i love that jack was honest about hating argylle, i can understand why youtubers feel awkward saying they didnt like smth when the creator's gave them smth for free but at the end of the day your audience cares about that kinda honesty and trust creators more who will admit if smth wasnt up their ally.

It's January, Jack, you're not supposed to have anything to show for it. It's simply a "survival" month. You made it to February, Congratulations! x

I think you might enjoy "where do you come from" by Sasa stanisic, an acclaimed German author whose family fled from Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. The novel (especially the ending) has some experimental writing that readers seem to either love or hate ;)
    Here's the blurb:
Saša Stanišić's Where You Come From is a novel about a village where only thirteen people remain, a country that no longer exists, a shattered family that is his own. Blending autofiction, fable, and choose-your-own-adventure, Stanišić explores a family's escape during the conflict in Yugoslavia, and the years that followed as they built a life in Germany. He examines what it means to learn a new language, to find new friends and new jobs, to build an identity between countries and cultures.

Jack Edwards, if you haven't yet, you should look up some José Saramago literature, he is the only portuguese author to have ever earned a Nobel Prize in Literature, and his writing is something really interesting, because it so characteristic (you'll understand this the very second you open up one of his books) - this could also be a segway to make a video all about nobel prize winners?

Begging you to read “Betty” by Tiffany Mcdaniels (I literally comment on all your platforms soz) it’s just so heartbreaking and amazing. It’s about a girl, Betty and her family as they grow up as Cherokee in America. It is gut wrenching, devastating and one of the best books I have ever read. It’s based on the authors mother which adds even more hurt!

Hard agree on hating Argylle. I felt like it was such a bait and switch and then it wasn’t good. I am convinced they made up so many gimmicks to sell the movie - the book, spreading the rumour Taylor Swift wrote it (through a pointless inclusion of a scottish fold cat to stoke the fire). I was actually annoyed after seeing it and felt i had wasted my time. Don’t sell me Henry Cavill and then take him away.

The whole Argylle thing was a big dumb gimmick that didn't work because nobody cared. The film was announced as an adaptation of this unreleased spy novel, and it was supposed to garner lots of attention and have people guessing who Elly Conway really was, and act as free promotion or whatever, but as I said, nobody gave a flying fupp, bar for a week or so where unhinged Swifties thought she had written it.
Long story short, Terry Hayes and Tammy Cohen were revealed to be the names behind the book and it was confirmed that it was done for the film.

Everything is so short and contentless. Just showing books and a two-sentence review on Goodreads. There are no in-depth explorations of topics anymore, you're just mentioning if you've found them "good" or "bad" by the end of the year. Claiming you're a "book critic" implies a little bit more commitment when it comes to reviewing books and really digging deeper into them, analyzing them, communicating your ideas about them in an academic way and starting a conversation. I don't see where or when this ever happens, or at least not enough to label yourself an actual critic. You're just flashing books in front of a camera, reading the blurb, and that's where it often ends, or at least for 75% of the books you show in hauls (on both main and second channel), but never ended up actually talking about. The ones you do talk about are the Uber-famous TikTok books that are being reviewed by literally everyone.
