Best knives ever!
Asking y'all to please pray for our daughter-in-law. She's pregnant with our granddaughter and is having a few health hiccups. She's due in August. Thank you in advance. God Bless
Remembering her and the baby 🙏
I will pray for your daughter-in-law and little granddaughter.
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel thank you, Aunt Mel. Laressa is our daughter-in-law and Letty Roselynn Alma Trumble is our granddaughter. Just incase you want their names. I like to pray for people by name.
@@mississippigirl thank you. We appreciate all the prayers.
Mrs. Trumble, I will pray for your daughter-in-law and the baby. Wishing nothing but blessings for y'all.
"Your chickens not getting baptised, its getting sprinkled" made me chuckle!
My husband was the opposite, he wanted a plate of tomato with cottage cheese and that was his salad! Our weather is getting hot here so these are perfect for this week and next! TY
Man, I love your “Southern” accents!!!! Hubby is cute regarding his dislike of tomatoes!!!!’
Re: Keeping green onions fresh longer. Since I always use my green onions sliced anyway, the best way I have found is to quickly wash fresh ones, dry and immediately slice them. If preferred separate the green tops from the white part, & place them in snack size zip bags, Tuck a small piece of damp paper towel inside, press out all air & seal tightly. They will keep for at least a couple of weeks + this way. They are always ‘ready to go! Use to garnish a casserole, salad, baked potato or tacos etc.
I’m glad I came to the comment section, I was just wondering about this. I order my groceries for delivery and I’m really working to make sure everything lasts until the next order lol.
how cool is this..... I just finished eating my salad and then sat down to watch this video. My salad was a cracker salad!! haha I had never heard of it until I saw Paula Deen make one. I make mine with tomatoes, bacon bits, sharp cheddar, mayo and the crackers. It is the best thing ever!!!! Anyone thinking it's not just needs to try it! You can start with tomatoes, mayo and crackers and just add whatever you want !
A tip to see if the avocado is ripe at the store: pull the little plug off the one end, if it's green, it's ripe! 😊
I make a southwest chicken salad. Romaine, diced peppers, corn, black beans and chicken. I make my own dressing by adding bbq sauce to ranch dressing. Top salad with tortilla salad strips. So good.
It is so nice to see a face behind the voice thank you
Thats why i love salads you can make them so many ways
I love Summer salads, that get u full
I love watching your videos. I grew up in Claiborne County and now live in Western North Carolina. So many of the memories you have about food remind me of growing up.
Lol. Patrick taking the tomatoes off the first salad. Too funny.
He's a mess 🤣😂❤️
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel he knows what he likes and doesn't like.
@mrs.almatrumble4143 yes, he does 😂
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel I'm that way with lettuce after I tell someone no lettuce. It's one of the many foods I can't eat due to my Crohn's.
I absolutely Love my Rada knives, and believe me, in my Long Long Life, I have owned Henkels, Cutco, Victorinex, Japanese, Chinese, etc.! And by far, for the Price, these Rada knives stay sharp ( although they come with a little hand sharpener that works well!), and are Perfect! I’m getting ready to move to a Senior Retirement Community, and these are the ones I’m taking! Kids, Come Get the Rest!😊😊😊😊
I feel the same way about my Rada! I've got just about every knife and tool they make and they've held up for YEARS! And good luck on your move, enjoy relaxing and let someone else do the work for a while 😊
I love my Rada knives
Me too, they last for years!
Patrick reminds me of my hubby. He hates tomatoes and avocados. I love salads and could eat them multiple times a week.
You guys sound like us LOL
Wonder if Patrick found the avocado in his salad 😅..
I make what we call Summer Salad. It is thinly sliced cucumber, bell peppers, Vidalia onion and tomatoes. I then make a dressing with white vinegar, waters sugar, salt and pepper. I heat the water and melt the sugar, then add the vinegar. I make a big bowl because it last several days.
2 to 3 cucumbers
2 to 3 peppers
1 large onion
Several tomatoes.
