I hate people who say we're cruel to horses. My horse HATES to run. So I entered her in Junior but only to trot. I got out there and people LAUGHED at my misconformed Appy. They thought, "Why is that messed up horse doing barrels?" As soon as the buzzer sounded that the timers were ready my horse FLEW torwards those barrels. She won first place and blew everyones socks off. THATS how you know horses love what you're asking of them.
Really enjoyed watching your video, good luck in the contest. My daughter barrel races, the sport is so energized. For our horses, we go over and beyond for all their needs. They are athletes!
This is one of the best barrel racing video I have seen and the only one I have saved on my favorites because I am just so dang picky. I LOVE barrel racing!!! Thanks for the amazing video!!!!!!!! :)
Barrel Racing, like EVERY horse sport has great and not so great horse people. There's a lot of behind the scenes work in training a barrel horse you don't just point ur horse at a set of drums and go ya!!! You really have to have a nice strong foundation. Those of you that say bad stuff about barrel racers should spend more time with a barrel racer.
I love this video. I don't barrel race but I really want to. But even though I don't race every time I watch barrel racing I get all happy and excited and even though I don't know what it feels like when your out running I still get so excited because I love watching barrel racing and I hope I can barrel race.
You know what, it's not that hard, I am a barrel racer and I love every moment of it, just get out there and try it, it doesn't hurt to try. If you were to live by me hell I'd teach you myself. Have a wonderful day :-)
Just becuz Im not quite a barrel racer yet doesnt mean I dont know much about barrel racing. Thing that I hate most about barrel racing is when I watch it on tv and the rider at the end keeps whipping the horse and it doesnt go any faster. I found a video of a guy laughing at his horse becuz he was kicking him so much during a barrel race that tuffs of fur came off and the horse had painful bruises as also a result. He went to far.
@EquineGall, I have been Barrel Racing for the past seven years and while there are people out there that do not use any form of feel while riding that does not include every single one of us. I happen to train my horses in the way of Buck Brannaman and Ray Hunt where every thing is off of a feel. I do use spurs only as a reinforcement but as far as pulling on the horses mouth majority of the riders that I run with can run without using any form of a bridle.
great video!! i love barrel racing sooo much! :) and i dont think that anyone should comment if its a rude and nasty comment i mean we all love and have respect for our beautiful horses :) but awesome video.......:)
same here it drives me insane when people put so much pressure on their horses this one kid whipped his horse all the way in the ring through the pattern and out of the gate the horse was shaking so bad i wanted to go and whip the kid!
they do the inside hand is for turning your horse and the other for holding on to the horn so you don't fall off. i have tried to hands on the reins and it is A LOT harder..
listen everyone I am a barrel racer and some barrel racers I have seen at competitions do make me sick with the way they ride. some more harsh some not harsh enough and just let the horses get away with stuff and some others really consider everything. nobodys perfect and you know what when you get in the heat of the game you really tend to lose focus on your equation but that is no excuse for constantly spuring your horse and you are not being considerate of how you would feel if you were constantly having someone drive a huge ass spur in your side after you're already running as fast as you possibly can but that doesn't mean all barrel racers are bad and all horse sports are hard and challenging so please don't underestimate any other sport as well and you know what, you guys need to stop bickering about about how mean or cruel some barrel racers are. you can't do anything to change it so stop complaining about how are and just commend the one thar you feel is doing the best they can, so stop freaking picking on people when it's their life not yours. Have a great day.
My friends were talking about how hard vollyball and tennis was, and that horses was the easiest sport, I told them that they would get on a horse and not know what to do with all the power the horse has, and that they wouldnt be able to tough out and survive the horse world.
@EquineGall I agree. It's an awesome video to show the unnecessary cruelty put on barrel racing horses. And to think, their entire life depends on running in circles around barrels. If they don't manage to fast enough they're dumped at a slaughter auction.
Completely agree and you'll find barrel horses love their job, I mean some horses like to jump some like to run. People who are against rodeo only show the bad parts of it where animals and people get hurt they don't show the parts where all the animals are given the best care one could wish for
I did barrel race 2 years ago but I had to quit because I moved and I have done what the girl did at 16 seconds in the video it is the most heart beating thing ever!y fastest text was 17.2
I hate when people say it takes "speed"... like, yeah u want a good time but you don't NEED speed to be good and considered a barrel racer, like, it doesn't take speed.
Deffinately like the video, you did a great job on it. I need to get me some new video editing software, Microsoft's new video editor isn't the greatest.
those people obviously aren't true horse people. Horses know every single way of blowing peoples mind's when they least expect it. Good job by the way!!! :D
