Convoy L6 Flashlight Review. A Big 3000 Lumen Light for $65

  • The Covoy L6 is basically the best value high lumen light under $100. It's a 4 mode light that puts out over 3000 lumens... and just over $60!! This review has beamshot comparisons between Nitecore TM16GT, The Sky Ray King, 2 Acebeam Lights, The Noctigon Meteor, and a Sunwayman. I discuss the User Interface, and wander around with the light at night. If you need the best big flashlight for under $100 for 2016, the Convoy L6 is the best flashlight. The version reviewed here is the 5000k tint.
    You can get it at Gear Best: www.gearbest.co...
    Recommended Protected Cells: www.mtnelectron...
    Batteries used in this video (not protected): www.amazon.com...
    This light is much better and brighter than a lumitact g700 or a bell and howell taclight. So don't buy those.

    Have had an L6 for a couple of years. Paid $47 shipped. Surprised it’s still so reasonable. Easily my favorite light. Beautiful design, engineering and function. Built like a tank. A really nice tank. Use only matched protected cells. Highest possible recommendation.

    Best light reviews on TH-cam by far! You need to test one of them modded Convoy L6 from Adventure Sports Flashlight. And compare it to the stock convoy.

    Thanks for the review really like the reference to the song "Convoy"! Didn't realize how throwy this light was, glad I've held off on buying it, I prefer a floody beam like the M43 has

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Justin Barnes It is a bit throwy.... The r50 and ec50 are both slightly less bright lights with a lot more flood- both are relatively compact too.

    Fenix..hand over fist better when compared to a lot of other lights, especially Surefire..But the light you showed with over 4k lumens and 256k candela...Dude O_o that's nuts..my Fenix TK61 is absolutely awesome at just 1k lumens, and puts out 170k peak beam intensity..it has a true effective range of more than 800 feet. the Fenix LD60 puts out 2800 lumens and 54k candela, or peak beam intensity, and it throws excellent for a flooder. Fenix is just awesome for the price of what you get. thanks for sharing the video. it was informative

    Have you thought about picking up the Convoy L2? I've seen a lot of hype regarding this light as a great budget thrower with people usually outfitting it with an XP-L HI emitter and 7135+FET driver providing somewhere in the neighborhood of ~200Kcd. Overall it seems like a pretty decent budget thrower worth picking up if you haven't already.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Grant Miller I haven't yet. I have a few bigger lights that put out more than 200kcd, but nothing this size. I've thought about it, and may pull the trigger in a few months. I haven't had much time for modding lately with all the videos I've been putting out.

    I watched this one just because I knew it would make me laugh. Thanks.
    It looks a bit like the Rayovac Beast, which someone gave me as a gift. It only has 2000 L, but the main reason I don't use it more is because it uses CR123's only, and the interface is awful. It's on/off to change modes, no memory, and when you turn it back on you get the mode AFTER the last one you used. I will be getting the Convoy L6, but need to space it out because I just bought the Nitecore MH20 and three other lights which are all in the mail.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah. I like this sort of mode operation on big lights. Space it out man... plus you need to get batteries too, and that's like another $20.

    Ah, I finally find you again! Forgot to sub since last time (Shadowhawk scam, maybe you'll remember me mentioning Convoy back then).
    Two questions:
    1. If you reverse-grip this light, doesn't it feel front-heavy?
    2. Would you mind reviewing the C8, the budget EDC thrower of choice?
    Anyway, see ya on the next upload, bro! :D

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not too bad... The battery tube kind of balances it out. I mean it's still sort of heavy, but not as unbalanced as you'd think. I will... it'll be a bit though, as I need to finish up more stuff than I was expecting.

    • @DinnerForkTongue

      ***** Right, right, I always forget that we're talking about 26650 here. Those little guys are pretty hefty.
      I noticed you're swamped from the sheer amount of videos you've been posting. You're doing a good job, though, so jam on.

  • @statesmanls1
    @statesmanls1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The question is can you buy quality 26650s I've tested some of mine and they only do about 1500-2000mah. I'm inclined to run something with 3 or 4 18650 lg hg2. 3000mah and can put out big power. What's the best 26650

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there are good 26650 batteries. I have included two good types, that work with this flashlight in the description of the video. You can always be assured that the batteries at Mountain Electronics are genuine and match close to their mah rating. The Thorfires I used for this video, I purchased off Amazon, are 5000 mah. I did a test of them with my charger today and they came out to be 5500 mah. Buying legit batteries, from reliable vendors, helps ensure you're getting good batteries. If your batteries have the word "fire" in them, then no they probably suck. With just about every light I review I link known good batteries in the description.

  • @differentname8051

    just received an l6 yesterday and it very impressive. I got it from convoy electronics on aliexpress for £56. The batteries could be a bear if you don't watch out.
    Which driver did you use in your skyray king ? I have just ordered a new driver 32x 7135s v2 for mine from mountain electronics as I could not find any in the UK.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the V1 of that driver- also bought from Mtn. Electronics. It's a great driver... and probably all said- my most used light. It's the bedside light my wife uses. It's basically used for a ceiling bounce night light, used on it's moonlight mode.

    • @differentname8051
      @differentname8051 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, that is exactly where my sky ray king is at the moment doing the exact same thing. Incredible

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice. Nothing like a 2000 lumen light being used on it's lowest mode. I got the warmest XML2 emitters I could get at the time, so it's a nice night-lightish tint.

  • @MrAndrewmcgibbon
    @MrAndrewmcgibbon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    so you're saying this light is prolly better than the free 9 LED light i got with a coupon at Harbor Freight? did i mention it runs on 3 aaa batteries that came with it and its Shiney red Anodized aluminum?