Dressing is 1 cup water
1/2 to 1 cups sugar
1.5 cups vinegar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
We eat this as a side dish and as a snack. We love salads of all types. I am an ambassador for Taste of Home Magazine and have had several salads published. A KFC Copycat Cole Slaw, a Grilled Potato and Corn Salad, A Thai Salad with Cilantro Lime Dressing. In the Aug/Sept Edition I have great Pork Chop, Pineapple and Soy Recipe in a Quick and Easy Recipe. They are featuring me with a story in the Edition too. I won $500 from their Recipe Contest for the recipe. I promise it's a good one.
What issue of taste of home Congratulations. Your cucumber and salad dressing recipes look fabulous. You are a super star❤❤
I love this lady, chicken not getting baptized, just getting sprinkle.
🤣❤️
Hey Mel,hope y'all are having a wonderful Memorial weekend!
We are hoping to have a nice relaxing Monday LOL Hope you and your family have a great long holiday weekend too! Love you!
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel Thank you Mel
I had to laugh, my DH would take the onion off and probably put it on MY plate!! And cornbread salad, nothin better. It's fun to see how many variations there are 🙂
LOL They are so funny! And I love all the cornbread salads too!
That first salad LOL. It was so sweet and funny watching you put together the salad for Patrick. I was sad when he took the tomatoes off! I used to be exactly that way, but now I go out of my way to put tomato on things (it's got to be chopped very small though!). But yeah, it needed some ranch and he got that taken care of.
My husband is the same with most veggies. Such a baby. That cornbread salad is very unique to me. I will have to try that.
Hope you love it, it really is such a great dinner. And I ate the last of it with some of that chicken I baked up cut up over the top of it - SO GOOD!
I was lucky that my late husband wasn’t picky.😉 I was excited about this salad video. Thanks Mel!😁❤️
Thank you for watching
You do what I used to do before a teacher at a cooking class brought it to my attention. When I sliced something, the knife would go through the food and hit the cutting board (which is okay) but then I would drag the knife towards me along the cutting board, in essence cutting up the board and dulling the knife AFTER the food was already cut. The teacher told me to learn to cut DOWN and then stop and not drag the knife afterwards. Thanks for your video (and the memory of that lesson)!
Rada knives are great. Don't put them in the dishwasher because it discolors the handles. They're a wonderful southern knife. Thank you for this wonderful video.
Hi mel.i eat a lot of chicken these recipes are going to be great❤
yes they will be, I even ate some of my chicken on the cornbread salad, so good!
Lol, don't give that man anymore tomatoes! You know good and well!!! Love it!
I really do, but even after 30+ years I still think every now and again we should give things another try 🤣
These look so good! Since you love salad one of my favorites I copied from a restaurant I used to go to. On a bed of lettuce put a sliced chicken breast that’s cooked with teriyaki sauce, slivered almonds, mandarin oranges and cheese. They served it with poppyseed dressing but I’ve started loving sweet onion vinaigrette.
Sounds delicious…going to try it.
Sam’s club carried a Vidalia Onion Vinaigrette that was so good.
So sad they have all closed down in my state. I tried to find at Walmart but they don’t carry it. Have looked at other grocery stores as well. If you have a Sam’s club I definitely recommend this dressing.
Hi Mel, aa one of your followers in the UK I would love to see another grocery haul. I find it fascinating how much more variety and scope you have in your stores than we do. Cans of cooked chicken breast and bags of bacon bits for example. such a time saver = we don't have those. I have also acquired a couple of things you use I had never seen before - that 'meat masher' which I now use all the time plus those clip stands for baggies. Thanks for the great ideas and tips and for being so lovely. God bless you all xxx
Thank you so much for watching and commenting and I will be doing some more grocery hauls this summer! And I am so glad that you are enjoying your new "toys" LOL It's funny how something so simple can make the job so much easier and enjoyable!
I love grocery hauls too. I have a family of 8 so people are always so fansinated by what I get. Lol
I only use non GMO products but this gives me lots of ideas. Corn bread from scratch from a local mill.
