My fridge wasn't getting cold on gas and this video helped me, many thanks. If its any help to anyone else looking here - I didn't take the fridge out, I found I could access the burner from the bottom plastic vent on the outside. The cap jet would not come out even with vigorous tapping but they can be bought online for about £15 if you think its blocked. The whole burner assembly including the ignitor and flame sensor costs about £50. Make sure the gas, mains electricity and 12v are all off before you start and If you want to wake up in the morning make sure you have a blue flame not a yellow one and get a carbon monoxide sensor / alarm.
Ace. The 12v red switch had become reluctant to turn on. I tried pulling the panel out, 2 screws, but didn't want to move. I've read people have prised the switch out, but then found wires too short. My fridge has the 4 securing screws on the inside covered with white plastic buttons. I had taken those out and tried pulling but it didn't want to move. Watched your vid and decided to give it another go and on closer inspection I saw the side edges of mine had been clear siliconed! No wonder it wouldn't move. Cut the silicon with a Stanley blade and tried pulling again and it shifted. Bit of switch cleaner on all switches and spray 3 in 1 on the thermostat and gas switch which had got stiff and all is great now. 30 mins max job time. Thanks.
No gas working on mine so watched this video and started to take it out after a bit of mucking about I got it out, as my fridge is in my t4 vw camper so it was nearly the same cleaned the jet and then gave it a right good clean and the rest of the fridge also and now its back in working order great and ready for Europe .Thanks to youtube and the Caravan channel and it saved me a lot of money
thanks for this, I'm confident enough to have a go myself now and see if I can get my 32 year old van fridge to light on gas - is ok on 240v. Fingers crossed !
I'm the very proud owner of a Lunar Clubman and I absolutely love it 1998 model and she's a peach. I'll definitely never get rid of her. This video is really ready helpful as I'm currently servicing my fridge
So difficult to get any help from Dometic but this solved my problem of ignition - quite a bit of dirt in the jet chamber at 3.38. Thanks very much Lee and the caravan channel.Any comments on - the metal electrode which makes the spark seemed hardly to protrude at all from its ceramic casing - does this burn away gradually like a car spark plug ?
Its always useful to know how your appliances work, however really a specialist should be used if you at all unsure of what you are doing as it is a gas appliance.
It was clearly stated at the beginning of the video that it is for demonstration only and some steps have been omitted. Anyone that has owned a 3 way fridge knows that the gas system gets clogged up over time. If you are not comfortable with doing his job yourself or do not have the right tools (including leak detector) then pay a professional to do it. It is the same principal as doing things at home apart from the gas. You are allowed to work on your own camper/caravan gas system provided you don't hire it out.
Great video , I've got a dometic RM7291L, my problem is that when using hook up, the fridge green light will illuminate for the 240, and will start to cool, after a few hours the green 240 light will go dim but still slightly lit and fridge will stop cooling, if left like that for a few hours, the fridge will start working again, green light will be full lit and start cooling again, this cycle keeps happening, 12v won't work when towing, tried gas the orange light just keeps flashing, please help its our new van , thanks
you forgot to say at start "for fux before you go near the frigging fridge, disconnect the battery, make sure mains also physically disconnected and the gas bottle is also physically disconnected" ..marge?
Hello, was wandering if you could help me please. I have the RM4200 pretty much the same as in the video but my fridge is the other way around. Just bought a new "Main Element" 105w thinking this will cure the problem that I am having and that the fridge only works off gas. I cannot get the fridge to work off 12 volt battery or 240 volt. Checked all fuses and none the wiser. Just wandering if the switches go west as I don't get any light on the green off on switch?
Hi There great tutorial. I am stuck trying to get the Fridge out as there are no screws on the face of the fridge and I can't see where it is secured in ??? The fridge is an Electrolux RM212. There are 4 Bungs on the inside of the fridge that look like they are holding the fridge but they don't come out.
Andrew Byrne this might be a bit late but..... The four bungs are covers for the fixing screws. May need a little persuasion to remove them. I can service the burner unit on my fridge through the lower external vent which saves time and a lot of hassle. Even managed to do it in the dark in the middle of field. Safe trip
Hope this will work for me ! I have read all the comments and I think a little common sense would be used by people attempting this ! Thanks for the vid guys 👍🏼
Really helpful but most of it was in darkness. Can you do it again with some light on the fridge....I need to change my element so if you do another one showing that I will subscribe....thank you...
So when are fridges serviced to this extent? No way on the annual service that's money for nothing. Have to service it to keep the warranty even though it may of only moved a couple of hundred miles in a year, it,s hardly moved, what's to service? Surely we base the service on miles covered as we do with cars, not on time whether it's stood still or not?
Hi we have electronic ignitor and the red light is not coming on for the gas, and whilst driving the other red light is not. Is this to do with the ignitor box behind the electric ignitor button? as i have ebayed the unit and it is £65, any cheaper options? many thanks
2.25 Once disconnected from the gas if I were to put a new fridge in and not need the gas to be disconnected do I need to switch it off anywhere or by not connecting it is it off?
That stray earth wire was probably for the sink! The metal sink needs to be earthed because of all the electric wires and connections under it. Water and lekky don't mix.
You are not legally obliged to have work on your own caravan done by a GSR installer, you can do it yourself. However as others have said you do need to know how to work a screwdriver and a spanner, and the parts missing from this video really are important - disconnect battery and mains first, turn off the gas. These are blooming obvious, but if you are looking at TH-cam for instructions you might not be that competent. He missed out the very important fact that having removed the burner you need to push a small diameter wire bottle brush up and down inside the burner tube. There is a lot of rust dust in there - you can see it in the video but he doesn't mention it. This is what causes the gas jet to get blocked so it's no use leaving the rust there to block the jet again. When finished and before refitting the fridge you need to check for gas leaks. Turn on the gas supply and you can use soapy water, but the proper stuff - gas leak detector - is far superior and you can get it from any plumbers merchant, you don't have to be registered or anything.

