OMG my whole family still play Heroes 3 on a weekly basis after all these years. I've even gotten friends and neighbours into it, and they've become obsessive fans of the game as well.
I do think it's coming to retail, or at least through Archon Studios. I think they mentioned that new expansions will be retail instead of Kickstarter, for example.
I'm very leery about using any music that's not explicitly royalty-free in my videos. I do absolutely adore that HoMM3 soundtrack tho (HoMM2 is great too!).
IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYTHING STAYED TRUE TO THE GAMES. THEY DID NOT CHANGE THE ARTISTIC CONCEPTION. IT WAS VERY GOOD.

It comes to retail this summe, starting with the core game. But Stretch goals with the Tower expansion won't be sold in retail.
