Looking forward to the quilt reveal. And im thinking a nod to using Nancy Zieman's name alone would bring in new subscribers 😉 Seeing the picture of a dress you made for someone you dont know is so so special for ones ❤
Way to go for it with the mash-up, Izzy! 💪🏻 Looking forward to seeing your finished quilt! Well-deserved response to your Pivot and Slide vid! 🤩 Obviously, it is a huge need in the sewing community! Would love to see the garments you’ll be wearing in Greece! How precious is the dress you made for that sweet girl! 💗
Thanks so much Andra! It was so amazing to see the response to the video and realize so many people have the same fitting issues I have. Sewing for yourself can be a very lonely hobby at times and it’s easy to think we’re the only ones who have problems or need to make adjustments. Xx 💞
Hi Izzy! After watching Rachael from Frenchseams show her beautiful quilt as you go squares, i knew it was something I wanted to try. And then I realized you had vlogs teaching how to make the quilt. I am so excited to give this a try. I've only made quilts the old way, using a template, and sewing everything by hand. I have so many scraps that will make a fun quilt. I need to pick up a few supplies and then get started. I'm also going to recommend your vlogs to a friend. We had talked about looking for quilting classes, but, understandably, the quilt store only wants the student to use their fabrics. Add in travel time for me, and it's getting quite expensive. I think following your tutorials is going to be perfect for us. Thanks so much!
Love the top hope you can get to work for you can't wait to come on the journey with you in the mean time I'll continue to practice the Nancy method gave a great week😊😊😊
Awesome response to your Nancy Zieman video, well done and looking forward to seeing more about that. 👏🏼 Yep, I'm with you on the cotton fabric garments, they never want to be next to me and that's why we love fabrics that drape ❤ The Chambray garment is looking amazing and will be perfect as a layering piece on holiday. What fantastic pieces of fabric you have chosen for the dresses. Like you I've had to be ahead of the game this year 😂 Have a great weekend and fingers crossed you can get to the island ❤ 🚣🏻.
Yes, give me all the viscoses and all the drape!! The Patina blouse I’m wearing in the video is made from a viscose crepe and although it was a bit more challenging to sew, I absolutely love wearing that blouse. I need to find more of these different “variations” of viscoses. And I don’t mind making winter garments from it because I love to wear layers. I really hope I can get all my PDAG dresses done before I leave and into the mail. Next year, I’m going to start making them right after the holidays and make maybe 2 every month so I have like 15 of them to send in early September!! Xx 💞 P.S. I’m typing this while sitting outside in the breeze at the island 🏝️
@@dizzyquiltsandsews yep I said that too about the Dresses after last year and look where I was this week, sewing like a manic 🤣 Yay, you got to the island! Don't wear out that costume before your trip 🤣🏊🏻♂️💕xx
I really like your mashup top! I’d just recut the front to were you like it. The Vernon you are working on will be a wardrobe staple, especially for your trip. I would love to participate, not this September but in the future for Project Dress a Girl. That photo of a little girl wearing your dress is so special!
Thank you Donna! I’m so excited about the Vernon. I managed to get the sleeves on last night and so I’ll sew on the collar and buttonband on Sunday after I get home from the birthday party.
I so enjoyed participating in Dress a Girl last year, and will be participating again this year. Last year I made 8 dresses for 6-8 year old girls, this year I have already made 12 dresses and plan to make at least 4 more. Like you I wanted older girls to feel special as well, so I have made 4 dresses for 12 year olds and a couple for 10 year olds. Such a great project to be a part of!
You’ve made so many dresses - you’re amazing! I’ve been telling myself all week that I really need to plan better for next year and make one or two every month so I have a nice pile of them come September. I’m excited about sewing at least a few before I leave in September.
@@dizzyquiltsandsews I knew that I would be moving sometime in 2024 (which I did in early May) so I got busy early in the year making them so I would have a stock in case the move was around September. While our house was up for sale I had a lot of my sewing stuff in storage, so I am glad that I got ahead of it this year
I did my first mashup of two patterns in the fall. I used the love notions LaBella Donna top with the skirt from the Tessa. I liked it so much that I did it again last week. I have started my first ever dress a girl dress this week - I picked up some cute cotton prints at a yard sale last year and am using the peasant dress pattern Mari shared during so frugal. Have a great week!
Did you do the cowl neck on the LaBella Donna? I really should re-visit that pattern because I loved the top I made from it eons ago now. I’m planning on picking my pattern for Project Dress a Girl this week so I’m going to check Mari’s video. Thank you!
Love the mashup top fabric and I hope you can get it to work for you. Exciting that you tried it! The chambray shirt is coming along beautifully! Can't believe September is close since August just started 😆! I love the PDAG fabrics!!! It is not frivolous at all for a girl to get a new dress in the middle of a difficult situation - we all need distractions, excitement (like when a Think Pink box comes) and most of all, knowing that we are cared about, we are not forgotten, the world is not all horrible, sad and scary, more good than bad even if the current times are not good. Receiving a gift is also an impetus to become a giver oneself later when able. "They" are repaving nearby streets and the work is done at night so not to interrupt traffic - my husband woke up at 3 a.m. due to backup beeps, jackhammering, heavy equipment grading the street, front end loaders carrying the debris away...we put the AC back on even despite good weather!
