    You should check outside with shibe chanel he's got the same wood splitter you do and he put a hydraulic arm on it to be able to move it up and down on the splitter end. Works out really good for him .

      I follow him! His adjustable wedge works great, I actually have my own design of the same system in the works...stay tuned 🍻

    DRD good to see another ruggedmade owner. For the price these machines are hard to beat. Interested to see your mod for the wedge. I’ve done a few mods to mine as well.

      It’s been a fantastic machine for me, can’t wait till the fall/winter to play with it more. I’ve slowly been figuring out my plan for the wedge lift, it will be a winter project 👍🏼

      Dude Ranch When you go to add valve for wedge lift look at changing out your splitter valve to an auto cycle valve. Big time saver while splitting/stacking

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was actually just looking at some of your videos and what parts and mods you’ve done to your splitter and decided that I would do the auto cycle at the same time. Is it difficult to swap out? Not very knowledgeable about what would need to be done to make it work properly.

    • @garny3766

      Dude Ranch DIY pretty easy. Valve is expensive though. www.surpluscenter.com/Hydraulics/Hydraulic-Valves/Directional-Control-Valves/Prince-Auto-Cycle-Log-Splitter-Valve-w-Power-Beyond-RD523MMEE5A4C1-9-6587-PB.axd will need to drill holes in valve plate to mount. And if you’re adding another valve for wedge lift you’ll have to modify/extend current valve mount plate.

    Put short logs on a stick to raise em up while splitting or grind the metal for wedge to drop lower

    DON'T THINK I LIKE THE WEDGE MOVING UP AS WOOD IS SPLIT

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s something I’ve gotten used to, but I might be adding a small pin to my setup to keep the wedge from floating up!

    • @jamesrussell6870
      @jamesrussell6870 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The moving wedge prevents jams.. Also allows splitting single piece on bottom to push wedge up a little instead of jamming up or creating slivers.

  • @RRaucina
    @RRaucina 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wedge sits too high and too loose, no adjustment or lock.

    • @DudeRanchDIY
      @DudeRanchDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Richard, the wedge has now been modified to be hydraulically adjustable up and down. No lock on it due to the added pressure it would add to the small cylinder used to raise and lower it.

    • @pearlrival3124

    You need to wear safety gloves.....!

    • @timberhitchllc
      @timberhitchllc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chainsaw (or any saw for that matter) and log splitter are 2 places where you do NOT wear gloves. If the fabric gets caught in any part of the machine, you will almost certainly not be able to react quickly or be strong enough to retract your hand. Back 40 Firewood almost lost his hand because he was wearing gloves while operating his splitter. When operating many other power tools, the same rule (and hazard) applies.

    • @jamesrussell6870
      @jamesrussell6870 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Put your gloves back in your purse & put some calluses on those tender hands!