Well presented, essential concise information and no waffle. Thanks mate exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks Lee and Roulotte Services. My 23 yr old Electrolux RM275 is now working on gas again. Much obliged; saved me £s.

Thanks for educating others on RV refrigeration.
I followed this tutorial , all soot came out of flue and bottom burner assembly .
Reassembled and it fired up first time 👍🎉
excellent I now understand my fridge much better and managed to solve a few problems. Thanks
Good video and no messing. I like all this guys stuff. Usual comments from pedants and other trying to protect their trades .

YIKES 😬 brilliant video but I think I'll pay a pro to do this. Thanks

Adjustable spanners!
Use the right size spanner!
An adjustable will be the right size when it's adjusted!
very good video on how to remove a fridge thanks chapps
thank you so much!
To replace the thermocouple to the burner? Would I need to remove the fridge fully? Or just get it so far out to hook the new coupling up?
I found this video really useful thank you so much
Thank you, really helpful, I am happy to try this myself now, much appreciated.
why put the burner back before youve cleaned the flue?
you forgot to say at start "for fux before you go near the frigging fridge, disconnect the battery, make sure mains also physically disconnected and the gas bottle is also physically disconnected" ..marge?

Very interesting. Many thanks. 👍🏻👊🏻
If the flue is blocked would it cause a strong fume smell when running on gas

I need that man in my life, lol.

Thanks , helpful.👍
Thanks for that. You are a genius of legendary status. Top top man.. This is not for clueless plums who sit on their hands when not at work..
Question? My fridge is loose in cavity, and cannot find how to secure it again
Exellent
Step 1. Disconnect 12v, 240v and gas.
Dude did you not even brush the flue threw???? Lol
Oh and soundness testing??? Dangerous video
***** or isolate the electrical supplies..... List goes on.
There is a warning at the start of the video regarding some parts of the process being left out. And of course the power was isolated.
👏🏻👍brillian cheers

unless it's a water heater or a kettle
My caravan fridge is coked up how to clean it
Wat is the name and what is the function of the twisted metal on 4:21?
if it only works on gas and 240v but not 12v....what's the problem, domestic RMS8551
The 12v heater element has probably burned out - this happened twice on my Dometic fridge. Half an hour to swap it over. Costs around £25 off ebay.
ok cleaver what is it when your gas lights burns blue no yellow ,, but dose not cool
Top video guys - saved me a few hundred quid and you were right, just needed a blow out!!
Maybe I need a blow out too.
good video but i think ill leave it to an expert im scared of gas
my jet wont pop out of the housing..is there a knack in getting the fucker out ??
Sir complete cycle vedio send me
That’s disgusting
I follow your vedio but my field is hvacr
Is it OK for a newbie or dumbass to be fecking around with gas in a caravan?
Surely all work on gas appliances should only be done by Gas Safe registered installers?

Na its easy.
