  • Loskop Dam is known world wide for having the best quality bass and the biggest in South Africa. So in this video I go out to catch some Loskop Giants!
This video was shot on the 3rd November 2023 till the 5th November 2023. I got invited by Nunes Bassin / @nunesbassing11 for the weekend to have some fun.
The bass fishing is always the most important thing on a weekend like this but the accommodation is another important part of the fishing trip. We stayed at a resort called Forever Resort.

This accommodation is neat and tidy and it will suit your families needs or if you just wanna have a good time at Loskop Dam.
Day one was combined with the drive to the best dam in south africa (Loskop dam) and some fishing. The fishing in the afternoon was slow for me. Over the that year I have found myself fishing shallow vegetation. This style of bass fishing has become my preferred way to catch bass. loskop dam is really deep and has very little vegetation in the shallow water. The banks are mainly rocky and this is good for cranking, jerkbaits, dragging baits and obviously finesse. The open water bass fishing doesn't really suit my fishing style and this pushed me out of my confort zone to fish deeper structures. Finesse presentation and presentations you can keep in an area for a long period of time are key to catching bass at loskop dam. After awhile of bass fishing I caught my first bass on a chatterbait which I threw shallow and started retrieving. Second bass was on a drop shot which was on deep off shore cover.
Day 2 was a combination of 2 sessions on morning session and one afternoon session. The morning session was tough but the afternnon session was alot better for me since the bass where biting on the drop rig. Finesse fishing is a key element to catching bass at loskop dam. I am sure bass can be caught on other applications but this work the best for me.
Day 3 was a short morning session with Nunes Bassin'. He joined me to shout a review on my Triton TR 176 for his Fish My Boat series. Go check out his channel for that video to come out.
Loskop dam is a very special dam and I think it might be the prettiest dam out in South Africa. So if you want to be out in the South African Nature and catch Giant bass the Loskop Dam is the one to come to.

That cloud cover and calm water surface called for you to try a BIG frog coloured or white lucky 13 ,devils horse in black n white or a wopper plopper. We hammered bass on oliphants river below the Loskop wall with these lures. Clusters of rocks sticking out of water, points near deep water and grass are good places to try. When you are near the rocks cast past ,let it lay till 10 then pull real hard downwards to get the L13 to explode and make a big line of bubbles through the water then stop, wait 3 secs then explode it into a continuous FAST retrieve back . Sometimes my son gets 3 or 4 goood big bass around rock clusters !

Never say its a catfish/ barbel until you actually see the fish youve hooked. I made this lacksy mistake one day assuming i had a barbel on until one of the biggest bass ive hooked did a tail dance and spat the lure right out 2 metres from the boat. I couldnt get the fish up and all of us eventually said ...its a barbel.... it changed tactics by bolting from deep straight up and my line went slack so fast there was no time to reel it up.
