater sounds like a good idea , at least you won't freeze. Also , I'm from America 🇺🇸 NYC and if we've gotten 2 inches of snow it was to much . I don't know if Canada is getting the affect of the global warming but last year was unbelievably to hot in the summer . Temperature's haven't gotten lower than 15 degrees this winter and that was only 3 times this year. So we're in trouble believe it or not !!! Take care . Thanks again. 💯😇🙏🏻👍 Btw this is my first time I haven't seen you and your girlfriend together camping . But that's life sometimes 😉💯👍
Use a buddy heater. You could have slept in your underwear. If you want to use electric use an electric blanket. Works way better than an electric heater.
I have the same unit for my van. Not enough, Unless you have 2000watt or higher battery packs. I use a hot water bottle in my sleeping bag, then when I am wake start the van for 10 mins. 5 mins in cooking show, 10min in advertising and 2 minutes in heater testing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Could you link this model of heater?
Pls link bro
Heatwise it would be much smarter if you use some thermal window covers and a 60W heated underbed. This is a lot better setup in my opinion.
Opinions are like assh*les, everyone has one. 😂

You should look into the Jet Boil twin burner, Very compact and light weight.

I noticed the lack of window condensation, that is very important to me,
How does your water not freeze?
Can ừ put the space heater inside the sleeping bag?
All the camera angles are awesome. How do you get them?
Just wondering why your water wasn't frozen in the morning if it was 6 degrees inside car and 1 degree outside.
Celsius
@AdamStew LOL that makes a huge difference!
Can you give me the product name of the heater?
Have you ever tried a hair dryer they do pump out a lot of heat

Nice food. To be honest just upgrade your sleeping bag and put a hot water bottle in it and you'd be warmer than using that little fan heater
Where the hot water come from ?
I have a similar heater and it’s just enough to keep my feet warm under my desk lol savage
