After reading the manga series tho I kinda hate how they whitewashed half the characters and didn’t address how elitist and inaccessible the “world of wine” is to the rest of the literal world. My takeaway from the book is that wine is a substance that connects us to the earth, memories, and other people - regardless of the price. The show gets at this a little but would really have appreciated a full Japanese POV on this topic rather than France hogging the “winelight” LOL
This was an incredible tv show! It’s a sin that not a lot of people seem to know about this show. I got my friends who were vacationing here in Hawaii to literally become addicted to it.
I can never understand why American studios choose to chance the fundamental characteristics of foreign works of art for their own gain. To that end, the original source material is superior, in every way, to this American adaptation.
Thank you for this review. I binge watched the whole thing last night. I absolutely loved it. There were times when I had to change the audio to English AD. It described e'ver're'thing but I needed it. There were times when I just relied on the closed caption, but I laughed when I they starting speaking English and I didn't realize that they were speaking English 😂😂😂. I drank wine while watching and didn't like it because I didn't see color, fruit or sounds. Just joking of course. It wasn't a really good one. I do want to try a bottle of good wine now.
I'm about to become the most insufferable wine-drinker after watching this show. Catching me saying 'céleri' and 'réglisse' anytime I get a glass