do you ride often? or barrel race? do you think these girls like whipping/spurring their horses? or that they don't have a strong bond of trust with their horses? don't complain about things you don't fully understand, and I can tell you fron experience-things aren't always as they look
@XxImvuCatWalkCheerxX Question wouldn't that part at 2:57 really hurt a horse, like break it's legs? I love horses, but I don't actually barrel race, or take lesson....yet.....
Some barrel racers get ahead of themselves and forget about there horse and think about the fastest time and start yanking and stabbing with there spurs... Or just end up falling off because they rely on there saddle more then balancing themselves. There are great barrel racers don't get me wrong though.
I am a barrel racer and most people use Spurs to get their horse around the barrel we don't 'stab' them with it. I know because I use Spurs and my horse is good.
Do you even ride western, these people know that you need a good seat in the saddle. You try running in a tight circle around the barrel full speed and have your butt in the saddle at all times and never fall off
Leslie Bailey If Ive never ridden western I don't think I would have said what I said. I said there are great barrel racers out there that don't do that but I have seen it happen before.
just a general observation on watching too many youtube videos. i noticed a lot of the accidents seem to come from poor footing or some cases i noticed the rides seem to be more to the outside of the horse then the inside like im assuming your suppose to be. i trail ride and do the occasional playday type of stuff. so i am by far not an expert and know very little about how to actually barrel race but like i said just general observations. one question why does the feet seem to be a bit jammed in the stirrups in a lot of videos?
I can tell you I only crop and spur my horse when im running for cash. I dont just sit there and do it like its fun. She knows when I do it that it means its time to haul. Ive seen many english riders(and pleasure riders) beat their horses. Dont judge unless you are the one sitting on the horse. They love what they do.
The fact that they stumble and fall or miss barrels sometimes... has nothing to do with how good or bad of a rider they are! It just means that we all make mistakes sometimes! I'd like to see some people try and barrel race and see how "easy" it is. Heck no it ain't easy!
So true, I know when i barrel race, I use a snaffle bit because my horse has stopping issues and its not because he doesn't know how it's just he loves to run lol but your right.
Sometimes you have to because I jnow for a fact that when I had a d ring bit in my horses mouth she took advantage of me and now I use a tie down and hrder bit in her mouth and now she does the barrels perfectly so mabe you shoukd try to get in the western saddle and try it it takes time
Why tie down a horse's had when you ask for speed?? It's not the bit it's the training. And when a horse takes off while your trying to stop, it's because they are running away from the bit. Simply mowing on the mouth it's no solution and neither is upping harshness in bit. Also a tie down will slow down a horse and the horse will not be able to bend and flex as well as normal. If ur having that much trouble with a horse to where u feel u need to make it a point to be the boss. I would see a trainer and see if it's yourself as a rider or bad training. Instead of mowing on the horse's mouth. Try pressure and release. I would work ur way off that harsh bit and tie down. And if you use training aids like spurs and whips, probably think about getting ur house trained enough where you won't need it. It's always great to remember that your horse is your friend not your worker for you to boss with unnecessary harshness and unnatural tack and boundaries. Horses remember everything, natural horsemanship and kindness is key to a healthy relationship with your horse no matter what style you ride. It's all about u and ur horse. How would u be able to believe your horse trusts and respects u if you use things that will end up scaring and souring a horse in time. Sometimes fear can be mistaken as trust and loyalty. Just please remember when your on a horse to praise and treat with utmost kindness and respect. They are very forgiving and loving animals but we must show them the kindness that they give us.
omg, i nearly had to turn this off - i feel mega stress and pain just watching. Its easier to be doing it yourself rather than watching and reliving others falls and near misses
Heres a lil barrel racing sotry of mine: I was at school eating lunch with my friends and Annika this girl says that cheer-leading is the most dangerous sport, and that barrel racing is just turning barrels and nothing, i just looked at her and told her well you try controlling a horse at 40 MPH......
@aShotforGlamour about your second sentence i ALWAYS talk to Lacy when I ride her, my thought hurts afterwards because i always talk to her of course i know she doesnt understand me but still...
My family goes to a fair called the Sandwich Fair every year and they do barrel racing. In 2015 a girl fell off her horse first barrel and she was OK. She was one of the first to go. One of the last people weren't so lucky. She fell off and she had to go to the hospital. An ambulance actually had to come. I was taking my niece to the bathroom then so I'm not sure what happened but I think her horse fell on her
@mollypeachharley Well now, that's not too smart, is it? I love all equestrian sports but ya gotta consider is it worth ruining how you will feel for the rest of your life if you have a Major Wreck? Of course, I jump out of airplanes so maybe I should keep my mouth shut.

