    Thank you for putting this up for the world to see. Great fun, for you to play and for us to hear. You have quite the talent if you picked those up by ear and wrote them down.

      Thanks Steve. The mic I'm using is an MXL990 that I've had for years. It's an inexpensive microphone but quite good. I hear they can be modified to even better, but I don't know much about that stuff. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for your note too!

    I was discussing with my sax teacher today that when you buy the music books for sax they transcribe the vocal parts, not the actual sax parts, and it’s so annoying! This is the kind of stuff I really want to learn, thanks for the video 😊❤👍🎷

    • @seanhully
      @seanhully  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, many of the books only give the basic melody of the songs, and often the keys are different to make them even easier. Transcriptions of rock sax solos are hard to find. I'm happy to know you found this useful.

      Thanks I appreciate it. I use a Super Action 80 Series II with a Guardala mouthpiece and a Winslow ligature. I can't identify the exact model of mouthpiece at this time, but it's one of the handmade ones.

    Hello Sean, Thank sfor putting these up. My background was in classical and big band jazz, so learning to do the 50's genre rock riffs is a constant challenge. You are very restrained in this clip, and use very few notes.. highly repetitive... which I guess is intentional, and maybe repeats exactly how the original was recorded. If there was a primer to how to play 50's rock style, I'd like to hear, read it. I looked everywhere for a CD set called "greatest 50's sax solos" but your clip is the closest I came. Again, thanks. Id be interested to hear what you have to say about playing the style that is appropriate to this music.

    • @seanhully
      @seanhully  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ej, all of the solos are direct transcriptions from the original recordings. If you'd like them just let me know, and I'll send them to you by email. You can also find them on my website to download. When you're learning this style, it's best to play along with the recordings and absorb the nuances. Eventually, you may get comfortable with the style. I recommend listening to King Curtis and Jr. Walker as an introduction to this style. You're the second person asking about a 50's sax solo book so it's on my mind to put one together if there is enough interest.

      @@seanhully I hope there's been other interest from others and I'm not only the third person interesting in a 50's rock n roll book?
      I grew up listening to guys like Little Richard whose featured music had a lot of sax solos, this is the genre I aspire to play.
      (P.s. Loved your rendition of Yakkety Yak, another one of my favourites!)

      @@vincentvega9863 Hi Vincent, thanks for reminding me about the rock & roll sax book. I've been focusing on getting back to live playing and working on my teaching studio for the fall, as well as domestic stuff, so my videos have taken a back seat for a while. I hope to get caught up on things and get back to a place of regularity so I have more time. Thanks for the compliment too. I love playing Yakety Yak because it's so fun.
