We are Truly Blessed having u here on TH-cam. Having someone that knows what they're doing and is Good at explaining what is going on and how to diagnose problems we find. Thanks Man. You're Truly APPRECIATED
Good one, Martin! I'd probably add a paper filter and shutoff to that one to avoid the issue of smalls getting into the carb again. I know many people say paper filters don't work on gravity feed systems, but I also know enough pro's who disagree and have no problem with them. I suspect it's usually water in the fuel which blocks the paper and that's on the end user, not the filter itself. My 2 cents! ;-) The other possible workaround which I've never seen anyone mention is making sure if, the fuel supply is causing issues, to top off the tank and see if that changes anything (in the case of a paper filter which is supposedly causing a fuel feed issue). Having more fuel in the tank would definitely increase the pressure at the filter. Just a thought.
What's not to like? I learned three new things from your video today. I purchased a set of straight, curved, and different-sized surgical forceps from Harbor Freight. They make working with hoses much easier. Since I have plenty of space on the right side of my zero-turn riding mower, I added some gauges: Amps, Volts, Oil temperature, and Oil pressure. Doing this is a great DIY project.
Man, I can't thank you enough for your help. It got me through some jams. In my opinion the kohler rock but my cub cadet has a kawasaki and it's stood up great so far. Thanks for all you do ill be sure to keep watching.
At 1:22 when you showed the timer for the second time I suspected it wasn’t the magneto or fuel tank vent, but an obstruction either in the fuel tank outlet or the line. It seems to me that either one of the other potential causes would have occurred much earlier.
Carb main jet O rings are available under a Kawasaki part number and fits most all of that kind of jet inserts . I don't think Niki lists them without the jet . You can buy them by the bag full and just clean the jet and replace the O ring .
They actually come with the kit on this one (didn't realize until after doing the video) I appreciate the heads up, I have some of them from the Kohler part number somewhere here but pretty pricey. You don't happen to have one around you could get the part number for do you? Kawasaki usually has quite a bit better prices on that type of stuff
Another highly informative video, thank you martin. Personally, I won't buy an engine if it has a nikki carburetor on it. I wish Walbro Specifically designed and made replacement carburetors for nikkis. I think they'd sell at least a million of them... Take care.👍👍👍
I appreciate that! Definitely agree there! I do the conversion quite often from the Nikki to the Walbro but it involves a little different process of soldering then drilling the main jet to match the original size unless they match up
I thought about that debris around the top of the engine and at first I thought it might be a loose oil fill cap. Then at the end of the video you mentioned a loose oil filter. Not seeing the same debris lower on the engine or even on the filter itself leads me to think that the actual reason is simply operator carelessness when adding oil. Spilling all over the top when adding oil and not cleaning it off well (as in using brake cleaner or similar to really get it off completely) seems like a much more likely scenario to me. I guess we'll never really know! ;-)
The oil filter was definitely loose even after hand tightening before first start. The drain at the bottom ended up being loose also, like many of them are, which I think caused the lower pooling. Seems this engine is already presenting with many of the same issues the Courage did. The vibration is crazy
I have an adapter hose that I attach to my small wet/dry vac and it get's all that debris out of there. Lots of owners hate cleaning their machines. I spend an hour just washing them before I even begin taking things apart.
Fuel shut offs definitely come in handy. We normally ask customers if they want one installed and will actually use it but surprisingly most say either no or they won't use it anyway so we don't install nearly as many as I would like to
The whole engine vibrates pretty bad I would check the bolts holding the enclosure plate on top just under the shroud. The Courage had this issue often
Another fine video thanks for the information. I notice you use some OEM named parts, can you recommend a good distributor for my small repair business for OEM parts?
I would recommend using Power Distributors, Medart Engine and Oscar Wilson for the best OEM parts selection (at least in my area). We also use Rotary for aftermarket parts and Kimball Midwest for supplies. Many times when using distributors if you look online even on Amazon you can find a better deal for Briggs & Stratton parts or engines because of the volume discount they get
Have you ever had an issue with the plastic nipple breaking off the bottom of those tanks? I’ve had one or two snap off on older tanks. I do like the ones that utilizes the rubber grommet. At least the tank isn’t destroyed and the grommet and fitting can be replaced.
Is the 5400 just the updated Courage? If so what did they modify other than making darn sure those top bolts don't come loose causing the block to crack.
It sure is! The head is completely different style so I think those pesky valve cover gaskets will be a thing of the past but only time will tell if those top bolts come loose like on the courage

I really appreciate your kind word of support! Makes it all worth doing!

That’s a great suggestion! I have to agree about the water in fuel, it happens way too often but otherwise no issues with a paper filter
Your videos calm me down. Love your teachings.
Same here
I appreciate that!
Glad to hear!

I am so glad to help!!
Good evening
Hey there!
Thank You I had the same Issue with My Yanmar 146D. Mine was the fuel cap was not venting. Good Information
I appreciate that! Glad to help all I can!

Definitely the norm. I had a John Deere coil last an hour and a half on a Kawasaki recently but normally much earlier
Great video mate
Thank you!

That’s a great idea! I do see a lot of people who just don’t like cleaning their machines
Do you recommend a fuel shut off?

I would have reconfigured those fuel lines long one first then the filter for easy access.
They seem to be in the way of the hood on this model engine if you out them along the side but 3 or 4 inches further would have probably helped some
I have the Kohler 5400. It has this quite load rattle that seems to be coming from flywheel area. Have you seen that problem
The whole engine vibrates pretty bad I would check the bolts holding the enclosure plate on top just under the shroud. The Courage had this issue often

I sure have seen this before! Normally we just use a Vari bit and install the elbow and grommet like the AYP style
Fuel shut off solenoid there expensive just did one on my brothers 110 John Deere 80 bucks lol even the parts guy was wow!!
Yeah, it is crazy what they cost!!

why the tinted safety glasses, just curious lol
Lol actually just sunglasses my eyes hate the sun so I use them most times I go outside and many times when I need sunglasses also
As dirty and dusty it is it looks like he let's his kids drive it on a baseball infield.
I see them like this so often you would be super suprised!