  • @igloo2862
    @igloo2862 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would have liked to see closer to 5000 lumens out of this XHP70. I prefer the K40M over this as it is smaller and has that nice magnetic ring, but it's almost double the price.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All valid points. It is a huge light... and the K40M has a moonlight mode too. But in terms of maximum output and tint, it's so close. But yeah... it's $54 right now.

    I'm still struggling to get my l6 to turn on. I'm sure this is a very stupid question, but you put both batteries + side down correct? I purchased two 26650 Liitokala batteries. Like I said before, I have yet to be able to get the flashlight to turn on. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope with few exceptions the + almost always goes toward the end. Both face the same way just like old flashlights like a Maglite. A common and easily fixable fault in a lot of lights is the internal section of the tailcap. Remove the tailcap and look inside the cap... there is a ring called a retaining ring that crews down to hold the switch in place... make sure it isn't loose. If it's loose it could cause the light to not turn on. Also make sure your batteries are charged... low battery voltage could also cause ti to not light up... a fullly charged battery is 4.2 volts. Both batteries should be charged.

      I took the chance a few years ago when it was on sale for $500- and I've been happy with it. You do need to add color in contrast in your editing software, because it shoots in a very flat color style- but that means it's good for adding a lot of different color schemes.

      +Advanced Knife Bro ok. So educate me please. Thrunite, Olight, Klarus, Convoy, etc. who is top
      Of the heap? Or is it really just a matter of finding the one who's features and price meet your needs? Frankly, if I had the money I'd just stick with Surefire. Their products have withstood the test of time for me but they are pretty pricey.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Surefire has probably the best Guarantee out there, but you pay double or triple in price for basically for that guarantee, and that it's made in USA. The performance of Surefires always lags behind their competitors. Build quality is good though. Basiaclly all you mentioned are good lights. Zebralight, Armytek, and Nitecore are also good choices. But it's what you said... what do you need in a light? Throw (Long range)? Pocketability? Max Lumens? Everyday Carry? For everyday carry... Zebralight, Armytek, or some of these Astrolux I've reviewed.

    • @MichaelTravis12c27
      @MichaelTravis12c27 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Advanced Knife Bro I have a Zebralight headlamp. It's an older model and the run times aren't the best but it's a fantastic light. I'll need to go through your light videos and educate myself. Knives I know. Lights, not so much. Which is odd because I use a flashlight about as much as I use my knives.

  • @bigaarmory100
    @bigaarmory100 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dollars for lumens I don't think you'll find a better value than the Convoy L6. I was extremely impressed by the beam output in turbo and other modes. The flashlight worked flawlessly until the first time the batteries (Keeppower IMR 26650 5200mAh with only three charges on them) were removed for charging. After reinstalling the batteries the light will not turn on. I also tried the flashlight with other 26650 batteries and even 18650 batteries with no luck. What I have now after eight months is a very short and very expensive club to swing at people in the dark rather than a flashlight to see them with.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +BigAArmory did you try bridging the tail to the battery? Remove the tailcap and use a piece of wire to bridge the back of the second battery to the battery tube bare aluminum... tailcap switches become loose and you might just have to tighten it down internally in the switch to solve the problem.

    Sucks they are out of the protected batteries, I ended up buying the equivalent non protected. I do not run down my batteries and keep them as a matched pair.

    Convoy L6 or convoy L21, which achieves greater light distance?

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not familiar with the L21. But looking at the candela specs I see 227,575 Cd. That makes it easy… the candela spec of a given light simply put will tell you that. Look for the candela of rhe l6 you’re going to purchase and if the candela is less on the l6, then the l21 will throw further. Intensity of candela in a given light is always the best figure to determine which lights have longer beam distances. Watch my video about candela and lumens.

    I love my Convoy L6 and its little brother the C8. I'm going to have someone de-dome the L6 for more throw and less spill. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Convoy Flashlights! Got mine from mtnelectronics.com who is a very well respected Seller right here in the USA!

    Boondock Saints quote?

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jooky5 I think most of these quotes are from that country song. I don't remember intentionally putting a boondock saints quote in- but I do put a lot of movie and song quotes in my reviews

      Thanks M Hanlen, may I request one thing, when you shine the light outside the house ,please don't move your hand too quick. Slowly pan the light will allow the viewer can see the beam easier.Don't get me wrong, your review has been great so far with your sense of humor. cheers.

      Noted... I'll try to have some nice calm shots of slow beam movement. I really don't mind suggestions. They have helped me improve my voiceovers... stay away from using music... improve my beamshot sections... and some other things.

      Yes Not using music is great, I avoid the morons who stick music into the videos, I never understood why they think its a good idea.

      *So true.* I've multiple theories about that ^^
      Maybe they are thinking:
      1/ Their music is the one everybody likes, or rather, that they want everybody likes.
      2/ People have never hear music before and they makes them to do a surprising discovery "You hear that ? this is MUSIC !". Huh.
      3/ Or that people don't know how to put music by their own, cause it's an incredible technology :p
      LET US PLAY OUR MUSIC IF WE WANT TO !! THANKS !!
      *Thanks AKB for your great flashlights reviews

      Iunno. I just know that the original Keeppowers that Banggood sold as picked specifically for the L6 don't fit anymore. From what it sounds like, they're double-wrapping them.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Stacy Keen Lol? If you've browsed my videos... you'll find a lot of light reviews. Why would I make shit up? If you look under my TM16GT video- which it seems you haven't.. you'll see a coupon code to bring it to $160. Now since you're a math guy you'll have to figure out where exactly between 2-3x $160 falls. And actually for about 6 months it was $129 with a coupon code. lol is right.
