Was there a year or two before the Brits handed it over. What an incredible place. My brother and I stayed at one of those places on one of the upper floors after we crowded on the tiny tiny elevator. The police raided the hostel next to us that night for prostitution. Lots of excitement. There was a lot of bamboo 0:10 scaffolding on the place at that time if there was a fire we could climb out the window and somehow survive. We paid $17.50 a night for a clean AC room with a tiny bathroom and shower. Best deal in Hong Kong. Thank you for your enjoyable video. I'm older than you and still remember it well. Even with the golden footprints in Hong Kong for the tourists we managed to get lost. Lost in Time...
Used to go there for curry, up flights of stairs from memory, into a room with just table and chairs, had to shut your eyes on the way in and wipe your feet on the way out but the food was really good! Also used to frequent Delaneys and Ned Kellys whenever we came over from the island, lol!
CM has always been legendary. I lived in Hong Kong for three years in the 1990s before the handover.. There were some great pop up restaurants in CM. I later lived in both India, Bangladesh and Nepal. Great vlog.
Wandered those same halls from the mid 90s for the next 25 years during every visit to HK. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. And many a night in De!aneys , Kangaroo Pub and Ned Kellys.
There's a book about this place called Ghetto at the Center of the World by Gordon Mathews. This video is great because it gives some visual context to the stories in the book.
The location of Chungking Mansion is good! There are many guesthouses/hostels inside. The room prices are usually quite low (You pay what you get). Sometimes people are scared to stay at Chungking Mansion. However, some business people run other youth hostels with dorms and so-called private rooms inside other mansions (e.g. in Wanchai (on Hong Kong Island), Jordan and Yau Ma Tei are much more horrible (terrible facilities shared by many people) and expensive.
Hi there, How are you? If you do not mind me sharing; a well-planned, organic and unrefined plant-based diet (consuming edible raw plant foods where possible so as not to denature enzymatic activities beneficial to the human system. If disagreeing on this matter, please try planting some steamed carrots and see if they will grow; if they fail to, it is because they are 'dead' plant food that cannot fully nourish one's 'living' cells) consisting of organic fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains is the best diet to provide mankind with ultimate health and longevity. These foods, fresh and grown in rich soil, are found all the essential vitamins, calcium, carbohydrates, fats, fibre, minerals, protein and water needed to make good blood and enjoy health. Please avoid meat alternatives that contain harmful preservatives and additives e.g vinegar, a corrosive agent. Food toxicity and nutrient deficiency (e.g white bread, white rice and white sugar) are a deadly combination as one is hindering the body's building materials needed to action healing whilst at the same time taxing the system with more damaging toxic things, thus bringing about disease and possibly even an early death.
