Fishing The Forgotten Dam For Giant Largemouth Bass | Hartbeespoort Dam

  • For years Hartbeespoort dam has been un fishable due to the over growth of Hyacinth. This is the reason why it has been difficult to fish for years.
Hartbeespoort dam is the dam that has been forgotten about because it's over growth of Hyacinth. The coverage has made the dam impossible to launch a bass boat due to the launches closing up and use not being able to put the boat back on the trailer.
This forgotten dam has been quiet for years up untill just recently where it has been discovered to only have 1% hyacinth coverage. This means it's open for business and use bass fishermen can now enjoy Hartbeespoort dam for what it really can offer.
RTHFishing sent me a message telling me that Hartbeespoort dam is fishing really well and that the bass are that you catch are kg1 on average. This sparked my interest since I haven't had a day in winter where I caught multiple bass over kg1. So RTHFishing and myself decided we would take the hour drive to the forgotten dam.
Since it is winter, bass fishing is mostly slow and the bass are never really in the mood to eat anything during the course of the day. As we all know as bass anglers this is the season where you fishing slow and try and keep your lure in the water as long as possible. For me this a difficult task since I like to fish really fast and cover as much water as possible to get as many bass in the boat.
Hartbeespoort dam didn't set up to fish fast as I like it. So i really slowed down my presentation and took my time to retrieve the lure back to the boat. Fishing slow in winter is a key element to your success in catching more bass.
For RTHFishing and myself this meant fishing texas rigs, drop shot's, free rigs and even weightless plastics. All these styles of fishing had to be retrieved slow so that you could annoy the bass long enough so they would bite.
Hartbeespoort dam wasn't as fired up as it had been a week or two before but I still managed to catch 4 largemouth bass. One of those bass I caught was kg2,15 and it was caught on a Berkley Maxscent Flat Nose Jerk Shad. I fished the flat nose jerk shad as a weightless texas and this was a great way to get those bass to bite.
I'm really happy that Hartbeespoort dam is open for bass fishing again. This dam is really close to Johannesburg and it is a great way to get your bass fishing in for the day.

Hi Sasha. I live next to Harties and fish every day. Massive Bass in the right places. Love my spot. Quiet in the winter though. Sensations Maxi Trap gave me plenty of fish bigger than 4 and 5kg. February is best time to catch the logs. Like ur channel. Be safe

Hey dude! Based on my own experience, it seems fishing for bass during the winter is only possible if you own a boat and you're able to go deep (harties isn't that deep though, average 13 meters if I remember right) And I saw you slay the bass at Rietvlei early morning during the winter. I don't know why I'm not getting any bass. It must be because I haven't fished in twenty years since my dad passed away. I'll keep trying, though. I'm still learning, and I have a lot of catching up to do in terms of how water clarity and temp affect the fish here in SA. Anyway, thanks for the great content. Hope you'll consider bass bay and maybe we'll run into each other and you'll give me some advice. Peace bro✌️

Hey bro, I own a kickboat & Ive caught some big fish during this season so far. Big dams & small dams. You can get a cheap second hand motor for your kickboat & go exactly where they go.

Whats up man. Sorry to hear about your dad. Fishing from the bank is just as good as fishing from a boat. The only difference is that bass will be bigger in dams then what they are in ponds. Bass most hand around the deepest part of the ponds in winter, This is mostly going to be the dam wall side, if it has a dam wall. Fishing slow is key in winter to get those bass to bit. Well don't give up just keep fishing and your luck will change the more you fish.

I remember when I started fishing. I really wanted to get off the bank so I could explore more water and also get to those really fishy spots that bank anglers couldn't. So I also got myself a kick boat and just started there. It's a really cheap way to get off the bank.

    Hey Sascha
I have had a ok winter season so far only two big fish so far one 1 kg and another 1.2kg but it has been hard and slow.....
What would you say is lekker winter baits you can use from the bank ?
I have just been struggling the last few days ....

    • @BassingwithSascha
      @BassingwithSascha  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Thats not bad for winter, congrats dude. Um........A good winter lure? I have a few that come to mind. A Jig is a really good one, stick bait, drop shot bait, ned rig, neko rig, underspin if the fish are chasing bait, Jerkbait is a really good one and your standard texas rig baits. I think bottom contact lure are going to be your best bet
