Knockout Kings 2000 review on the nintendo 64. Recorded using a dazzle and on original real console hardware and game cartridge.
Forgot to mention how it ravages your joystick on the N64 controller when you have to get up. My favorite was Iron Mike.
Ultimate nostalgia. I remember playing this over a decade ago.
Does this use the same engine as WCW Mayhem/.Backstage Assault?
I don't think so. It doesn't really have free movement like a wrestling game, you're always locked on to your opponent. It didn't play like a wrestling game at all, so I don't think so.
***** not that i am aware of, but that was one awful engine so id be amazed if it was but its not out of the question
RIP to the Champ.
game looks fun even if graphics are not good which is normal for such an old game. i like more simulations than arcade games. this game seems in the middle so its nice. the career mode is great and customizations too. i just wish there was more special stuff like pre fight press conference and such just for fun. my favorite boxer from my hometown was adonis superman stevenson but got badly injured and is no longer boxing. he almost died after a fight. its a very tough sport.
The boxing glove icons in the top left and right of the HUD look like angry, red dinosaur faces to me, so at first I was thinking this game was going to be a lot more cartoony/arcadey. After that disappointing realization, the game doesn't look too bad lol
Another awesome review bud. I always thought of this game as a bit of a hidden gem on the n64. I still enjoy it to this day
64BitMatthew I'm glad I'm not the only one who digs it!
Fight night round 3 best boxing game ever imo
Naw frfr thats facts most realistic
This was my original favorite boxing game
Good old days
How do you perform the special punch when boxing glove on the left flashing? Trying all to do it.
Como se utiliza el golpe de la barra que se llena ?
This game came out when boxing was still mega popular and had all the popular fighters with the exception of Felix Trinidad
i say boxing games are sports games with charm. I don't know any boxers to be honest. i did enjoy this game with my cousins back then. Rocky on the gamecube was my fave boxing game i always played as mickey
***** haha rocky! i had that on xbox but aside from the license i thought it was average
=D review harvest moon 64 and starcraft 64
I had this game as a kid and indeed it's a good game! It's feel realistic and you can do great combo's. Only bad things is the commentator and the fact that boxers go a little bit to fast knockout. Still I don't think it's that arcade. On later age I did some real boxing in the ring, I stopped after 1,5 year because I was really REALLY bad at it. Still the combo's, the way you need to cover, you can dive away and the fact you can't punch all the time because you will get tired really fast makes it really realistic. Fine review, love your videos !!!
Well, in regards to the question, "who is the champ?" the "champ" is always the undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World. In my eyes a few names come to mind. Muhammed Ali was the only man to come out of retirement twice to claim the title a total of three times. Joe Louis, "the Brown Bomber", held the title the longest, that duration being twelve years. Finally, Rocky Marciano was the only man to retire the Heavyweight Crown with zero losses, and a 90% knockout rating. Legend as it when Rocky knocked out Joe Louis to obtain the title he cried in the locker room and apologized to Louis for doing so, to which the Brown Bomber said, "The better man won." So, those are my three picks for greatest boxer of all time. Albeit, if we're taking middleweights, Joe Calzaghe always come to mind.
True story about Marciano crying in the locker room. Joe Louis was his hero.
@@Brbos06 I saw you get emotional once when mentioning your intensity when approaching the game. You stated, "That's how I play, if you don't play like that, then don't play like that". As a middle aged person who isn't interested in sports, I still found your passion to be very intriguing and it makes me want to understand so I can learn something important from it. Take care.
That's an incredible story. Thanks for sharing. I love it.
There are some great boxers missing from this game. Where is Mike Tyson?,Many say he was one of the best. He should be in there just to get a Tyson-Ali match-up.
At the time, ea had him banned. Same with fight night round 2 and 3.
Prime mike beats everyone else imo.
This was running at 500 frames per second on Latest Emulator....on VITA
maybe you are on PAL? there is less slowdown spikes as there is a slight permanent slowdown and smaller screen sze
Troyus yeah that could be it, although i was playing the NTSC version here to hmmm weird
I was looking for a good oldschool boxing game. The best I found was "Boxing Legends of the Ring" on the SNES. I never even knew this one existed - it seems pretty cool.
its not bad one at all really, still prefer ready to rumble as I prefer arcade sports games
I think traditionally that boxing based video games in general could be placed into the fighting games category but when Street Fighter and the host of imitation games came around boxing games fell more under athletic/sports games since those are based off a real sporting event one can learn the difference between a right hook and south paw. Meanwhile the closest you will get to shooting hadoukens is throwing molotov cocktails.
I feel that ready to rumble has better graphics and its more fun to play overall, also the sound on ready to rumble is alot better too....but at the end of the day i do remember magazines giving this game some pretty good reviews
A very good analysis of the style and all. This game does look quite nice, but I think just the tick of slowness to it is a bit more than I would normally pickup on for these sorts of games.
