You can see how connected they are -- David looks like his awkward self, knowing it's been too long since they have worked together, and Ronno is just in the center of it all: sweet, kind, lyrical. I do believe they deeply cared for one another. On the third pass, they have fallen back into their mutual language of sound. Beautiful.
Mick's contribution to Bowie's early success was huge. Tony Visconti has said that it was Mick who almost single handedly worked on the musical arrangements on Bowie's early album output. Mick was in the studio working several days before his untimely death in '93. Mick was not really credited (or paid) for much of his input during this period. He never lost his affection for David and loved working with him. Much missed!
711honved It was a normal relationship for a successful singer/lead guitarist. The worst thing would be to slag off the contribution of one in favour of another - they were gunslingers together. If Ronno never got his dues then maybe Mr Defries has a view on that
711honved I think it was more than that Ricovid. Ronson always praised Bowie for being a caring individual although It was documented that he was pretty pissed off at being dropped before the making of Diamond Dogs.
Martin Goodrich I read somewhere that Bowie considered Mick for the Diamonds dogs tour but he was working with Bob Dyla at the time. Not sure how accurate as I' still reading abd finding out things
mand b Not sure how this would work on timing. Bowie toured Diamond Dogs in 1974 but Dylan's Rolling Thunder Review didn't hit the road until the Fall of 1975. I would assume that Mick would have been available to tour. Ronson had already worked on many of the Diamond Dogs song arrangements and was familiar with the album.
Speaking as a singer, to have a guitarist of Ronno's quality would have given David an enormous amount of inspiration and energy. Ronno was the bedrock that Bowie launched his glittering career on, and Mick did the same with Bowie. They helped each other to achieve their dreams, and the quality of their work is apparent, even in this film
+Amy Carmichael - Oh man. I forgot for a moment that David is gone. For a second there, I didn't understand what you were saying. Enjoy the Cosmos David and Mick. Miss you.
Mick Ronson,s legacy is forever connected with Mr Bowie and vice versa....Mick wasn't just a guitarist he was a composer.. multi talented but multi unassuming to, the late great Randy Rhoads who very rarely cited few guitarists as an inspiration did frequently mentioned Mick as a musician and guitarist that made his chords sing, if you listen closely to Bowie's spiders era compositions the songs are very orchestrated...that's Mick's magic at work ....RIP Ronno
I grew up in Hull, my dad worked in a factory with Treveor Bolder but he was friends with Mick also and Woody as my Dad was friends with the Rats, awesome music history
As a kid I waited in line all night at Leeds University for tickets going on sale to see Spiders from Mars. Gig then cancelled so stayed out all night again to get tickets for Leeds Rollerina. Fantastic gig and seeing Mick and David was awesome. A couple of concerts later David broke the Spiders up, but I followed both around and must have seen David live half a dozen times. Mick always up there with Prince, Clapton, Bonamassa, Santana, SRV
canturgan Hey now, don't go dissing Bowie completely. In fact the record companies are more to blame, for Mick Ronson not getting a higher % of royalties. That's my humble opinion btw on this. I don't expect you to agree with me either.
+Phil Ghidinelli agree best stuff Bowie did was the early stuff with Mick Ronson, Nick Boulder and .woody ?woodman you aka Spiders from Mars .... Who arranged rocked up and improved the DBS work
+CAMASHTA4 - they also got together in Toronto, on the Serious Moonlight Tour. David said, "There's a friend of mine here tonight"...and Mick was suddenly on stage. He borrowed Earl Slick's guitar and played the hell out of it, and poor Earl was terrified he was going to destroy it! Mick spent quite a lot of time in Canada, working with different musicians.
Brilliant! I don't know where you got this but man did you score with this. I thought I had all the rare footage from this but you proved me wrong! Mick was sick with cancer during this recording. So this is extra special, he passed away shortly after, one has to wonder if he had lived on would he and Bowie done more together? I am shocked that I can't find any of the shows where Mick joined Bowie onstage over the years like in 1983 Serious Moonlight Tour etc. Thanks for sharing this!
I can answer that one, he's stolen this footage from me - a little credit would be cool, but hey, pricks like this just leech of those who put in the work.
I think a lot of people listening to this think it's bad sound or playing, but from stories Ian Hunter and others have said, Mick did this for his own amusement, sometimes sending them cursing out the studio!
Staring at 4:12, they talk about how much Morrissey's song sounds like "Rock and Roll Suicide": David (sings): You're wonderful.... Mick: I know that bit! David: I thought it was funny ... I thought, 'Oh, what do I do? Sue him or cover it'?
Watching this, you realise that Bowie must have had The Next Day and Blackstar sessions filmed. I suspect one day they'll appear. Bowie was a hoarder. He kept everything from his career. Not just the important stuff like costumes, but even receipts. It stands to reason he would have wanted his recording sessions recorded. He once told a fellow musician, "never throw anything away". Songs he wrote re-appeared years later with different lyrics.
Madeleine Hague He was a kind soul. If it wasn't reviving Tina Turner's career it was putting money in Iggy's pocket (tonight) and I'm sure you're right, he'd have helped out Mick if he'd needed it.
Mick and Suzi were living in a borrowed house at the end of Mick's life, and according to Suzi they were flat broke and it was only when Morrisey's cheque arrived that they could afford to put the heating on and eat what they wanted.
I know he only plays on I Feel Free, so why wasn't he used on this track? He actually produced Morriseys album from which this comes from, Your Arsenal.
I was thinking the same thing. Why wasn't he all over the Black Tie White Noise album? His contribution on I Feel Free is somewhat sparing and muted and its not a great version.
Sometimes this is how the solos get done, in bits. You can throw it all in until you get some good bits then try to repeat on the next take & so on. Get it over with quick & let the producer sort it all out. Sounds bad in parts but Mick knew he was doing some wrong bits. A bit painful to watch him suffering but interesting footage.
criminal even with ailing health bowie didn't use ronno on this..I mean who is wild t. springer..average clichéd..but bowie has been known to choose some awful people to play with throughout his career...erdal kizilcay..Peter Frampton...gabrels...I could go on...
Bowie during his low 90's trying in vain to inject some mid 70's Ronson rush in his boring stockbroker career ....Interesting footage without a doubt , but this hardly looked and sounded inspiring....Ofcourse Mick loved to work with Bowie again, but still had lingering not very warm feelings towards 'the dame', who out of the blue cut off their once so successful relationship...
Ronson sounds horrid. Not his usual tone at all. Pretty disgusting playing too. Must have been doing some hard shit. A shame cause his signature 70's sound was amazing. Looks like some pretty lame amps he's using in this studio.
AnalogOpher you obviously know nothing of recording so a won't get into why it sounds out of context here. but he was dying of liver cancer and was at later stages with it that's why he looks that way.
Mick's own guitar style is adorable and unforgotten.
You can see how connected they are -- David looks like his awkward self, knowing it's been too long since they have worked together, and Ronno is just in the center of it all: sweet, kind, lyrical. Frickin love David Bowie and Mick Ronson !!!! Rip to them both :( damn they were both so good!!
+Amy Carmichael - Oh man. I forgot for a moment that David is gone. For a second there, I didn't understand what you were saying. Enjoy the Cosmos David and Mick. Miss you.
lol, i forgot that too , and this coment were 1 year ago , wtf?????
Mick Ronson,s legacy is forever connected with Mr Bowie and vice versa....Mick wasn't just a guitarist he was a composer.. multi talented but multi unassuming to, the late great Randy Rhoads who very rarely cited few guitarists as an inspiration did frequently mentioned Mick as a musician and guitarist that made his chords sing, if you listen closely to Bowie's spiders era compositions the songs are very orchestrated...that's Mick's magic at work ....RIP Ronno
I really missed Mick on later Bowie albums but happy he played with Ian Hunter. Amazing guitarist, cool as they come.
I Love them both but I missed Mick Ronson and listen and always remember an era.
Mick lives in my heart forever .
Mick Ronson's guitar 🎸 sounds so RAW, I think he's just getting his sound 🔊 straight from thee amp 👍👍👍👍👍
I grew up in Hull, my dad worked in a factory with Treveor Bolder but he was friends with Mick also and Woody as my Dad was friends with the Rats, awesome music history
Great to see Ronno playing here , a REAL rock axeman .
Ronson here recording a performance with Bowie in the box. not afraid to take chances. love this approach to recording

