Great video mate, that young blue hen is a beauty. Always good to take note of birds with exceptional feather quality, that is an outstanding trait and something that every great racer has 😉 Looking forward to seeing your loft visit videos.
We haven't paired up yet Des, so until birds settle and eggs are laid and young birds hatched, we won't make any assumptions or promises on which particular birds they'll be from. We also do things a little differently when it comes to stock bird management. Our stock birds all fly out, we keep no prisoners. Our distance stock cocks are typically paired to our Racing Hens, and our stock Hens are paired to our Racing cocks. This ensures that the race birds don't lose their partners during the season, and risk unsettling them when we're setting them up for the National races. Rest assured though, Dan will be getting birds from the best of our family. The Krauths, Bricoux and Ardens are all blended, we breed to type and performance not just strain. We're honored Dan has accepted the offer and hope we can help him establish a family to challenge and perform at Lerwick and the other Scottish Races. We raced north for several years before turning South to compete in the NFC and BICC.
@johncallaghan8854 great idea in hindsight racing cocks to stock hens and vice versa with the hens to the stock cocks. But you and youre father are very brave men letting you're stock fly out, I no health and mentally wise its great f0r them, but the way lads talk about hawks , eagles, peregrines etc etc these days, not in a million years could I ever allow any proven stock to fly out, my nerves would be gone lol. Sure once dan gets some birds off you lads that's the main ting and I'm delighted he took you up on you're very generous offer
@@desburke7786 I hear ya, but we prefer to let the birds fly out, they take their chances just like the racers do each week. We breed better pigeons, they have more vitality. If it lives in our lofts it flies out, no matter what. If you were to worry about hawks and peregrines and everything else, you wouldn't even race. Sadly predation is now part of the sport. Of course our predator population is not as dense as other areas of the country too, so that also makes a difference.
@johncallaghan8854 well once preditar numbers are low in you're area that's a big help definitely , sadly others are not as lucky by what I hear these days, when I raced was mostly sparrow hawks in my area and 1 pair of peregrines so I was allways lucky that way, race day there in the lap of the God's big time. Anyways John, best of luck with the breeding season and racing after that, look forward 2 seeing the baby's you give DAN, and if he videos you're lofts also be great, cheers des
I did that for some of the 2 year olds when they were yearlings. The rest I've left to choose their own mates. I don't have the results to use to pick pairings for most of them. I'm just trying to avoid siblings mating but all seems in order. Next year I might mix some up just for breeding.
Hi Dan I had to laugh so hard when the egg was on the floor 😜 are your sure it wasn‘t chickens 😉 I hope you have great season, your pigeons are looking good 👍 greetings from Germany Tom
Just a quick tip for next time, me and my dad like to start with extra light a week before we pair up the birds it helps with the pairing process bc they already are feeling like it’s time for it
😂😂😂 in knots laughing here DAN, wooow I can't believe it's taken me 2 years and I've got lights, I did mention it once or twice 😂😂, as for the wiring up and that pigeons don't have spirit levels and safety booklets lol. Them black krauths you're getting off John callaghan are pernounced kraots like feeding traughts for cows, try get some Jan Aardens aswell off him, there stunning looking birds and they can fly also. As for zoolander, what if you put him and a hen in a basket or small cage like aviary in you're shed and let the 2 of them pair up in piece, some times cocks take a certain dislike 2 another 1 and every time they see said cock even eat let alone try tread another hen they bash him, so he just gets down and stays alone f0r peace sake. Plenty of grit, minerals , and nest building material for them now. Probably best you float off you're best pairs 2 the others and let the best ones go d0wn again and eventually rear a round for themselves. enjoy DAN
Hello Dan, can you make a video about food? Is there pigeonfood for long-distance flights and for short flights? And the vitamines in the food is that important.
I really don't need a light. Paired up boxing day in Scotland. No issues good nesting boxes . Good food good nesting material and to know they are safe is all that's required.
@@howtotrainyourpigeon I just seen you had a trapper in with a cock you had two hens with none try put them together you could get some young birds love watching your channel I'm in Dublin Ireland if you could get some birds across to you Il have very good long distance birds we fly two channels of water
You have to turn on the light in the morning . Now you risk panic ven the light go out and you have birds sitting on the floor , if you g’et my meaning
Yeah it's just on in the morning now. There's an outside light that I was using so they could see to get down for a drink and back up, but a.m lighting only is safer
Thanks for all off your great videos...
No worries I enjoy making them!