I do also wish to ask, why do you never use the game audio in the reviews, even when specifically talking about it? The distance of your reviews sometimes can be a bit offputting.
As for boxers, no idea. Ali is the only one I know the remotest history of.
AguyinaRPG ha well when i put it in people complain about too many audio layers and so when i don't do it people say they want it in...cant win! lol but also like a lot of you tubers I'm worried about getting strikes for copyright which has happened before on some games
Fair enough, but I think the music by itself is a bigger risk than otherwise. Regardless, they can do automatic copyright crap, so I wouldn't worry so hard especially with obscure N64 titles.
For the time period, I though this was a decent boxing game when I owned it way back when. It's fairly realistic but still easy to pick up. Modern boxing games have spoiled me and I couldn't really see this game providing much if I went back to it now.
I think the sports/fighting game classification really depends on the game. I'd say the more arcade style, the more I'd classify it as a fighting game. I think Knockout Kings 2000 sneaks its way into the sports category.
Had this game on the playstation. It was pretty fun, but memorize 3 or, 4 good combos and it's pretty easy to beat. You could also play as a gargoyle if you put in a cheat code, which was fun. Sugar Ray Robinson was probably the best boxer of all time.
maxrenn7 ha i don't know that cheat but ill have to look it up now!
Boxing games are fighting games no question. The greatest? Muhammad Ali!
except for punchout, which is more like a puzzle game than a fighting game.
Hey! You should take part in the video game years when the n64 comes up, will ya?
MrIEatDirt i certainly will be as I'm on the RW staff
I don't know if their the best of all time but I really like Micky Ward, Lennox Lewis, and Joe Frazer.
Ahhh Glenn, still fighting the good fight I see, getting all those N64 games reviewed. You won't stop till you've reviewed them all, will you? Glendust4eva
working my way through! gotta review em all!
Knockout Kings 2000 is a great Game, I played it a lot on the N64.
But in Germany or in the pal region it called BOX CHAMPIONS 2000. Great Video(s).
The best Boxer of all time is Floyd Mayweather junior.
Thank you, all the best.
Andre Eichstedt
Andre Eichstedt yeah. yeah. isn't he actually in the game too?
I wish man, I really do ;-)
never mind then. I know there is actual videos on the net with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the game. I guess he's not officially in the game then.
Yes, Floyd Mayweather is actually in the game "Knockout Kings 2000 (Box Champions 2000 in pal version)" ;-)
Greatest pound for pound boxer of all time is either Muhammad Ali or Sugar Ray Robinson. There are others who are great as well Jack Johnson, Floyd Mayweather (whom I hate BTW), Joe Jeannette, Sam Lankford, Joe Louis, Marvin Haggler, Sam McVey, Aaron Pryor, Julio Cesar Chavez, Ezzard Charles, Rocky Marciano, Joe Frazier, etc.
I heard of this game but thought it was only on PS1. I got Ready 2 Rumble on the N64. I think Fight Night Round 2 is the best boxing game in my opinion that I ever played.
***** fnr2 was an awesome boxing game!
***** The funny thing is I don't know boxing that well.
lol butter beans arms look wierd but looks quite a good game
Oh the memories.
***** :)
id say they are both sports and fighting games.
It’s the own genera. There sports fighting
Just bought this. Not that many copies out there, I don't think.
which is surprising for an EA game but you are right, I've had people ask to buy the CIB copy which i had a few times
I owned a copy of Ready to Rumble on DC but I couldn't get into it. Couldn't find any way of engaging with it. It wasn't as fun as Soul Calibur; and I'm not really into sports. I'd probably have given it a bit more of a chance if it had real boxers though. Although it's very unlikely I would've bought Knockout Kings on N64 of my own volition (being a sports game). I almost always prefer arcadey styles to straight simulation. Favourite boxer? I'm no expert of athleticism or playing style, so I'd probably go more with attitude, character and appearance. Even still I dunno...
see I loved r2r on DC - it ran insanely fast for the time and made it exciting to play
Bought ready to rumble instead. I'm happy.
I used to love this game I created myself and and would wreak havoc the combos were kinda slow but meh good game non the less
I found this one at a local thrift store a few years ago, and it is an ok game for a few rounds, but I get bored with it after that, but far as best boxer, I have to with George Foreman, not only because of his success in the ring, but his success outside of the ring, which a lot of boxers have not been able too do.
Commodorefan64 and who'd have thought he only got the grill gig because hulk hogan turned it down!
THE HAWK!!!! AMAZING SPEED
float like a butterfly.....
