      Not many beach-goers are fans since we have a tendency to dominate an area in spouts of aggressive spurts that typically get little kids ran over or clipped in the ankle/shin.
      I love skim boarding!

    Awesome.im 61 and have still pics of me skimming wedge in the late 60's through the 70's on a bon aire plastic skimmer....The ones with the handles. ...lolololol i used to be the only skimmer for many yrs in seal beach on south side all the way to ventura county.i have pics of me skimming a papio board as a very young kid on waikiki bch.i really love how skimming have as evolved to what it is today and its because of you young guys pushing it further,keep the great attitudes and tgak you from an old skimmer.funny story...an old kneeboarder named ron romanowski once took my skimmer(the bon aire) from me at the wedge and flung way WAY out because he hated me skimming there lolololol i was bout 13yrs old lololol....i swam out got it and kept skimming....he was pissed lolololol

    If only I went to the beach more then once a year D; Luckily I can skim when it rains a lot and a stream floods on the grass. No waves, but if it rains enough, water runs down a hill and you can go down that. These videos are making me pumped for this year tho!

      @@jimtwomey If the beach doesn't have rocks in with the sand where the waves crash YES. If you live at the beach then you should easily be able to find some skimboards in a surf shop. Don't get a wooden one since you already know what you are doing pretty much. Will cost like 100-200$ depending on your size and preference.

    Back in the day, we used to make our own skimmers (sand surfers) out of quarter-inch plywood. We'd cut them round with a beveled edge and then coat them in fiberglass. The kind of boards they have today didn't even exist and we could even imagine riding like they do today. Well, it's been many years since the 70's but I've been a surfer for years since then, but I'd love to try skimming like this!

      @ANDYCONDA l Yo. I live near the lake and let me tell ya... it’s gonna be hard. For starters, it’s too rocky. The you have to fans a non rocky part or you’ll scratch up your board.
      Another thing is that the waves aren’t big enough.
      The one good thing is that the lake does provide some decent flat boarding on the watery sand.

    Wish I had this kind of intel skim boarding 30 years ago. My son is getting into it now too, and I am laughing about how many things I had wrong trying to figure this out back in the day with zero idea on how to do this properly. Seriously, attacking the waves perpendicular vs. trying to stay parallel to the beach is already silly fail #1. I blame it mostly on not seeing anyone else who knows what they are doing, but I am still laughing at myself at the same time haha.

      ChunkyFish Yt I’ve got eel snot and it seemed to make my board go slower. This may be due to the fact that I ride a 160 lb board and I’m almost 200 lbs. Would anybody have a recommendation for boards?

      Yeah if u wanna reach far waves ur gonna need a fiberglas skinbosrd From victoria skimboards or exile which is unfortunately very expensive. I was lucky enough to get a very good victoria skimboards skimboard for only 130 Euro with Pads. U can try n get a used one too maybe ur Lucky

    Question: does it matter that I naturally get on my board with my front foot than back foot

    • @HMS-Pogue
      @HMS-Pogue 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i’ve often pondered this but then came to this conclusion: going lead foot first drives the board into the sand /water which can create drag. if you go back foot first, you’re introducing weight towards the back of the board first, maybe lifting the front slightly up and cutting through the water more efficiently ..? idk. all the pros do it back foot first.. i think. idk just speculatin

    • @tylergunther8219
      @tylergunther8219 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of people who do inland or flatland skimming go front foot first because it doesn't really matter, but if you're trying to get to a wave you're gonna need all the speed you can get so you would use the 1 step.

    • @KaiOwensDrums
      @KaiOwensDrums 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one step getting on the back foot first is generally the preferable option by most people, but tons of incredible skimboarders do it different ways including, matt buchanan and Gerardo Valencia

      No. Get Fiberglass board with grip. It's all about learning to jump on the board, back foot first, while sprinting fast.

    • @RmfDiz
      @RmfDiz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really, no. It was mentioned already that wood boards are heavier, and only meant for flatland skimming. These wave skimming boards are made with foam cores and kevlar, and carbon fiber and stuff, more like a surf board. They'll still sink (think standing on a surfboard with no momentum) but will make it easier to stay on top of deeper water longer, as long as you have momentum.
