Tiberius was one of Ancient Rome's greatest generals, whose campaigns protected the northern frontier. He reigned for 22 years, and the first part of his imperial work was excellent. Later, he came to be remembered as a dark, reclusive, and somber ruler. Tiberius, a popular victorious general, spent a period in exile before reacquiring power near the end of Emperor Augustus's reign. As Augustus's successor, Tiberius grew the imperial treasury, leaving 20 times the wealth he had inherited.
Tbh if drusus didn't die in Germania he could've secured Germania more than Tiberius does Which could've prevented massive migration by proto-german which you know... Caused by the Huns
Everyone who takes interest in ancient roman history needs to remember the context of this period. The roman republic was still in everyone's memory, and the ancient historian who were documenting those periods were by no means neutral. They were from the upper class of roman society- the people who could write. They used to be the ruling class under the roman republic, and were in general defiant towards the empire. There is definitely a tendancy among ancient roman historian to paint every emperor as either a weak man or a tyranical maniac - only the very popular one were spared this treatment. Take every ancient source with a grain of salt
Yeah, you read about some of these men and they actually seem really nice, albeit with human flaws. That is what propaganda can do to history I suppose.
It was an informative and wonderful historical coverage video about Rome imperior Tiberius ... rather than his personal and social difficulties ,he rolled the Roman empire successfully ...
Augustus neither liked nor respected Tiberius indeed his final words in his will said. Though fate has cruelly taken my heirs I have been forced to go with Tiberius. Basically anyone in the family but Tiberius. Augustus was a practical man though he personally didnt want it nor Tiberis covet the throne. Circumstances forced them to accept that reality, all the other heirs were dead, if Tiberius had refused another ambitious man would have stepped into the vacum.

It's crazy how men like to call hot emotional anger is cold and calculated. Men like to think of what they do as logical and cold when it's actually done out of anger jealousy and selfishness. very emotional.
It seems that being separated from his beloved is what started all this. So when Augustus was later begging Tiberius to come back to Rome (as the video puts it), couldn't he have asked to be re-united with his lover as a deal to come back?
For me Tiberius wasn't reluctant, >He probably just doesn't like how Augustus portrayed himself as god and have a cult following, most likely cause he knew the person closely and know his charector faults and other bad sides, that's why he refuses to take "godly" titles, cause "I am a human afterall". >He wants to senete to work and be powerful. Senet during reign of Augustus became a council rubbestamp yes men, either he doesn't want to take all load of running empire or doesn't want such great institution to get decayed, so he continues to entrust more and more duties to them.
Am I really to believe that Augustus tried to get his daughter to commit adultery [a crime in ancient rome] on his best friend Agrippa, who he absolutely respected and trusted his whole life/considered him his best friend, & mourned his passing, married his daughter off to in the first place, to sanction an allegiance by marriage in Tiberius so he'd have a successor? Is that what you're telling me?

This was one of the biggest issues with putting ares to the throne on the front lines where they can be killed. If they were kept off the front lines working where they were less likely to be killed, would have changed the line of succession while making sure the likely best aire to the “first citizen”. The other issue is the senate did not have the power to help select the new emperor requiring a senate vote and having a more stable system to make sure a new emperor was chosen properly with out civil wars wud have helped to keep Rome stronger through out the centuries.
I dk if he didn’t want or didn’t like being emperor as there are clues and evidence to tie Tiberius to Germanicus’ death who he could have easily turned the reigns over to.
Out of all the enemies, nemisis, foes, rivals, opposers, detesters, revultors, and backfighters against The Romans And Greeks The Germanics proved to be there greatest challenge of all due to the climatic conditions they lived in with many hills, mounds, cliffs, and mountains as well as the cold terrain which Med peoples in general with Romans And Greeks in specifics were not too accoustomed too over all as well as Germanics being more agressive then any other people they tried to gain a foot over even The Celts yeah.
Doesn’t help they took Chieftain’s kids and raised them as Roman’s so then you have people like Arminius who basically made sure Rome never entered Germany again.

So you're saying Tiberius Made Rome Great Again?
He kinda owned Egypt and taxed the living daylights out of the trade in spices. It's not difficult to imagine getting enormously wealthy from that.

Tiberius sounds like the villain with a tragic backstory for a Shonen hero to learn about, and have a heartfelt moment before the final battle.

I’ve been searching for something like this. This is the best video essay that I’ve found on Tiberius. Thanks
