- Whereas the illegalities in Chungking Mansions are widely known, the wondrousness of the place is not. This was how a famous anthropologist described Chungking Mansions, and perfectly sums up this building, if I may say. Chungking Mansions is a building located at Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. It features guesthouses, curry restaurants, African bistros, clothing shops, sari stores, and foreign exchange offices and a lot more. Chungking Mansions rose to fame after being the backdrop of the 1994 Wong Kar-wai movie, Chunking Express. While it is celebrated as a melting pot of cultures, the building is also mired due to some recorded criminal activities and the deteriorating quality of the building facilities. Nonetheless, this building has so much to offer and will continue to be the heart of TST. Join me in this video as we explore this labyrinth of multicultural diversity and get a sense of why this place earns its reputation today.

For my walking tour of Tsim Sha Tsui (TST):
• Hong Kong's Most Famou...
People often name other cities in China as well as Tokyo, Japan as "cyberpunk cities" but Hong Kong is the original "cyberpunk" city. Cyberpunk aesthetic is based heavily on Hong Kong, like the old vs new, the narrow walkways, the neon signs, the multiethnic people, the seedy nature, the tall apartment buildings and so on. I feel Chungking Mansions is very representative of that multiethnic, seedy and old vs new aesthetic that is common in Cyberpunk as is the whole of Hong Kong. It's a very interesting and unique city and watching this video makes me miss it.
agree! Hong Kong is OG cyberpunk, even more so when the neon lights were all over the place. Now its slowly being "sanitised" but its cyberpunk vibes are still imprinted in some areas.
Thank you so much for this! Now I know how to go to the elevator and where to eat 😁
you're welcome hehe
The location of Chungking Mansion is good! There are many guesthouses/hostels inside. The room prices are usually quite low (You pay what you get). Sometimes people are scared to stay at Chungking Mansion. However, some business people run other youth hostels with dorms and so-called private rooms inside other mansions (e.g. in Wanchai (on Hong Kong Island), Jordan and Yau Ma Tei are much more horrible (terrible facilities shared by many people) and expensive.
interesting, thanks for sharing. But yes, Chungking mansion location is so prime!
Good video thanks - helped me orientate myself for a trip in April for getting to the Indian restaurants on the first floor.
my pleasure! Yes, Chungking mansions have the some of the best and authentic Indian restaurants
This is great someone sent me over here from Spanions videos.
I literally just watched his video about Chungking mansion just now 😳
I just stayed at Chungking Mansion for 4 nights the other week. It's not as dirty or malicious as it sounds.
I bought some bread at the grocery store on the first floor and ate it, and it was a great experience.
Also, the basement was surprisingly modern and futuristic.
From Tokyo Japan.
thanks for the insight! great food indeed. Looking to try the basement restaurants soon :)

Do you have a recommended restaurant or cafe near Changking Mansion? I'll visit Hong Kong soon and stay in this area. However, my arrival time will be at night. Since I am a solo traveler, I do not have more time to explore the area on my first day, so I'm looking for a good place in Chungking Mansion where I can dine and relax before I head to my hotel. Thank you.
Hello. Generally there are a lot of options within the area to dine and relax when you arrive. You can try the restaurants within chungking mansions, most of which close quite late like 10 or 11pm. You can also try Isquare mall (across chungking mansions) or K11 art mall (near exit N1/N2). There are also numerous cafe shops within the area like startbucks, urban coffee roaster ect. I suggest you walk around the area to see where you want to stay. Goodluck! 😊
nice wave you got near the end lol
what wave? haha
Super chungking