Bowie hamming it up again. Ronson should have had 50% of royalties on a number of Bowie's hits, very distinct and musical hard edged guitarist.
canturgan Hey now, don't go dissing Bowie completely. In fact the record companies are more to blame, for Mick Ronson not getting a higher % of royalties. That's my humble opinion btw on this. I don't expect you to agree with me either.
canturgan You can't knock Bowie for that ! If not for DB there would have been greatly reduced careers for Ronson and MANY others
+Ricovid If not for Mick Ronson there would be no Bowie.
+Phil Ghidinelli agree best stuff Bowie did was the early stuff with Mick Ronson, Nick Boulder and .woody ?woodman you aka Spiders from Mars .... Who arranged rocked up and improved the DBS work
@@philghidinelli6162 Sorry, can't agree with that. Love Mick Ronson but Bowie would always have been a star.
my two favorite people together never to be repeated today's youth just don't have the passion or education it is all about instant gratification
The magic of days is finished - at least for now...
just play man who sold the world once a week sweet dreamer once a week nothing changes thank god they were here
thanks for the clip
Glad See Ronson PLAY HIS GUITAR!
Poor Mick looks a little weak. What a guitar player and what a really nice bloke.
Damned shame we lost both of them now.
Great blokes making great music. Vale Mick and David.
I miss them both were my idols RIP hope to see you after life here.
Sounds great ... really.
He's a kind of hero.
Mick Ronson to me is the best guitarist ever I never knew they got together before Mick died. But it warms my heart they did
+CAMASHTA4 - they also got together in Toronto, on the Serious Moonlight Tour. David said, "There's a friend of mine here tonight"...and Mick was suddenly on stage. CAMASHTA4 And David was involved in all of Mick's solo stuff too. The tabloids really talk a lot of bollocks and the public keeps the plate spinning.
David Bowie & Mick Ronson, two genius ~
Dragica Petrović exactenment !
Shame we had these 2 geniuses on film, and an engineer who didn't seem to know what he was doing
Mick's playing is so great on this...shame about the wobbly video tape gone bad sound and what's with the guy pressing that beeper?
Mike Ronson the sound of Bowie !!
Brilliant! I don't know where you got this but man did you score with this. I thought I had all the rare footage from this but you proved me wrong! Mick was sick with cancer during this recording. I can answer that one, he's stolen this footage from me - a little credit would be cool, but hey, pricks like this just leech of those who put in the work.
Or could it be that you both have Msrs Bowie and Ronson to thank for their undeniable genius
Mick's revenge with his earsplitting riffs....Bowie ducks for cover inside headset and can barely be heard. Most interesting interplay ever !
I think a lot of people listening to this think it's bad sound or playing, but from stories Ian Hunter and others have said, Mick did this for his own amusement, sometimes sending them cursing out the studio!
Did any one notice when David started laughing and then he snorted! That was so cute and funny!
Staring at 4:12, they talk about how much Morrissey's song sounds like "Rock and Roll Suicide":
David (sings): You're wonderful....
Mick: I know that bit!
David: I thought it was funny ... I thought, 'Oh, what do I do? Sue him or cover it'?
well it was Mick who wrote the arrangement for that song and he never got a credit!
very rare footage thanks u guys
Well done. Thank you.
“Because your BOTH Wonderful🎼

