    Just a tip. I wouldn’t stack the wood inside the house. Tons of creepy crawly bugs will love the heat coming from the warm house and come alive and now you got more problems. Burned wood for 23 years. Always stack outside and when wood brought in instantly throw in fireplace.

    Wattage and amperage listed on power station is the constant run capabilities not start up surges get a higher rated power station

    Starting current is much higher than running current. What you're experiencing is very common with running any motor with a generator or inverter.
    Here's what your User Manual says:
    USE PROPER ELECTRICAL SUPPLY.
    This unit uses a large amount of current, especially during start-up. Connect this unit only to a dedicated 20A circuit with no additional loads (running devices) connected to it. For best results, use the outlet that is nearest to the circuit breaker panel.

    Electric motors of this type have a huge inrush of current when starting. The wattage given is the running wattage not the starting wattage. The power company electricity will supply this inrush but portable power stations usually won’t.

    They pull 15 amps when running. They can pull over double that upon startup to get it running.

    First time you get a chance, build a table for the splitter 28" tall. It will make your work a lot less back breaking. works just fine, just too low to the ground.

    Jimbow. I think the same way yall do. Didn’t want a gas motor to maintain.
    Ended up with a 8 horsepower electric from northern tools. Was 499. And works great.
    We had an old DR Splitter that worked great for 19 years but the cylinder went out on it.

  • @mjc1389
    @mjc1389 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    If you happen to have one of those clip on ammeters you can measure the start current that it takes to “kick off” the motor on the log splitter.
    The motor itself should have 2 different ratings on it, one for start and the other for run.
    You can check to make sure the starting draw is in spec to make sure the unit is operating properly and also to size your portable power station correctly.
    I’ve even seen people Jerry-rig those soft start capacitors for AC units onto other things to get around this problem with using alternative power sources but that would probably void your warranty…lol.

    With you both being welders a heavy duty splitter needs to be on your radar for the pto on your tractor.

  • @pamnchip
    @pamnchip ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    That's not a bad light duty log splitter. It looks light weight and portable so it's pretty easy to haul around. Your calculations are pretty close but with any electric motor you have to figure the start up load which is much greater than the running load. I don't think your power station is geared for that kind of load but try a gasoline generator. I have an electric chain saw that does the same thing to a power station but works great on a gasoline generator because the gas generator is rated for surge watts which is basically what a start up load is. Thanks for the video and review. Stay warm, y'all and merry Christmas.

    Hey y'all! So glad y'all got one of those electric log splitter. I bought one about 8 years ago. I love mine. I split wood for so long I think it was time. Still works great! That was funny y'all put a picture of fire in the fireplace! So I get my wood from a buddy,but I help him with my splitter so he also has wood for his wood stove. Jim like your singing,lol. On that splitter make sure the tree is dry,cause it won't cut wet.Love the animals,music!

    Still loving how the fireplace came out! I had a similar log splitter and had the same power issue. Definitely needed a 20amp circuit with a quality and SHORT 20amp extension cord. Since we do a few cords per year, I reverted back to our loud, gas guzzling Champion. Just works every time and plenty of firewood makes for a happy, and warm, house!

    Hey Jim , curious about that splitter, would it be possible to run an adapter from the vehicle to the power station and then to the splitter to give it more juice to run it?? As a backup source.
    Also, Jim, I surprised that you really can sing or least carry a tune. 😀👍👍