Hey hey friend 🥰🥰🥰. I love me some salads!!!
yes, and I am ready for all the summer foods!
Wow, girl! These recipes all look delicious! Woo Hoo for summer salad recipes!🙌🥗🫶🏼
I LOVE salads and I love making all different kinds, I am ready for all of them too!
Looks like a good salad! And dang who doesn't love avocado!
Mel, leaving the skin on the cucumber helps with digestion. It is loaded with antioxidants plus a ton more benefits. Hugs Kate ❤
For keeping green onions fresher longer: I found a tall plastic pitcher with removable lid with a pour spout. Wash the onions well, trim the roots short, don't cut off, then chop off the tops of the green part so that the onions will fit the pitcher. Add fresh water to about half full and put the lid on. Keep in the fridge. You may have to change the water every other day or so, but my onions last quite a while with this method.
Mel
Over the top video. I love salad. I could eat it every day. My husband not so much but he will eat it every once and a while. I loved the variety and all the colors.. never had cracker salad but can not wait to try it. Love these light foods. Do your girls cook? I see your baby girl is getting married. Many blessings to you and your family.
Thank you so much, I told my husband that I felt like this should be called my Summer Spectacular Salad video LOL He said, Nah LOL But I do love salads too! My girls do like to piddle around in the kitchen and are pretty good. And yes, we will be adding that sweet Ryan to the bunch for good this fall! He's a keeper for sure! Thanks so much for being here and always being so supportive! I appreciate you!
That salad looks great!! I love your comments. You have a great sense of humor.
LOL Thank you, I love to laugh
Radda knives are wonderful additions in any kitchen!
So glad you shop at Trader Joe's. Our closest one is 35 miles from home but I make a weekly or bi-weekly haul.
I’d be picking the tomato off the first salad too - trying to hide things made me laugh 😂 I love everything else on there though!
Girl, these can be made however YOU like them, just ask Patrick LOL
I have several Rada utensils and knives. I absolutely love them. My paring knife I’ve had over 10 yrs and still is as sharp as the day I bought it.
Thank you so much for your videos! I feel like I'm in the kitchen with my momma and that's amazing because now she has dementia and we can never cook together again I feel like I have my mother back :)
Am not a salad person but these salads look yummy. These salads are a keeper for potlucks. New sub here.
Salads can be yummy, right 🤣 Thanks so much for watching and subscribing, I'm so happy that you're here!
Rada is the best. Nothing beats their peeler
I agree, I have just about every item they make and I love em and have used them for years! And that peeler is the best, it peels both ways, toward you and away from you, so helpful!
I found a way to store lettuce from another cook, don't wash your lettuces but wrap them in aluminum foil. It keeps very very well, then when I need lettuce, I just ta,e off what I need, then wash them. I found I have had less waste
😂😂😂
Were not baptizing the chicken, just sprinkling it!
I had to pause the video because I was laughing and throughout the video I couldn’t get that comment out of my head.😂
I have never met a person that doesn't like tomatoes! LOL So excited, I have the Auntie No No's seasoning. I will totally have to try making my chicken like you did.
I love to crunch up Ritz crackers and put them on my regular salads--they make salads delicious!...dts/usa
Trader joes 21 seasoning is the 💣
I inherited my mom’s Rada knives and still use them at age 57. I’m going to a wedding soon. What a great reminder of how good a wedding gift they are, thanks!
Great video! Big salads are my love language also 💓
HaHaHa...he took off the tomatoes.. I can respect that. Honey, you gotta hide the 'maters so it can accidentally get in a bite under the lettuce. I can't wait to try these salads. I'd love to see more of these kinds of salads that don't suck. Peace and love. Have a great day.
Oh, and that 1st salad! Love love love!
Thanks! 😊
You make your salads pretty. With your avocado pit, bang it and twist with your knife. If you kind of squeeze the skin, the green part should come out.
I bought a few of those knives over 20 years ago.
