This is the only reason i still live in Devils Lake!
I watched this when I was 7 and thought it was the best vid and I still do 👍
Very cool video gets me excited for ice season!
Thanks InDepthOutdoors TV. I appreciate it and will more than likely purchase one in the future! Love the TV shows!
You're right to each their own. I love the anticipation of not knowing what's on other end of the line till I pull it thru the ice. The fishing on DL is so easy a novice can go out and have a good time. Some of us are just a little more natural or true outdoorsmen than others. Thanks for spending time on our lake and happy to see you were successful. Fish hard, fish safe, but most of all have a good time
Ha you are a fucking idiot
The perch at 4:55 is a MONSTER!!
6 in the morning, no sleep, I'm going ice fishing. Great vid.
That is what I have, I am not really super serious ice fisherman, but it is perfect for what I need. Very happy with it.
oh my it's really nice of you to let go that big perch, they grow slowly so that was probably some grand grand father or better (or mother :P) really nice perches.
Awesome episode! Cant wait to get onto devils lake for the first time this winter! Looks like it will be a great time
Thank you!
I also live in Devils Lake, And yes the perch here are that big and yes anybody can catch these beauties like this.
Went ice fishing there last year. Had a great time catching some nice perch
Incredible video! Incredible underwater footage and absolutely INCREDIBLE perch! In utah we only catch perch the size of the minnows you're using to catch those monsters! Only in my dreams will I ever see a perch that big!
Thanks for tuning in and the compliments on the videos. We'll be cranking them out come first ice so stay tuned.
As far as L. Simcoe is concerned, we've never fished that particular body of water so we really can't make the comparison with Devils. We do know that Simcoe is a very good perch fishery based on reputation. Maybe some day we'll get there!
Hi BushWacker - I didn't say they weren't good eating. I said I prefer to eat smaller fish and let the larger ones go. Your mileage may vary and I completely respect your right to keep larger perch. For me... I just dig letting those big ones go and making a meal out of the 11".
Phenomenal Episode with great instructional techniques. Kudo's
big fan of your show keep up the good work
Excellent instructional video utilizing Marcum technology. Pete
This is an enjoying show.Would love too do a open water,or ice fishing on that lake. Will save this show for information. THANKS
awesome video i cant wait for the season
Very good vid .
Cool stuff. At 15.43 near the surface on the left, there's a little creature swimming by. I can't tell if it's a minnow or freshwater shrimp. Perhaps the Perch have been fattening up on those.
@pheasantmaster
Will do. We'll have lots more to share as we get out on the ice here in MN. Thanks for tuning in!
Great perch
Hi Leah, a 1:1 fly reel is really only practical in shallow water. Anything over 15' and the time it takes to retrieve line and lure makes it impractical to fish with the 1:1 reels. Eagle Claw and 13 Fishing have fly reel style reels out with a multiplied retrieve approaching 3:1. Check them out for use in deeper water.
Really liked the video but here's a common problem. Most people are on a budget and devils lake is so huge its difficult to find those hot bites without spending a ton of time looking. I spent a whole week looking for fish to bite and ended up leaving skunked. Pretty tough when you came from Michigan 17 hours away. But I'll be trying my luck again this year in February hopefully I can figure something out because all I hear is "this is amazing fishing"
You have my dream job sir.
4# line works very well for big perch and whitebass.
pike in the top right corner of the screen at 2:09
You've got'a hit Southeastern part of Lake Michigan in the harbors. Anywhere from Milwaukee down to Northern Chicago for jumbo perch. We're talking 15-17 inchers, they look like Waleyes they're soo big.
@judagrmn
Thanks for tuning in!
I like how the perch dont hide when the northern appear! everytime i use my cabelas camera i see perch flea as quick as they can when they see a northern!
@citalopram40mg
Thank you... and we will! Next new episode will air this weekend Jan 8, 2012 @ 8 AM on FSN
Each to their own. For me, I feel the opposite. I love being able to see a fish on my flasher and adjust my presentation to the mood of a specific fish.
Not sure who watched that deeper commercial but hell it was funny
I used to think that too. But let me tell you , you are WRONG. I borrowed my buddys auqa view and yes, it is fun to actually see what you are fishing. You can scope out fishing spots, actually "see" the structure in different parts of the lake. I have a totally new outlook on the camera thing now, I think it is great, and most of all, really, really, fun!
@TroutSlayer97
Cortland ProCast #3/4 Another good one is the Frabill flyreel. Both can be found online at Thornebros if you want to dig into the specs for each.