Great to hear this raw sound , it gotta be loud to get that feedback! Totally inspired!
I don't know if Mick needed help with medical expenses when he was fighting cancer, but I'm sure David would not have hesitated to help financially.
I really like to think that he helped.
Madeleine Hague He was a kind soul. If it wasn't reviving Tina Turner's career it was putting money in Iggy's pocket (tonight) and I'm sure you're right, he'd have helped out Mick if he'd needed it.

David Bowie was a lot of things, but most of all I think he was a great guy.
なんだろうねこの安心感は。
本当にこの2人の音は相性バッチリなんだと思う。
RIP RONNO ~~~~SHINE ON FOREVER
Awesome duo @ that time period... Ziggy Stardust & spiders from mars in my opinion was his best.
Sometimes you can't improve on perfection.
Rest in heavenly peace mick and David and the spiders from mars.
Nice to know that Bowie operated in a kind of organised chaos most of the time...makes me feel better about how I create LOL
so sad .You can see micks sharp breathing at some points in this.. he was so very ill.
Loved Ronno 🎼🇬🇧
that´s nice, thank you !!
I know he only plays on I Feel Free, so why wasn't he used on this track? He actually produced Morriseys album from which this comes from, Your Arsenal.

6:25 Bowie’s face here gives me life lol 🤣
Worst mistake ever....firing Ronno. But glad they played again.
Yes, his career was nothing after that 😅
Bowie is a genius
Its the poor quality of the camera microphone if anything. His playing sounds good to me.
❤️Ronno
and now you have reached him :(
those two should've worked more together.
yes

Greatest mistake Ziggy ever made was hiring David as his manager
Where did you get this footage from?
Is that mr Rogers in the beginning ??
because Mick wrote the riff and scored the music , its a parody
I think he was ill at the time?
what's gone happen?
Jesus he is loud.
What year is this?
+VEGASGIRL 1992
HEY - INSTEAD OF LEECHING HOW ABOUT A LITTLE CREDIT...
Colin Blades Sorry this fake Mick Ronson guy, stole this video off of you. Where did you get this footage btw?
+SarahNgakaariHammond .WoodRatGirl David Bowie.
criminal even with ailing health bowie didn't use ronno on this..I mean who is wild t. springer..average clichéd..but bowie has been known to choose some awful people to play with throughout his career...erdal kizilcay..Peter Frampton...gabrels...I could go on...
Unlistenable

AnalogOpher ummmm... the man was DYING of cancer when this was filmed. Not to mention the poor quality of the video camera and sound🙄😡
Not the usual tasteful Ronson for sure