The tomato knife as I call it, the small serrated knife, is my all time favorite and I have never had to sharpen it.
Truly the best knife I've ever bought.
I also bought the clever and chopped so many chickens up with it and never had to sharpen it.
They are the best 👌 and the price point is perfect 🥰
My husband grows onions and we can keep green onions for two weeks with about 1/2 cup water in a clean rotisserie chicken container! Lay the onions over in and the water and store in the fridge! So crisp!!
Awesome tip, thank you so much!
Wonderful idea, thank u so much!!
Hi mel im with your hubby i dont like tomatoes too lol the salads looked great gave a good holiday and week ❤😊
We all like what we like, I just like to have him try something every once in a while, his tastes might change LOL
@In The Kitchen With Momma Mel he was funny I get it I do try things lol 😆it's funny I eat salsas and cooked tomatoes just don't like them fresh lol
I am kinda the same with tomatoes but the last year I've really got to liking them in salads 😋 Who knew...
@In The Kitchen With Momma Mel yeah tastes changes I like things now I would never eat several years ago lol 😆 so it's possible right
I have Rada knives in my kitchen. I love them.
Awesome, they are just the best around, last forever!
Laughed when your husband said, "well, you know good-n-well." ! The salads look delish!
I might not pick out the tomatoes but they would likely still be on the plate when i finished eating all the rest. LOL! I also would have put more dressing on. :P
Lol! I never really fuss or try and make anyone eat something they don't like but I will encourage them to try it again every once and awhile 😂
@@InTheKitchenWithMommaMel I actually “accidentally” ate some avocado a few weeks ago and found I liked it so your plan to encourage people to try thing is smart.
Me too! I didn’t like avocado until I had it on this salad at a restaurant the other day 😂 Now I'm eating it up ❤️
I love Onions, among a lot of other raw veggies, we grew up with a semi-big garden. Til this day I have to have a good decent leafy salad.
My Ingles has those tiny tomatoes alot of times I love them I'm bad about putting salt on them popping them in my mouth
LOL I'm lucky - I don't like salt on my tomatoes or cucumbers
Dear Lord,
Please bless this family and this precious baby. Bring her through to the due date. No matter what the situation I know You have Your loving hands hands upon them all. Amen
Now that 1st salad looked so delicious! I can't wait to try them all! ❤
Absolutely beautiful! My mouth is watering!❤😊
Thank you, I love salads and they get such a bad rap 🤣
That cracker salad is so interesting…except for the tomatoes. LOL!
LOL I wish had a sub for the tomato in it but - gosh I just don't know what it would be LOL
If you just push up on the skin up under where the seed is, it’ll pop right out. Then you don’t have to hit it with your knife. ❤ just found your channel. Currently binge watching all the videos 😂
I’m with Patrick! I don’t like tomatoes either. Even a few tomatoes is too many for me (and apparently Patrick too!) 😂 All these salads look delicious!
the bbq sauce is so good because of the tomatoes!
Sending prayers. God bless all of you ❤
I am not a fan of tomatoes but once you try home grown sun sugar ones you will love them. They taste like cherries so sweet.
I agree with him, I would take the tomatoes off too.
I usually leave everything separate and put it together on plates so leftover lettuce doesn't get soggy
I feel about peppers like your hubby feels about tomatoes! 😠Yuck! 😝 So I always skip peppers whenever making some recipes. 😸👵
Suggestion... I use a plastic lettuce knife instead of metal knife to slice lettuce. Using a metal knife will cause the lettuce to brown faster. Of course if you eat your lettuce fast before it browns then I guess you don't need it 😊
We must go thru it quick, I've never had that happen LOL
I never knew that one, thank u so much!!
I was just about to comment that about the knife and brown lettuce.. I have read and watched different shows and chefs state that. It’s a great tip. I also put paper towel in my lettuce bag. No more brown lettuce and both tips keep the lettuce fresh longer in my opinion. Great video Mel!