@BornAlroundFisher
Greetings! No, the marcum camera can't do the recording. But we have figured out ways to record from the MarCum's video out port. Please see this video for details on how to get that done >>> th-cam.com/video/KLgfs1RM_Aw/w-d-xo.html&feature=share
when you pull up those big ones, i just smile in disbelief....
Thanks for actually keeping the fish most tv anglers do it for show only which is disgusting. Love eating perch.
Devils Lake, North Dakota.
The spot behind you anytime during the 25 minute mark, is there a white farmhouse in that tree area to the right of the screen your left as you're kneeled down? I've fished that spot if so, drifting for walleyes.
Would four pound test be good for perch and White Bass when Ice Fishing?
That was definitely a shrimp. Devils is loaded with them and help those perch grow super fat.
What type of marcum sonar do you think a first time sonar user should buy?
what is that spool backed with?? looks like fly line
Hey is that inline reel a one to one. I am interested in getting a inline reel but the slow reeling concerns me. Does that pose a problem? or is it worth it?
if you would have to choose between a flasher or underwater camera, what will you buy. Im on relatively clear water lakes in ontario
Check out the Marcum LX9 Combo!
what kind of jig are you using
on the Marcum camera can the fish see the LED light at night?
They typically are not impacted.
What fly reel do you guys use in your video?
I really wish i were as good as you. :( Im 14 and not very good. I need more lures...

I really wish I was good at fishing with a camera LOL
Takes a lot of practice, but when you are comfortable with a subject sometimes it comes a bit easier. Most often people improve the more they are on camera, with the attention on them.
Where's does James get the idea that a 14" perch is too big! I've eaten them for years and they are great eating. That's the first time I have ever seen anyone not keep one that size for bigger for that matter. That's nuts!
What part of the lake are you fishing? How far are you from Rocky Point are you in the video?
Yea i take a pic in the paper this girl cought a world record 12 lbs 👍
where do you go on devils lake for ice fishing? im about to go to college at und and i need hotspots for ice fishing.
You should check out Dr. Sonar Map Chips of Devils Lake. The key to fishing Devils, is finding old structure that has been under the current water level for years. You can fish old trees, ditches and road beds. Outside of that, join our forums at www.in-depthoutdoors.com and read through the Devils Lake page for more info!
+InDepthOutdoorsTV thanks!
how deep of water are u fishing in
We were fishing in that 10-15 foot range.
Is this ND or WI?
What time of year was this?? @indepth
Hi! This video was filmed one week prior to November 27th, 2011. All of our episodes are filmed, edited, and broadcasted the same week!
8:56 there's a pike in the corner of the screen
+Jayden Macias at 2:10 there is one as well, guess the perch are not afraid
Great observation. Undrewater viewing systems by Marcum are awesome for this kind of stuff.
InDepthOutdoorsTV What line are you using? What reel too?
Matt, sorry for the late response!
8:56 what was that fish?
Fishing for crappie, minnow head or whole minnow, small??
Under a bobber go with a whole minnow obviously. Just a minnow head when tipping a spoon, etc.
For sure thank you 🙂
If memory serves the limit is 20.
Is this alberta devils lake?
That's what I was wondering too. But no sadly, it's Devils Lake, North Dakota
Brandon Guthrie North Dakota's Devil's Lake
what kind of pills are you on? ;) I have never seen such HUGE perch. Awesome man
The Vx1 Pro is a fantastic unit that won't break the bank. You get all the needed features like Interference Rejection, Bottom Zoom, battery, charger and softpack for a very good price. It would make a great "starter" unit.
did anyone else see that pike?
hi i am only 13 years old and i love to ice fish but not to good and it would be my dream to ice fish with u i have seen all you ice fishing vidoes and i would love to ice fish with u
0:32
Do a pike vid
hey Xhmongx09 why do you disbelief i catch those big jumbos all the time i live in devils lake and fish them i see those big ones all the time when i fish
Hey Rodney, headed out that way mid- March. Mind sharing a hotspot or any info? Thanks
Why do people think they need cameras and fish finders to catch fish. I fish Devils Lake and the DL basin every year, and do very good. Are Big game hunters allowed to use inferred cameras to find their game?
The use of cameras and electronics take the fun out of fishing.
This guy has never caught a Steelhead or Albacore!
pike
Everyone should let the bigger fish go to reproduce
NOPE!
You said on the first fish, "if this is a perch its a big one" You just watched it bite??? Little fraud going on perhaps?
Iam so sick of catching pike!!!!
