Exactly, to get rid of everything can be incredibly jarring I'd imagine (both for parents and kids... IDK). To keep some things I'm sure makes it feel more like home plus to not acknowledge, I feel, that they had a "past" aka were a family together before could make the children actually feel insecure, I can only imagine as a child trying to put myself in their shoes.