Great idea thanks also wrap left over lettuce in aluminum foil; it will last so .uch longer👍
We love Rada! My son has been a reseller for years.❤
Stickage😂😂❤❤
Cheap pans from the dollar tree 😂
You crack me up!!!
😂❤️ I love to laugh
I enjoy trying new recipes i also try them 3 times depending on the dish.
I love your channel Mel❤️between you, Becky at The Hillbilly Kitchen and Julia Pacheco you’ve got me covered. My kids tell me I’m a better cook now. God Bless You🙏🏻❤️😘
I love the RADA paring knives.
Me too, had mine for years and use them for everything!
My Grandpa grew up on the farm in Kansas and he would sprinkle salt in the bowl of his spoon to dip his green onions in I just love my salad spinner!! I spin just about EVERYTHING!!
Everything looks Delicious! I had to laugh at Patrick! I😂🤣 Have A Great Weekend 💕💕
Hahaha I love his response. My Hubby is the same way. If I cut the tomatoes super super small he will just eat them. Men, their just like bigger kids hahaha
Georgia cracker salad is so delish!
You and your hubby are SO cute together. I love Rada knives too and I have one of their knife sharpeners that is fantastic.
LOL, thank you. He's a good one, I just like to encourage him to try things again every so often, his tastes might have changed LOL. And I love my Rada knives too, I have the sharpener too and it keeps them just like new! Thanks so much for being here!
Lol. He's so cute. He wanted dressing with a little bit of salad and NO tomatoes.
Cut the base off the romaine ! Plant it in dirt. Leave the top exposed water watch it grow! Celery cabbage so much we can grow from stalks👍
Hi Angel girl Mel, God bless you and your family 😂 Have a blessed evening 🌆❤️💞💕
Hi Erica, hope you have a wonderful week, too friend!
You are So Sweet and you make me laugh 😂 Love to you and thank you for your yummy recipes!
I am so glad to see you washing and spinning your lettuce! I cringe when I see someone just open and use salad mixes WIthOUT washing it. Your salads look amazing. I will be trying some soon. They are perfect for our hot summers!
Looks so delicious! I am a Salad lover!
I just love your honesty ❤ It's a a breath of fresh air to listen to you talk as you prepare! My husband & I are empty nesters as well. And I have a challenge to prepare meals for the two of us. So you've had some interesting recipes I've tried & of course tweaked just a bit to get Allen to like it. 😆
Thanks!
Tip for keeping green onions going. When you use onions, cut off to about 1" above roots. take those roots and put in small shallow jar. (like a small jelly jar) Cover with water to about 1" above roots or more. Change water about once a week with fresh water. Add more bottoms as you use them. I place in fridge in back. They will grow back. I always have green onion as I need them. Never run out when I need for recipe.
I love watching your videos from Philadelphia
All the salads look delicious! I’ve never tried strawberries or fruit of any kind in a chicken salad.
I inherited my granny's knives. She worked foe public school cafeteria her entire working career until having to take a forced retirement at 73 and bought her Rada knives forks and choppers through the school. These salads look great and I am looking forward to summer. Great kickoff recipes. TFS!
Mel, everything you make just looks delicious!
Awh, thank you so much! 😊 I think salads are so pretty, too. And kinda like a blank canvas to turn into whatever you want.
Happy Sunday evening, Mel! I started using Auntie NoNo seasonings because of you, and we love how it flavors food. I wish I had a serving (or two) of that cornbread salad. I appreciate your tips, your recipes, and your kindness. Have a blessed week!
I'm so glad you are enjoying the Auntie Nonos, it so good and I feel like it saves me time and money - all my favorites seasonings in one bottle! And I wish I could have shared that cornbread salad with you, it was so good! Have a great week friend!
Where to buy Aunties No no sprinkle does it have salt in it
Yum! Thanks for the great looking salad ideas!
You are so very welcome, enjoy them all summer!
My favorite knives. Love them and so easy to sharpen.
Yes! I use them every single day. Thanks so much for watching 😊