You are so right about new dresses sometimes being just the thing you need to remind you the world isn’t all bad. I love that you said that!! How strange that they would do road work in the middle of the night!? Your poor hubby 😞
@@dizzyquiltsandsews It's a very busy street and it doesn't impact people and tie up traffic as much when they do road work at night, and summer is a good time to do it - "poor hubby" went to Los Angeles for work, so he got away from it for a few days, unlike me when he's snoring and wakes me up 😆! Anyway, it's not the worst thing and not forever 😊 and we'll have a nice, smooth street for all the accidents that happen at the corner of our block from ppl speeding!
Hi Izzy, your mashup top turned out great, love the fabric 👏. I think you can just cut the front a little bit to where you are comfortable with. We are all having fun sewing the PDG dresses, and I hope it will surpass last year’s numbers 🙌🏻🙌🏻.
Yes, it definitely is! I’ve been having some really busy and difficult weeks at work, so it’s nice when the personal stuff is nice and easy and quiet. Xx
Hi Izzy. You commented on a video I saw recently that you had fullness in the chest over your bust. You probably addressed this ages ago but just in case here is a solution. I watch Joy Bernhardt who makes this adjustment all the time ( for example in the old video Bodice Fit Corrections, Front & Back). Basically she makes a cut from the apex ( not the end of the dart but the apex) midway through the neckline. Then, leaving a hinge at the apex, she makes a cut from the apex through the bust dart. She overlaps the neckline pieces as needed to get rid of fullness which makes the dart slight larger. She then redraws and smooths the neckline. So the neckline fullness is moved into the dart. Thanks for your vlogs - I really enjoy them.
Well Izzy get the tissues ready because I saw a picture of your other dress just dont have it yet. But i will send it to you as soon i receive it. Thank you for participating in pdag this year. I am really looking forward to it.
I love the Mashup fabric but wonder if you just flatten the curve a bit on the front hem you might like it more. That would reduce the length and make it less dramatic so the focus moves to the sleeves and v neckline. If you really like it tucked in, be careful not to remove too much length so it stays put when tucked. Your video on the pivot and slide method was excellent and I have already watched Nancy's video beginning to end and shared my thoughts with my sister who has taken up sewing. 🤞 Marianne's dress fitting is straightforward so you don't need to fuss too much while prepping for your holiday. I was thinking of you as Debby tracked through. Initially we were supposed to get some of it and I rushed my drive home from Toronto to beat the rain... it never materialized. You guys got it full on. Your swingy shell top is very pretty, cool and comfortable for travel. A winner!
Hi Nancy! I’ll definitely try to make the top more wearable. I really hope the dress for Marianne goes well because I’m not in the mood to sew something super complicated 😂 Debby was so much more than I thought it would be! We almost never lose power where I live and I had a freezer full of meat I was freaking out over potentially having to cook and eat all at once! Thank goodness everything was still frozen when the power came back on!!
I think if you were to add simple bust darts to your top patterns when using a more structured fabric then it would skim your body better below the bust. I think Cashmerette patterns always have bust darts, like the Vernon shirt. Enjoy your trip to Greece!!
Your pivot and slide video sparked my brain to try it. I stumbled at the point where I needed to lower the bust point after enlarging the bust area using Nancy"s instructions. If you have tried this, please share. I am not positive if the sleeves needed any adjustment, when you enlarge the bust as well as the back, and need to lower the dart. It got a little confusing. Maybe someone can post more about it. I enjoy your channel.
Hmmm… I haven’t tried using this method with a darted bodice but I definitely plan to. Maybe someone else here has experience with this? Thank you so much for watching!!
The combo of the 2 patterns worked well. For some reason the front was longer. Can you just reduce the curve, and re-hem. I think that would change the over all look. As far as your tops at the top standing away maybe they are just too large. The Zieman fitting at the neck line makes such a difference. Look forward to those future videos on fitting. Every pattern is just so different and fitting is always a challenge. I do need a sewing buddy for fitting especially the back. My husband helps but sometimes but he just does not always get it. How do you do it? Does the dress form help? Love the Chambray it is beautiful, one of my favorite fabrics. You have accomplished so much!
Yeah I’ll definitely need to do something about the hem… The top doesn’t feel too large which is the weird thing. I really have a hard time fitting the back too. My hubby can help with hemming, but has no clue what to do if I ask him to pinch and pin fabric. 😂 The dress form isn’t exactly my size, but I want to fix that at some point when I have a little bit of time (maybe during my Christmas vacation).
I like the mash up but it’s interesting that the front ended up so much longer. It’s almost like the Seychelles front has more surface area than the rhapsody front has? If that makes sense? It would be interesting to see the front pattern pieces laid over each other.
It really is strange. The front did look longer, but I assumed it was like that because it needed to go over the bust. I'll definitely have a look at the pattern pieces and see if I can spot the issue.
I love your mashup top. It may work better in a different fabric. The fabric you’re going to use for PDAG is so beautiful. What pattern did you use last year? The red dress was perfect. ❤
If it stays away, maybe e it is the fabric. Maybe you can wash it again to soften it. Peggy Sagers softens denim with a can of Coca-Cola! in the washing machine. Check with her (Silhouette Patterns). The top looks good on you, indeed too long in the front, maybe shorter, and with vertical darts even so narrow, it will have a nice shape. The rounded bottom may be fashionable, but it requires proportions adapted to one's body, not necessarily the length and shape of the pattern. Joy Bernhardt makes a lot of tops both in knits and in quilt cottons.
I would love to see a video of your Greece capsule with all of your pieces styled together!
It’s already on the schedule!! As soon as I finish my Vernon, I can film all the outfits and share later this month. 😊
