    I'm definitely gonna do this with the Canon XL2!!
    I got it from my teacher who knew I loved using it during our final project, because he had no use for it, he let me have it.
    I just don't like tapes due to the mechanism slowly breaking, so this will come in handy!! Thank you sm

    If you still see your footage in 60 fps. Then post compression might change that. You need to export the footage again but set the frame rate. In media encoder you can export the footage at 29 (or 24 like I do) then you will get the correct frame rate

      isnt 60 fps good cause its more appealing

    Quick question, I own a DCR-HC52 Sony Handycam, and it doesn’t have RCA Cable outputs, but it comes with the three RCA cables on one end of the wire and some other type of cable input on the other end (I’m not sure what it’s called) would it still work with the recorder or would you need strictly RCA Inputs on both the camcorder and the separate recorder?

    Hi. Many people make VHS or Hi8 camcorders as examples. I bought digital camcorders Panasonic SDR-S100 and Panasonic SV-AV50. Some recording devices do not work well with those devices. I wonder if Clearclick 2.0 will work on them. These devices can only record for about 25 mins 480p. I plan to record and save directly on this device so I can record longer than that (1hr or more).
    I lesrned from you that I just have to connect the camcorder and turn them on, and press the record button on the digital converter, and not on the camcorder. I wonder if that works on my camcorders as well. I'm excited to buy once I confirmed this matter

  • @Stallzyx
    @Stallzyx ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This is really interesting. Not fully sure what kind of bitrate this would shoot at etc but I've just gone and bought a load of tapes and also a backwards compat digital8 camcorder to have the option of firewire transfer. Now I'm thinking maybe tapeless could be way to go or especially if I want to pick up a camcorder model down the line which doesn't have a screen or I take a risk on a untested or spares or repair one. I haven't got a video handle like that yet but I guess it's more for skate or rolling applications than more static shots. Thanks for the video

      Yeah this movo handle doesn’t seems to be in stock anymore. But all of these kinds of handles have threads in the bottom where you screw it into the bottom of the camera. So you can also attach the whole setup to a tripod if you want

    Here is a silly question for you, One of the ways to save is to use a thumb drive, right. Well, I have a stand alone unit a portable hard drive. Could I use this? I will have to look but I think it is a 200 gig HD. IN the past I had some important files and I saved them to a thumb drive. About three years later I got a fairly decent computer. Got my thumb drive out the one with the important files. Popped it in to the new computer and all those files were gone. I know when I copied those files to the New Scan Disk thumb drive they were there because I checked, then sealed up the thumb drive and put it away. So, I would not get it mixed up or write over it. Still they are gone.

    • @brandoncameracollection

    Would this still work for a camcorder that has one audio/video port? The cable that was with it has a single plug on one end and two on the other (white and yellow).
    From what I can understand, the converter is what actually records the video so you press the record button on the converter and not camcorder. Is that the same with photos?
    Regarding quality, will the converter still have the same resolution that the camcorder sees? I want to preserve that to keep the retro like feel. For example, like in those old school import car videos from the 90s and early 2000s.

    VERY important to know about the Clearclick 2.0 - it ONLY records in 50/60 fps. I truly don't know why anyone would want that but 30fps is not an option so buyer beware. Still on the hunt for a similar device that records native 30fps

      Surely that makes the Clearclick 2.0 unusable, no? VHS tape is either 25fps or 29.97fps, so that would be unusable for recording from VHS. I'm guessing that's also what the camera would record at, so it would have double useless frames?!

      Well if your camera doesn’t have the yellow,white, and red plug ins it will just be a single av out that is yellow. You will need a 3-1 av cable like this one: amzn.to/48NP14u

    • @brandoncameracollection
      @brandoncameracollection  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah with a few of the things I have listed in this video should help you. Using s-video you’ll get better video quality but it doesn’t have audio so you would still have to use the red and white av audio cables for it to work.

    • @hi8clique420
      @hi8clique420 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could you elaborate on how you would use the s-video and the audio from the AV?

    • @brandoncameracollection
      @brandoncameracollection  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes so s-video is only a video connection. It does not have audio. So to get audio with it you have to run the red and white wire from the av cable with the s-video to get audio with it. The red and white wire is the audio for the av. If that all makes sense 😅

    • @brandoncameracollection

      Possibly 🤔 I think I had the same issue at first too with my clearclick and I think what I did is I went into the menu and formatted the sd card I was using. If you continue to have problems try different av cables or try an s-video cable and see if it does any better if your camcorder has s-video

      @brandoncameracollection  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well there are lots of options out there to capture old tape footage. Some cheap and not very reliable and some and some more portable and expensive. And yeah there are plenty of 1080p camcorders you can buy for $200 but I guarantee you will have more fun filming with an old tape camcorder than a tiny basic 1080p camcorder

  • @HonestFred

    No offence but this is blasphemous. Are you intentionally telling people how to make their video look like crap? Even 20yrs ago I knew to use composite cables. Video converters destroy the image. This is really bad advice and defeats the purpose of using a mini dv camera. It meant for tape. Man I dunno why this video gets me heated.

    • @brandoncameracollection
      @brandoncameracollection  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These recorders are a great way for people to start out. I didn’t know how you could capture footage at first but there wasn’t a lot of videos on the subject back in 2017 when I got into “retro” camcorders. I know there are a million different ways you can capture footage. And yes I know using s-video or av cables with mini dv is the best way to capture the footage. But again for someone just starting out with these older cameras it’s hard to find a way to use FireWire
