- In this solo travel day vlog, I fly with Virgin Atlantic in Upper Class from London Heathrow, UK and check-in to Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House. This trip to Walt Disney World in Florida covers my First Welcome Home as a Disney Vacation Club Member (DVC) and my first solo trip in a while.

DISNEY TRAVEL DAY VLOG OVERVIEW
It's Travel Day! By far the best day of any trip. In this solo vlog series I'll be travelling to Walt Disney World in Florida for my First Welcome Home as a DVC Member. I'm flying with Virgin Atlantic and in Upper Class too! I'm staying at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House, in a Deluxe Studio (standard view). For those Gary C fans out there, fear not, he will be making a comeback on a trip we've planned for later this year.
My travel day starts out by packing up the car and driving to London Heathrow Terminal 5. There I utilise Meet & Greet parking in the Terminal 5 Short-Stay car park. My pre-travel day airport hotel is the Sofitel at Terminal 5. There I give you a room tour of my Deluxe King Room, as well as dine at their table service restaurant: Vivre. Also during my pre-travel day, I pop over to Terminal 5 for my pre-departure anitgen test for entry to the United States of America. This service was booked through Express Test and cost £35.00. I'd recommend it for sure. Very convenient if you're staying at the airport the night before your flight.
In the morning, I get a car from the Sofitel over to Virgin Atlantic's Upper Class wing at Heathrow Terminal 3. In order to utilise this check-in wing, you must be dropped off and be flying in Upper Class. There I was able to check-in with my FlyReady status, drop my bags and pass through a private security lane which was incredible! Once in the departures lounge, I picked up some bits for the flight from WHSmith and Boots. I then proceeded to the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse (their upper class lounge).
In this lounge they had a deli, Peloton bikes, a pool table, roof-top garden, showers, toilets, an extensive bar, both table and lounge seating, as well as a selection of newspapers/magazines. All the staff were incredibly friendly! It was by far the best departure lounge I've ever experienced! On board the flight I was seated in 1A, in Virgin Atlantic's former Upper Class configuration (they have since updated their layout and seat design for the new A350 aircraft). During the flight, the cabin crew went out of their way to ensure I was well fed and watered, as well as offering friendly customer service throughout. Honestly, the cabin crew are what make Virgin Atlantic my favoruite airline. The meal was out of this world with a Vegan Curry Pie. Whilst the flight was very bumpy due to turbulence, overall it was an amazing experience.
Upon arriving in Orlando, I get a picture infront of the Magic of Disney store before making my way down to the Mears Connect coach terminal. In this vlog, I give you a full review of Mears Connect. Since Disney's Magical Express has since been discontinued, this is the most comparable service. It's in the same location and Mears Connect Standard Service is currently priced at $16.00 per adult each way.
At Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House, I check-in as a DVC Member and head to my Deluxe Studio (standard view). Here I give you a full room tour of the studio, as well as a look at my partial Savannah View I was lucky enough to get upon request. I also pop to the lodge's quick service location: The Mara for dinner, before widning down after a long solo travel day. This may be weird, but I love these first day travel vlogs almost more than the park day vlogs. I just love seeing Adam's enthusiasm and the anticipation of the trip. Plus planes are cool 😂

Yes. Agree. My fave of Adam’s was when he went to dland years ago. He was so tired but excited when he got to Anaheim. I think the anticipation and planning is almost half the fun. But I don’t mean the excruciating, hours on hold parts!

You taking a picture of your room number is very me! One thing people don’t get when you travel solo is there’s actually a lot to keep track of when you have no back up! Lovely start!!!!!!
As a single person can I just say thank you for this! It’s very empowering to watch someone else solo travel.
I read recently that if you can go to a restaurant and a movie by yourself you can do anything. Speaks to how anxiety ridden it is for us to do those things alone!
I think I understand what you mean, how this seems so far from reality for a lot of those who struggle with their mental health. But remember Adam has anxiety too! Anything is possible if you find some ways to work with it!

I've never had a problem with it, I find the people who have a problem with it are the other people in the restaurant ..... Is it just you sir? ........ etc. I take my book, order and have a great time :)
I looked it up. That Savanah view room is $750 a night next month.

For that kind of scratch, you should be able to hand feed the giraffes from your terrace!
And I think the missing Mears feature is that they DON'T deliver your bags to your room. And that can be a welcome service to groups and families!
As someone who has been solo for most of my life it’s always nice to see folk adventuring alone.. reassures me I could do it. Awesome blog Adam.
A cruise, especially a Disney cruise, but ultimately any cruise is a great way to travel alone. I’ve already told my husband I will cruise alone when I’m a widow. It’s such a friendly way to travel. We’ve met lots of lovely solo travellers over our years cruising.
I think when Gary can’t make the trip, you need a special video with Gary doing a voiceover of your trip, particularly critiquing your pin shopping experience.
I got myself comfortable going out to restaurants and movies alone before I got in a relationship and I loved it, sometimes I still go alone because I find it helps me think about myself.

Thanks for being so open about where your anxiety hits travelling alone - it is a huge help for those of us who cope with that anxiety by visualising things first!
It was so nice to 'join' you on your travel day, Adam! I also prefer going to Disney with someone, but after two solo trips, I think I've found my groove, so to speak. For me, the secret is not trying to replicate the trip I'd take with my son (who is my usual travel partner), but to seek out those experiences that are exactly what I want to do. My last solo trip was amazing because of it!

💪🏻, I was only thinking Friday how rubbish this weekend was going to be without watching your vlogs. Then behold I saw this today, I’m so exited. Me and my family really enjoy all of your content and so happy we are so happy that you have managed to go again and bring up more.
P.s we are going in august we are so exited I haven’t been since 2005 👌🏻 and to be able to take my family to the excitement for the very first time is going to be amazing. We haven’t booked tests just yet as we are hoping thet they are stopped my end of March but you never know x might book for these ones at the airport as it seems easier essentially with three kids

Getting the notification that you uploaded is literally one of my favorite things.
I frequently eat out alone. I always bring a book and folding bookstand or a Kindle with a case that can stand it up for reading. I get to enjoy a nice meal and a good book. Occasionally someone will stop by my table to ask where I got my bookstand.
Glad you were able to come back so soon. We will miss Gary C but a solo perspective is always fun!
As someone who HATES flying. It would be really interesting to hear you talk about what it is you love about flying, what makes you feel safe etc. And then maybe also getting Gary’s perspective as I know he can struggle with flying but has recently found it a bit more comfortable. Even if it was just a portion of your next travel day. Loved the video as usual :)

THis is so uplifting. We are leaving for a trip in 1 week. I'm trying to get excited for it, but we've had well lots of things go wrong. So to see your excitement is helping me get into the mood as it should be for this Spring Break. That Mears Connect part is so helpful especially to know that you don't have to have a reservation for it. That view outside your room is incredible!!!! Oh, there's only 2 giraffes outside. :)

I have done a few solo Disney trips and it is relaxing and nice. Also with solo dining, I do it a bit, take a book or watch TH-cam videos and you will forget the world, I can totally understand how daunting it is, but the more you do it, it gets easier!
It’s so funny when I did my last solo WDW trip, I love saying hello to cast members and having a bit of a chat and I kept getting asked if I worked there and I kept saying “no but I wish!” 😊. 💖
