First attempt at drilling a 1/4 hole in a thin sheet of plexi for a PC case mod and it sheared off the corners.
After watching this video I went to Home Depot and picked up a step drill and as easier, if not easier, than what is shown in the video. Finished the entire project in about 10 - 15 minutes.
This is great advice for people who are first starting out with plexiglass modifications.

I tried this on very thin plexiglass on my adjustable Black and Decker workmate table. Not only did it work great but left a beautiful smooth hole! 5 Stars for the fantastic tip. Thank You.

sir i can't thank you enough. The step drill works great! Fast and clean holes. Time saver also! Previous method with smaller to larger bits took me hours of effort b&Decker recharging and unsatisfactory results ...

Use a thin coating of dish soap which will help the cutting hence less possibly of cracking.

Another great video! I cracked a button hole on the last hole of a Street Fighter 2 CP and I know how frustrating it can be.(I also heard from a guy who said to drill the holes using reverse speed on the drill which did seem to help) Time to go searching for a step bit to add to the arcade tool box. Can't wait for the video on troubleshooting a game playing blind. Thanks for all you do!

Great tip!! Going to be drilling a piece of plexiglass in a few places to use it as a makeshift windshield/screen for a go kart. I have a bit like this and hopefully it will do the trick !

Thanks for the tip. My method is to drill the holes in the control panel with a forstner bit, then sandwich the plexi between some scrap wood and the control panel to drill the pilot holes, then clamp the plexi to the top of the control panel and use a router with a laminate bit to enlarge the hole in the plexi. It seems to work okay and now cracks (yet!) Tim's method seems to be much more efficient!

Good video. Have you ever tried using woodworkers brad point bits? I work in a sign shop and have to put 1/4 inch holes close to the corners of six 22 inch by 60 inch by 1/4 inch thick pieces of acrylic. I was going to try practicing with them. I think I'll find a step drill instead.

Layout location of hole, put on the tape and then use same method to layout hole on the tape. Tape and protective film increases surface tension to prevent cracking.

I would love to see a tutorial on how to build a control top from scratch. I have an old "Super High Impact Football" cabinet (4 joystick, 4 buttons), and I would love to redo the top to be a MAME cabinet (2 joysticks, 14 buttons). But I have no idea how.

I have much thicker plexi glass. It's 1/2 inch. Thick & heavy. I doubt it will chip & crack like thin plexi, but I need tips on drilling screws into it. Thanks!
