    PRO TIP: You can literally just cancel every free trial that exists within seconds of signing up for your free trial because you’re actually just canceling the subscription That starts after the trial. It’s a pretty foolproof way to never get charged for a free trial you forget about.

      @@anthonycameronnajera8471 My pro tip wasn’t how to get never-ending free subscriptions, but rather how to not accidentally end up paying for subscriptions you forgot to cancel. Since the entire business model of subscriptions is in large part based on people forgetting to cancel their free trials and subsequently paying the monthly fee until they realize they’re (still) paying for it.
      It’s a foolproof way Boyd been on the hook for some thing you just signed up for to see what it was or any other free trial you use to can access to a particular thing, with no intention of ever actually signing up. (like having to sign up for Paramount+ just to watch March madness or another streamer just to binge a specific show)

      BEST PRO TIP: Quit wasting your time screwing around with "free trials" to watch live sports and just buy cable....and if your tight on money.....quit buying Starbucks coffee and overpriced take-out food/door dash.

      Samson is solid. Not taking away from him.
      But plenty are doing good stuff with this coverage (Curtis/ringer, DEUTSCH, traina, sports media watch), biz insider, karp & hall
      When Dan said "no one covers it better", it's likely because he legitimately DOES NOT EVEN REALIZE that not only do many others exist...but many do in fact do it better than Samson/meadowlark.

    Real news! Brilliantly presented. Edgar Bronfman Jr. deserves a special class star as the epitome of a capitalist wanker. After inheriting Seagrams he killed the company in a little over a decade. He then bought and lost control of the MCA/Universal Group in five years. He was a pioneer in seeing a $14 billion a year music industry in the USA shrink by more than 75% in the first decade of the 21st century. He then ran a downsized Warner Music group before selling out to Access Holdings (a private equity giant controlled by Leonard Blavatnik) for $3 billion in 2012. Quite a talent. Thanks for the great content!!

    I'm so glad I stuck with cable, I have a relative doing TH-cam TV and all the movie channels at 155, I pay 200 for all of that plus the fastest internet package. These streaming companies plan to capture all the live sports and then raise the prices.

    0:54 while I no longer qualify for most streaming "free trials", because I signed up when there were sales - I have my calendar marked with my cancellation dates (last Thanksgiving they had Disney for $1 a month, when added to Hulu - which I had to renew anyway. And I got WB for $3 per month. Sad it all ends in two months).

    I would argue Disney wasn't really "forced" to sell what became Bally Sports because some reported suggested that Disney offered that option to the DOJ. They only had one meeting. Wonder how they would've been if Fox kept/repurchased the RSNs?

    Well the problem nowadays is the incessant rent-seeking by everyone shaking each other down for the temporary rights to a product that doesn't actually see growth, basically forcing a debt spiral. I mean the NBA cap jumping now because they were able to shake down NBC and Amazon, who are desperate for content and able to leverage for investment capital ie debt, is a hell of a lot different from the NBA cap jumping in the late 80s and early 90s because viewership was growing like 15% a year. These products don't actually bring in the revenue to cover their costs -- just like Samson was saying about the NBC-NBA deal. The debt load all of these companies are carrying now is insane and they can't stop because having a product is better than having none, but at the same time they'll never grow or inflate their way back to stability. It really is a house of cards and unlike the airlines the media is not integral to the world economy.

    • @sp123
      @sp123 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ironically the NBC let go of the NBA in the 2000s because ratings went down after Jordan retired

    • @gf4670
      @gf4670 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@sp123 Exactly. And the ratings did go down and never totally returned except for a few blips there in the 2010s especially 2016. And TBH the product there in the late 90s and early 00s did become hard to watch for the casual fan; I loved it but I can see why many people didn't and that's why the NBA changed the rules to speed the game up. And nowadays the games can be hard to watch as well; it's just not enjoyable basketball to watch and there aren't the megastar players in their primes anymore.
      But that's the thing, sports and entertainment is an elastic product. Other than the NFL there just isn't a big, reliable audience. And the only reason these deals are on the table is because of corporate access to debt right now as well as tax cuts and other financial shenanigans that puts more cash out there. But it ain't the market that's dictating it, and that's ultimately dangerous.

    • @sp123
      @sp123 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gf4670 Part of the problem is that other countries have caught up with America in sports. Americans don't want to watch a product being dominated by non-Americans. I predicted that the WNBA was going to grow because its the last major sport outside of the NFL that is mostly American.

    • @gf4670
      @gf4670 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sp123 Yeah I mean the WNBA is going to see some growth, but it's going to be limited -- it is an inferior product in terms of watchability if we're being honest. But there was definitely room to grow.
      But yeah, other countries have closed the gap on a lot of sports and entertainment in general. That's why Hollywood is also having trouble, especially in Asia. People would rather would movies about things they have in common with. And the same with sports. The domestic products are now beginning to matter a lot more, especially in the more nationalistic world we're living in now.

The only thing that has that kind of grip on consumers is live sports ! I would NEVER pay for regular cable again especially satellite