Watching this really makes me miss barrel racing. I want to do it again. It's such a great adrenalin rush. I sure do miss it.

i have a horse and I love barral raceing. riding makes me feel alive.
All equestrian activities are sports you compete, you win, you get injured, you lose. It's a sport no matter what and I love doing it.
after I pratice with my horses I un tack them and cool them off and give them horse cookies
great video!! i love barrel racing sooo much! :) and i dont think that anyone should comment if its a rude and nasty comment i mean we all love and have respect for our beautiful horses :) but awesome video.......:)

Cassidy Rose that's right I do it all the dang time at rodeos
But your right that's no reason and she's right we do.lose focus a lot of the time ....

I Would love to have that horse at 3:29, he sure can fly through a barrel pattern! And sure enough can run
Great job on this video, song matches perfectly!
Love this vid and a big hand to all those cowgirls! Stay strong!

yes! i am a barrel racer, and any riding sport can be bad if you don't do it right.

1:30. TERRIBLE way to yank back on that horse. If you can't stop them train them before you put a harsh bit in their mouth jeez
omg yes

I am a barrel racer. I fall a lot .but i don't cry.iget back on.
Ive had a horse (the one in my profile picture) try to buck me off almost made me fall with a rear and I never pulled that hard
omg, i nearly had to turn this off - i feel mega stress and pain just watching. Its easier to be doing it yourself rather than watching and reliving others falls and near misses
@EquineGall Duh.You have to get the horse to mave. and if they didn't "yank" at their mouths the horse wouldn't turn tight enough.
wow thats amazing! wtg
SO AGREED LOVE ITTT
I will survive, Stephanie bently
omg how did you get this song I cant find it anywhere!!!!! AMAZING video by the way
Yeah i try to find this song and can not find it
Heres a lil barrel racing sotry of mine: I was at school eating lunch with my friends and Annika this girl says that cheer-leading is the most dangerous sport, and that barrel racing is just turning barrels and nothing, i just looked at her and told her well you try controlling a horse at 40 MPH......

i love this video :)
That's what I said, great horse!!
The horses are trained to only use one hand so we can hold the horn.
Katelyn sercer@ everyone has their falls barrel racing is one of the toughest sports
i really want to barrel race! :)
@aShotforGlamour about your second sentence i ALWAYS talk to Lacy when I ride her, my thought hurts afterwards because i always talk to her of course i know she doesnt understand me but still...
Who sings the song??
My family goes to a fair called the Sandwich Fair every year and they do barrel racing. In 2015 a girl fell off her horse first barrel and she was OK. She was one of the first to go. At 2:24 that is poles not barrels. Fantastic job. =)
@impyness Wow I never expected a reaction like that! I guess there are smart horse people out there ;)
nothin more disappointin than watching that horse run home with no rider on it...
out there who actually care about their horses and know how to ride.
whats the song called and whos it from?
@mollypeachharley Well now, that's not too smart, is it? I love all equestrian sports but ya gotta consider is it worth ruining how you will feel for the rest of your life if you have a Major Wreck? Of course, I jump out of airplanes so maybe I should keep my mouth shut.
@Mariah199612 I have evented and ridden dressage for 15+ years.....I train english, and retrain OTTBs.....whould you like to tell me to "try" anything else?
@EquineGall ohh Hushhh... Geez. I spur, I whip, My horse Loves what she does.
I barrel race and I love it... It is definatly not the easiest. And NO we do not spur or beat are horses. To be able to even have a good barrel horse he/she has to trust there owner. We only use spurs and crops to incourage them. It is like your gym teacher telling you "if you dont try your best you will get a F" of course they are gonna try. So stop with the stupid stuff about barrel races AND english people beat are horses. Thank You!
I tots agree with you!!!! They need to learn how to ride.
@mavrickracer5 try eventing not so invasive and three times the fun!
i will survive with sinba forever
what song is this ?
+McKinley B I Will Survive by Stephanie Bentley
Thx
@thunderbird2341
I am not saying that every English barn is cruel. But I can tell you that the politics of ANY equine event jepordize owner/trainer/rider ethical integrity. For example....I rode at a barn for a whiole specializing in Classical dressage, & it is is THE MOST invasive training there is. Especially if that is the ONLY thing a horse is doing.
Ask any barrel racer, what else wo do with our horses. Cardio training and trails, something ALL horses enjoy to keep healthy mind and body.
My horse won the 2004 virginia state champ ive grown up with her and ive never fell off her once without her standing there and helping me up when i broke my shoulder she broke through the crowd and helped me up and my hors eloves her job when i tack her up and ride her she goes straight to the arena before i evan know what shes doing and ive never slaughter my horse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! impyness!!!!!!!
hay who it this song by ???????
@creativecause62 just because thats what you find and see doesnt make it true. i love my barrel horse more than anything in the world. and he loves what he does. but sometimes you have to push your horse or he gets lazy. im not saying beat them or make fur fall out but whipping and kicking just lets them know to keep it up not nessisarily to go faster.so no you dont know anything about barrel racing. if you hate the sport so much then leave it alone
Who sings this song?
who sings this song
That stupid lady at :50 is using her spurs incorrectly and is going to sour that poor horse to barrels. Some barrel racers make me sick
Your right, I am a show jumper and a barrel racer and I see this all the time at barrel racing competitions, it's sad.
Same here
Spencer House I barrel race on a mustang a I don't us whips or spurs and he's fast
