The story behind the song-“The Prayer” and the rehearsal with Céline Dion at the Grammys that led Josh Groban to his stardom. #CelineDion #AndreaBocelli #JoshGroban
Can you imagine being 17 and getting a call from David Foster who tells you he needs you to sing with Celine Dion and, oh yeah, you're filling in for Andrea Bocelli?
David Foster didn't tell the story right: he called Seth Riggs because he needed someone to sing at Gray Davies inauguration and Seth Riggs sent David 5 tapes. Josh sang there. Two weeks later, when they were at the Grammys and Andrea Bocelli might not make it, then he thought about Josh to sing if Andrea couldn't make it. Then he called Josh.
When his father was filming, a producer told him to stop he couldn't film in there. Rosie O'Donnell was hosting and told the producer to let him record his son. That's the only footage of him singing with Celine that day.
This world needs everything that is mentioned in this song right now. 🙏 I know a lot of people in this world, like me, are grieving for the world we used to live in post pandemic. Please, to anybody reading this, BE THE A LIGHT SO WE CAN DIMINSH THE DARKNESS IN THIS WORLD. God bless you and this world! 🙏
Thank you David for finding Josh Groban. I love his voice I have his music at home. I can listen to him all day long. What a beautiful gift he was given.
I love this story. Not only because it led to the discovery of such a talented singer, but also because if you look up how Bocelli was discovered; it was also due to a very interesting set of coincidences starting with an Italian singer, Zukero, wanting to do a pop/opera duet (Miserere) with Pavarotti, and using Bocelli as the demo voice to try to convince Pavarotti, who said “why do you need me for this when you have this guy?”
@@vervideosgiros1156 David Foster has discovered a huge amount of talent out there. If you haven’t had a chance to watch the DVDs An Evening with David Foster and Friends (1 and 2), I highly recommend it.
@@t1328 I've watched some David Foster's concerts from those David Foster and Friends, here in TH-cam. I'm a huge fan of Joshs., Josh is great! Yes, Zucchero gave Andrea Bocelli his big break; before that, he was just singing in bars. If you have talent and no one give you a big break you can't break through!
Josh got that role on Ally McBeal because of the exposure from singing with Celine at the Grammys rehearsal. After he sang "You're Still You" on Ally McBeal, radio stations were inundated with requests for that song. There was no actual studio recording for radio DJs to use at the time so instead they just re-played the audio from the show episode over and over.
The first time I saw Josh was on a PBS special with Charlotte Church. They sang “The Prayer” together and Josh blew me away. I’ve been following his career ever since. What a voice, what a talent.
I have been lucky enough to see josh in concert the 3 times he has come to Australia. I remember it like it was yesterday when i first heard him, had just gotten to the last track on the new barbara streisand cd and she is singing this duet with him, he has been my favourite singer from this day until now xx
Josh Groban's voice is angelic. The moment you hear it makes your heart surge with love & peace. I have to see him live in concert. Loved this clip. Especially when Gosh says, 'how tight do my pants have to be to hit those notes?' Continued Blessings to him!
I cannot believe Josh Groban said no to David Foster! He must have been out of his mind! David had to call him back for this performance. That’s an opportunity that most singers can only dream about!
ALSO, I must say I love Josh Groban - he is absolutely AWESOME!!!! He absolutely sounds like Andre!!!! FANTASTIC - SENDING LOTS OF LOVE YOUR WAY JOSH!!!!!
David Foster may be the single greatest music mind of our entire generation.... if not ever!!!... He has so many ties to so many artists & songs, it's truly mind numbing!.... He got it wrong once tho.... When he heard Richard Marx's "Right Here Waiting" he told Richard to "stick to writing, bcuz u don't have a marketable voice".... It is so refreshing to see how people in the music craft collaborated and harboured one another's space together. This is the type of work which creates a song such as "The Prayer" which becomes an inevitable masterpiece of musical vocals. Thank you to David Foster, Celine Dion, Josh Groban, et al in the background. Namaste. 🦚

It was Ally McBeal that introduced a lot of people to Josh. It was wonderful comedy, but what sold it for me was Josh's music teacher who kept referring to his nervous condition as Necrophilia instead of a hypochondriac. I was curious to hear the voice the music teacher raved about, and of course I was blown away like most others.

I appreciate Carole Bayer Sager pointing out the elephant in the room that it originated in Quest for Camelot - I never hated the movie but know it had a lot of problems. Always annoys me that it doesn't get the credit for introducing this song to the world (and its original rendition - different from the Dion/Bocelli version is itself lovely and poignant)
