Caligula was a nightmare for the politicians, not the general public. He became quite unpopular due to certain controversial laws he reinstated that were unpopular during Tiberius's reign. He was a promising good emperor in his very first months it was the Game of Thrones that was Roman politics and his tragic upbringing and finally his sudden illness is what led him to be paranoid and drove him mad. These are very understandable circumstances. Calugila pales in comparison to later emperors who were sick depraved lunatics like Caracalla and Honorius.
This was scarcely the strangest thing that the mad emperor did, "terrorizing the Senate" and we all know who wrote the history at that time, yes the Senate who always blackmailed Emperors that they hated, Nero for one is a great example on this and nobody can know for sure what really happend but Nero accomplished great deeds and was a good Emperor for along time but everyone remembers him as the tyrant and lunatic incest even going as far as to having his mother assisnated wich was a very serious crime in Roman law, to kill a relative (Incest was even worse). Who is to say that this was not the same with Caligula, yes Iknow the history pretty well about all the Julio-Claudians and their ancestors in the Republican era but it is just a thought.
Tiberius’ story is very inspiring because it shows us that in life it doesn’t matter your situation and if you are born to be great you will certainly be great. Amen 🙏
I still giggle at how he declared war on Poseidon and ordered his legions to go to beaches and stab the water, before making them collect seashells as "war booty."
It was an informative and wonderful historical coverage (video) about both Caligula and Claudius emperors' rules of Roman empire thrones ...events reflected brutalities ,complicated relationships, and opportunistic attitudes amongst closed groups and political elites of Roman empire thrones...
Actually, when Caligula was ill and many Senators made pledges (especially for the gods to take them instead of the emperor), Caligula demanded that they keep their pledge. No doubt that any Senator afterwards ever offered a pledge like that again!
I think he got lead poisoning. A lot of his personality shift can be explained as symptomatic of lead poisoning. His poor baby daughter, though. Surprised no one got rid of the Praetorians.
I think Nero was worse. Commodus was a real dork. Nero a beat his wife to death and then out of grief he had a young boy who looked like her castrated and then he married this boy. I actually feel bad for Caligula. Get a really screwed up childhood Tiberius basically butchered his whole family and then held him hostage. Subjected him to like really sick things at his villa, so he kind of shaped Caligula into this madman that he became, but I don't think he was a natural born psychopath. I think he was a sociopath. Meanwhile, Nero was just a natural psychopath Nero's father was also like brutally murdered this woman and was a sicko. I mean if you look at like portraits of Nero he just looks disgusting. He has his neck beard and just grotesque look on his face. He's just a real evil guy. He's just a natural psychopath I don't look down upon Caligula's treatment of the Senate. The Senate were a bunch of privileged clowns. They no longer represented the people of Rome so I don't really knock Caligula for his treatment of the Senate. You know I mean the senate was a joke. Why should he have respected them? They were nothing. I mean they were just ineffective government you know so I don't really knock them on all that. Caligula was a really Young Guy, so his Lavish Spending sort of make sense. He lived as a Party Boy.
@@johncane2304he was trolling the senate and they took it personally. It shows that he didn’t respect their authority, and they repaid the favour by writing most of the history we know about him now
The Senate didn't like the Julio-Claudians, despite how Augustus feigned humility. Dude killed a few Senators himself, along with Tiberius, Claudius, and Nero. I'd also say Caligula, but he was known more for humiliating them. The horse as consul thing was definitely an example of him trolling them
To whoever reads this, I just want to let you know that Jesus Christ loves you so much and He died for you on the cross to forgive your sins, and rose from the dead on the 3rd day to give you eternal life! Repent of your sins and turn to Jesus Christ! Put your trust in Him and you will have eternal life! For today is the day of salvation! God loves you and wants to be in relationship with you 🙂❤️
Dacă era așa crud și nebun,de ce oare poporul a cerut să fie uciși asasinii lui Caligula?A fost un împărat care era iubit de popor, și a deranjat nobilimea romana și senatul prin unele măsuri și asta la costat viața!

Can we get one on Claudius, he's such an underrated ruler and he has such an interesting story

As such, Praetorian guard got the title of Emperor Maker!

Domitian is the best example for that. My man was the best Emperor since Augustus in my books

Apparently, that was his way of punishing mutinous legions for not wanting to go to Britain
I love teaching about the Roman Emperors.
That end shot with the horse. Oh what could have been.
Truly, once again people being a killjoy by assassinating the most entertaining ones too early.

He sure did have an insane character arc
Ahh Emperor Claudius "Such was life for Uncle Claudius." ~Dovahhatty,
Please make a video about Kingdom of Romania under Fascism.

“Cause all I hear is threats from a brute with no discipline, and I’m ruling over you like a boot full of my citizens!” Julius Caesar
Whenever a Caesar is crowned, God flips a coin and the world holds its breath.
Great job 👍 SPQR
He's my favorite
UNCLE CLAVDIVS FINALY IN THE GAME
I think he got lead poisoning. A lot of his personality shift can be explained as symptomatic of lead poisoning.
His poor baby daughter, though. Surprised no one got rid of the Praetorians.
Without the praetorian guard, who would protect the emperor under normal circumstances?
Constantine abolished the praetorian guard…300 years after the death of Caligula…
Constantine: "fine....I'll do it myself"
Pure definition of die as a hero and live long enough to become the villain

This might be an L take but what if he died and someone was just pretending to be him which is why its such a massive personality shift
When the Legionaries mutinated against his Father they immediately stopped the mutiny when they made little Caligula sad
Caligula wasn't crazy. It's just propaganda of senatorial class.
I don't think so,giving a title for horse ,is crazy and a disrespect to the senate

Calligula was totally nuts
Yeah but I can’t complain
Its not him, it was his illness so why are you saying hes totally nuts?
Wake up hun a new knowledgia video is out
interesting "us" characters in pagan Rome. make a video about the Roman character Dies_us, aka Jesus.
"Tiberius Claudius Caeser Augustus Germanicus" yeesh Roman names could be a mouthful
Judging from the thumbnail I could already tell that he did so many horrendous and terrible things in his reign.
Defied himslef? Deified himself maybe?
Well he was insane, so he may have managed to do both!

Tiberius a fost de departe mai rău decât Caligula!

Many similarities between Caligula and Biden
Caligula somebody Donald trump can look up to😅
