It was in the 50s when Elvis was so wild with the movements, this is 1968, much later, in the 50s nobody had seen moves like he did before, so it shocked them xx

Hi Twano! It’s a lot for someone in 2024 to keep straight! Yes, Elvis was a lit canon in the fifties. One must understand what the social norms looked like when he started his career. If anyone wants to go down a rabbit hole, there is a channel called Scotty Moore (which was one of Elvis’ first band mates. Scotty Moore first offers history of the various cities and venues where they first played. Always interesting if you are a history buff but if not you merely scroll down until mention of Elvis appearance is part of the buildings history. Print is always small but articles are provided that describe what an early Elvis Presley concert is like. Journalist were never kind to Elvis and yet they were awed by the sheer magnetism of someone that could send girls jumping from balconies, fighting to break through police lines or just fainting in the isles. That was the Elvis of the late fifties. He broke records, social barriers and women’s hearts.

The outfit is a leather jacket and leather pants. not a jumpsuit. It was so hot under the lights of the camera that Elvis sweat profusely wearing it making it very uncomfortable for him but you'd never guess it by his performances. There's only one 1968 Comeback Special; 1970 was That's The Way It Is; 1972 was Elvis On Tour documentary; 1973 was the Aloha From Hawaii Satellite show.

They were no longer objecting to the way Elvis moved in 1968. Lots of other performers were singing rock and dancing by then. He was 33 yrs old and in the middle of his career. The next year he started performing in Vegas and he began touring again. He was only controversial during his pre Army years 1955-1958. In 1955, his Sun records were only heard in the Deep South but he was doing the Louisiana Hayride and causing the girls to scream and the police had to attend to keep watch.

Watch Blue Suede Shoes , the same performance. A real rock star!
When he's walking around kissing the girls, he's in Vegas, not the Comeback Special. The white jumpsuits are from Vegas, also. Watch "Polk Salad Annie" or "Suspicious Minds" and you'll see some of the sexy Elvis movements. So great!!

Oh, this was nothing compared to his early stuff, which is what the documentary was referring to. Here’s a live tv performance but to Hound Dog on the Milton Berle Show in 1956 that the peeps in the documentary were upset with. This is the performance that almost got him banned from tv. Eventually, his live performances were shot from the waist up. His actual concerts were much wilder than this even. This, to me, was when Elvis was at his best. For real, the vice squad recorded one of his concert performances to make sure he behaved himself. He’s the one that revolutionized stage performance. There’s only one 68 comeback special, btw, and not shot in Vegas or Hawaii.

You definitely need to see the whole 1968 comeback special. They taped two shows. It was edited and some songs were not included in the original version on TV.. the first 1/2 of the show was on the square platform. He was very much at ease. He was jamming and having fun. You get to see him close up and his true personal shining through. The second 1/2 of the show was staged and very theatrical. The closing song is if I can Dream in the white suit. There is a stand up version of If I Can Dream in the black leather suit. The square platform is on display at Graceland and the suits he wore for that that concert. His music playing in the background. I wasn’t at the concert but I looking at that stage I could imagine being there.

I think you're mixing up a lot of performances. There was only one '68 Come Back Special. (It wasn't the 68th Come Back Special) The number 68 refers to the year 1968. Elvis had been gone for a couple years in the Army. He got out in 1960. As I recall, from 1960 to 1968, he didn't do any live shows. He was busy making a bunch of really low budget, silly movies, and recorded tons of sound track albums for those movies. And he recorded two gospel albums (and won a Grammy for one of them). But not live performances until 1968. His popularity had taken a bit of a down turn especially with the Beatles and the so-called "British Invasion". So the 1868 Come Back Special was his opportunity to show the world that he wasn't just a "has been" rock-n-roll singer and he was still a dynamic performer who deserved to be recognized as such. It was called a "Come Back" because he'd been away from live public performances for such a long time. Now he was "coming back". And he was very nervous about doing it. That's why, in one of the opening performances of the '68 Come Back Special you can hear him say, "Been a long time, Jack. Been a long time." Most people who don't know the background that I've just laid out for you don't understand what he's talking about when he says it's been a long time. He's referring to having been away from performing before live audiences for so many years. Anyway, that's the general gist of the whole thing. Now when you do get around to watching the entire '68 Come Back Special you'll know what's going on.
And, if you really want to get the whole picture of the Elvis Presley phenomenon from its beginning to its tragic end, rent the 2022 Baz Luhrmann biopic called "ELVIS". You'll be transported back to the 1950s and get to witness how it all started. I guarantee it'll be an energetic, entertaining educational experience that you'll never forget.
