That looks pretty easy cleaning out a clean one. My outdoors split fence horse waterer is so full of algae I have to use a large steel putty knife to scrape it off. Thick layers on the sides, bottom and every nook and cranny. There is more algae in this unit than there ever was in my simple auto stock tank.
That's pretty cute. How about you show us how to do it when its got 2" of sludge on the bottom, it's -20 and a 30mph wind without making a mess and not freezing your hands?
That would be cold! If cleaning is needed during, we would encourage it to be done prior to when it's that cold and if possible, often enough that it wouldn't have 2 inches of sludge. We know in some cases, animals help fill the waterers up with their feed pretty fast so winter cleaning is needed. We would be happy to add you to our winter preparation email list if you would like to provide us with your email address. We include reminders regarding cleaning, how to check heaters and other winter preparation steps. Simply provide the unit(s) that you have to rpeterson@ritchiefount.com.
An inexpensive toilet brush or similar brush can be used to swish the water around and remove dirt. Ask your local vet for animal safe cleaners should you choose to use one.
That was a pretty poor answer to the question she asked. These waterers are a nightmare to clean. You would think the company would come up with a solution to actually clean them. A toilet brush - really? eye roll!
They are an absolute nightmare to clean. You would think the company would have thought of practical ways to clean the waterers long before they marketed them! Is actually cleaning them even possible?
Very helpful

Any suggestion for cleaning out hard water deposits and scum build up? Is it OK to use wire scrub brush on the metal basin? 🤔

This is the worst design ever! Horrible spot for the drain. Wish I would've done more research before wasting my money. I hate cleaning mine!
