CANCELED! Missing Third Attraction At Galaxy’s Edge Explained

  • Star Wars Galaxy's Edge was a large-scale project that went over budget, resulting in the cancellation of some planned features. One of these features was a third attraction, which surprisingly according to Imagineer Jim Shull, could still be added to the land. Hey, Brickey investigated this proposal and found some possible clues that helped solve some of the mysteries of Galaxy's Edge. Based on this investigation, Hey Brickey developed a unique theory about how this attraction would have worked, where it would have been located, and how it may have been responsible for some of the subtle differences between Disney Hollywood Studios and Disneyland.

It's such a bummer they don't use that upper area even for shows. Being able to see lightsabre battles would be so cool

Would be neat to see Resistance troops running from Stormtroopers, residents of Batuu moving boxes on those floating platforms they use in SW (maybe the bottom would be hidden from the perspective, it could 'break down' and drop lower, then they could fix it and it'll start floating up again, etc), or Mando pushing bounties across that walkway.

Have you seen the Ordinary Adventures vid titled “Lightsaber battles & flying x-wings at galaxy’s Edge” ? Peter attended & filmed the media event for the launch of Rise of the Resistance @ DW which included what was no doubt the precursor to Rey & Kylo duel @ Starcruiser, X-Wing drones, & a fireworks show @ the end. As you say, why this isn’t a part of Galaxy’s edge on at least some sort of revolving basis (even just SW Nights / May 4th for starters) is beyond me.

@@dkarras My guess for why they didn't put a show of any kind there is because both Bobs are/were cheap and live entertainment is expensive. So not putting any sort of regular live entertainment there saves money. There might have also been concern about congestion. I've only been to Galaxy's Edge once and that was years ago so I don't remember how much space there by the "stage" area but they might have felt that based on how it was during the one or few times they had a show up there that the area might not be big enough to handle lots of people just standing around there watching the show and might create congestion around that area. But that's just a guess and is not based on aotid evidence.

      Youre not thinking big enough.
Imagine at night, you look up to see ships moving overhead, invisibly held up by drones, illuminated by UV blacklights, and using forced perspective to appear larger than they really are.
Even better, you might catch a dogfight between X_Wing and TIE Fighters, with a thin layer of smoke in the air to allow one to see laser fire.

This is genius analysis. Disney truly needs a change in leadership that purges the cheapskates. Disney needs to spend the money to WOW people. If they built WOW attractions then they could charge whatever they wanted to get into the parks. Current executives have the mindset that they can be as cheap as possible and still charge whatever they want. That’s why they are in such problems now.

Disney delaying the implementation of the ride comes down to simple economics - in about 10 years after release, visitors and interest in Galaxy's Edge wanes and they start to lose profitability on the region. You need new rides and fresh things to keep interest up. Disney, for the first time, has intentionally designed-in upgradability and expansion into a part of the park. They didn't cut the ride or leave it out, they're just not ready to install it yet. The Star Wars Wedway People Mover will be installed eventually.

IMO they should have themed the section after all three trilogies. The side closest to fantasyland is prequel era, you get to the falcon and the shops, it's OG trilogy, you get past the shops, to rise, and it's sequel trilogy. They keep mindful of sight lines so you never see two characters interacting from the wrong eras, and then characters from any time could show in the park. Employees tell a story about black spires that feels so timeless that it doesn't really need to be specific to any trilogy.

What I REALLY can’t understand is how they can leave the back side of this land completely exposed, being able to see the nuts and bolts of it from Manchester Ave/Disneyland Drive when you exit the 5 freeway! It’s nuts! A wall or barrier there would be (what I would think) so easy!

Yeah it’s odd how they left the metal supports and everything exposed. Also I’m disappointed they canceled the original e ticket quinjet ride they promised us for California adventure.
The avengers multiverse ride (that replaced the quinjet ride plans) seems like it’ll either suck or be decent. But for some reason Disney hasn’t started construction on it yet. I worry they may cancel it again or won’t build it until like 2045 😂

While I like the idea of this ride, I think it needs to be more visible than how you've described it. If the goal is to add more kinetic energy to Batuu, why hide it behind trees? I suggest keeping it visible for most of it's path for both the additional kinetic energy of the land but also for the riders as while seeing the backside of trees is nice, seeing Batuu from angles you can't normally see would be the benefit of the ride.

I’m a huge Star Wars fan (OG OT fan) I vote to get rid of all of it and turn it back into the big thunder ranch. Bring back the petting zoo and BBQ! Disney has been an utter disappointment with Star Wars and the paying customers hate the Rey timeline. That would be my vote.

6/8 people per creature, and big long track like this you could probably have 15 creatures going at once. That would be 120 folks at once, if ride time is 15 minutes that could be about 500 per hour. So not a ton but that’s all a real basic guess. Could be as much as a 1,000 if you could double vehicles. Would be very popular.

Lastly it would be awesome to hear your thoughts and speculations on what the avengers multiverse ride will be like (the replacement for the quinjet ride)x and what ride system it may use. @@HeyBrickey double or triple the ride vehicles. Instead of just one walking at a time, it's two or three (think of like two mules or three camels tied together in single file). That doubles or triples capacity. Then you add a section where a bantha is "spooked" by some probe droid or wild animal and it speeds along for a section to cut down ride time? Either way, I'd love to see this. Great work!

@@dayoldbread1696 Don't worry about the DCA Avenger's Campus E-ticket, Disney has 'work shopped' the 'blue sky' and produced 'concept art'. Disney has 'committed' to a large investment across all of the various physical environmental interactive points to enhance the guest magical experience. Over the next decade these concerns will be addressed throughout the numerous cast member guest interactions through the immersive storytelling moments at D23 and other conventions. Sounds very Disney talking point style conversation, right?

This will never happen either tho since current Disney execs have their heads so far up their arses that all they know is to give us Bantha poodoo and think we're gonna remain happy with it.

Oh my goodness brickey!!! I cant tell you how sad iam this never got built! This is exactly what this land is missing. How do the disney heads not understand how important kinetic energy is ESPECIALLY in a newly created land. Yesterday i got to thinking about what the great movie ride could of become. Imagine retheming it to all the old disney animated classics! Rescuers, lady tramp, fox hound, 101 dalmatians, robin hood, etc etc. Each movie could have its own scene! How satisfying does that sound?!? It would make so many people sooooooo happy. Instead they made this out of touch cardboard mickey ride that has nothing to do with classic mickey mouse. Then, they go and re create this mess in disneyland!! Imagineering is so out of touch. Not saying its a bad ride, it just misses the mark on so many levels. Maybe you could do a video on this. What one of the greatest disney rides ever built could of become! You and I need to be on the board of imagineering.

Be that as it may, I did manage to get her to go on a recent trip to CA, because I really wanted to see Galaxy's Edge. But more likely her bestie who still lives in Anaheim wanted to see it.
