Thanks for this. I've tried to read about fuzzies a million times but it never seems to stick. This made it a lot easier to understand.
Fuzzy guard in Virtua Fighter was the goat! You block, slam left and right a bit to break stagger, then do a miniduck to escape a grab. Best game ever.
Goddamnit, it's always something with snapback lol. I kinda wish we could influence when to come back after snap(kinda like what you do after knockdown) so at least there's a chance to screw up the timing.
Uhhhhhh, I'm pretty sure that's the wrong definition for fuzzy. At least in 2d fighting games, Fuzzy guard is referring to how you deal with oki setups, where you input crouching guard first before standing guard in order to deal with the oppoonent's oki setups because in general mid attacks are slower. Reverse fuzzy is when you do the opposite because the opponent is trying to do an oki setup in the air (hence mid's are faster than lows). Fuzzy Jumps are a way to deal with throw Oki's, where you input standing guard first and jump right after. The technique you are mentioning here is not called a fuzzy but its called F Shiki/Kamone or Fuzzy Overhead (which is technically wrong, because it has nothing to do with Fuzzy, but whatever), and IS NOT called a fuzzy (which implies its a fuzzy guard). The overhead part is really important to distinguish the two
@jmcrofts can you do an updated season 2 tier list? Hook gang did one and put your boy krillin at the very bottom.. well, besides 17. I’m trying to put a team I like together before I try the game competitively and I’d like your thoughts or maybe your endorsement of his tier list so I can better choose my team.
Lord Infamous think about crouch blocking doing 2 separate things. 1- making your character crouch (smaller hitbox) and 2- telling the game you can now block lows but not highs. Now because of block stun these two processes can get “”desynced””. Thus you can’t crouch yet to reduce your hitbox but the attacks you can block has already changed.
@@chJohnJobs lol what? "mind games" definitely will not keep fuzzies at bay. and everybody knows how to block it, but you have to guess because it's a 50/50.
@@aaronbenno1849 Actually if you can condition your opponent, Or if they try and fuzzy to much then its extremely easy to punish. @@jmcrofts in what way is the fact that you are forcing them to stand cause them to get hit by the overhead? I realize they get hit because they are holding down back, but is it simply that blocking the attack forces you to stand which makes you tall enough to be hit by a jumping normal? And thus the reason it doesn't work on shorties is because even standing they are too short to get hit by instant overheads? This doesn't apply to IAD though. IAD into an attack is not considered an instant overhead though?
Yes it is because when you block an air normal, you are forced to stand for a few frames, which makes you tall enough to be hit by instant overheads. IAD isn't considered an instant overhead because it is reactable.
Can someone help me out with blocking inputs what im doing wrong cause on some games im holding back to block without smashing and somehow i still get hit like i wasn't even blocking
Kinda hard to explain but if you are playing on pad, holding back and leaning it towards up will make your charcter jump without actually pressing up on the dpad

I can’t believe it took people this long to notice this, it’s such bs but people are okay with getting hit with out actually getting hit. Too many laggy mashers get away with this and button mashers in general. Honestly needs to be fixed. This game gets boring when people use this busted mix up. Isn't there a gap between landing and jumping that the blocker can reflect or do an invincible move?
no it is a tight blockstring

Wait, do you still run into the bug if you set the dummy to block all and crouch? Cuz it could be due to the block first setting.
I’m still confused on why they get hit even though they’re still standing.
The game doesn't check your character positioning to decide wether you've blocked or not, it depends solely on your inputs.

most mechanics in fighting games started out as bugs

I felt like this was a thing for a while because I love Broly and Cooler but I swear blocking overheads with them takes lol
fuzzies have been around for over a decade in fighting games.
This confused me. Do you not block overheads by standing? Why does having the dummy stand up make it so you can hit them with an overhead?
even though the character model is standing, the opponent is holding down-back, so they still get opened up by overheads
@@jmcrofts in what way is the fact that you are forcing them to stand cause them to get hit by the overhead?