I'd class boxing games as sports. Best boxer, is Ali but Lewis is my fav
Jason Bassett big lennox, the guy who cant decide if he's canadian or english lol
Well he is English. Born in London. You can also say this about Owen Hargreaves. He's Canadian and played for England.
or me, my dad is canadian but i live in england hah
Duel nationality is a cool thing
To me, greatest boxer of all time is Muhammad Ali. But my all time favorite is between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto
James Braddock
Just bought this gem for 5 bucks at the local retro game store
Boxing is a sport. Therefor I place it in the sports genre.
SPac316 thats one way of looking at it, but as a gaming genre it shares many aspects with 3d fighters
great review Glenn, for me iron mike!
TootyUk i think he was the best ever, career ruined after getting his snake loose though!
Tyson will always be my favorite. But rocky marciano is the best ever.
Mike Tyson at his best 1987-96.
I shoulda bought this game new for $10 in 2002 @ SEARS. lol
no64dd that would have been an awesome price
this game dont have real mexicano
Muhammad Ali is the greatest.
I would say that Boxing games fall in between both the sports and fighting category.
MrBiggz A.K.A. Da Bad Guy yeah I'm swaying to that opinion too, its obv a sports but as a game genre it blurs lines
Lol. Sorry. I meant that he's retiring. Oh well
Rocky Marcciano is the greatest boxer of all time. He's the only heavy weight champion to retire undefeated. Lets compare that everyone's favorite, Muhammad Ali, who actually lost fights.
As for the game, I think I'm going to pass on this one Glenn. Boxing is a hobby of mine so I can do that in real life whenever I want, so I don't need a realistic sports game to play. Plus, I just picked up Punch-Out and Super Punch-Out, which are two of the best Boxing games of all time.
Jaeger Newman punch out is fun, i wasn't too keen on the wii version they released though
I thought it was fun if you play with just the Wiimoute, then it feels like the NES game. My favorite is Super Punch-Out.
I can tell you know shit about boxing . Just because Marciano retired undefeated doesnt make him the greatest . You have to look at who hes faught, new guy.
But by that logic, Rocky would still be the better fighter since he never fought an opponent better than him. If Muhammad Ali lost fights doesn't that mean there where people he fought who where better than him?
Roberto Duran is the greatest
I'm gonna cheat and say Little Mac. you cant go wrong with the bruiser from the bronx!
Amen to that!
id say sports but not all sport titles are bad lol and has to be ali
I guess the game is alright for fans.
I personally think boxing games are really boring.
This one is no exception. :-D
HagenFlachmann have you played ready to rumble on dreamcast? thats such a fun boxing game, a lot better than the n64 version
Nice game!!! And... Yup, I'm one who wants to beat the hell out of Floyd!!! I know where to go know. Man... PACQUIAO should've won the fight. Seems to me like that fight was fixed. Oh well. He said he's only up for one more fight, then he's quitting.
Ray Robinson
King Garcia good choice :)
OK, so first, if you're using the combo buttons, you're not good at this game. There's plenty of defense to be had as well--and in fact it's how you get good at the game. I actually find this to be a much better simulation than some later releases.
Anyway, Muhammad Ali is the greatest of all time and Tyson would have been but things didn't "go his way". Cuz Demato dying and the firing of Teddy Atlas was Tyson's downfall. If Demato would have reigned in Tyson and stuck with Atlas, Atlas could have taken over as Tyson's father figure and he would have made Tyson the greatest to ever play the sport. That didn't happen and Tyson was, well, a phenom and nothing more. I can't think of him losing to Buster Douglas as anything more indicative of his downfall.
p.s. for anyone who hasn't, you should really watch the Buster Douglas fight. Buster Douglas, for all intents and purposes, is and was a nobody. However, if you watch the match, Buster Douglas beat the shit out of Tyson (and Tyson was in his prime at the time).
INTRO: MUHAMMAD ALI!
belated but
Sugar Ray Robinson is the right answer.
BorrieBeats great choice :)
A good way to spend $4 if you ask me
Prince Naseem
the baby faced assassin outclassed that cornball.
ROCKY MARCIANO WAS THE BEST UNDEFEATED!
Good choice
The greatest boxer of all time is Joe Louis
To me is Marciano
pacquiao
butterbean!
Butterbean from the WWF came to my mind
It's the same one lol
Ollie Martin Jason Bassett remember at mania years back when he sparked out gunn haha
Lol yeah that's the only reason I knew him in this game. I always picked me because of that, needless to say my mate would pick someone who's actually good and whoop me . lol
Greatest boxer.... "Honey" Roy Palmer....lol
Chris Miller lol butter bean was cool when he was at wrestle mania and knocked out bart gunn
fighting games.
and MMA over boxing anyday
KWillis92 i hate MMA personally but i dig wrestling
pro wrestling or the actual kind?
pro :) jericho is my guy :)
ah. i used to love him. i havent watched pro wrestling in the longest time
i did an interview with him a few years back now, the video is one of the first i uploaded on this channel
Floyd Mayweather got all that money and he can't read for shit LOL wooooo
Tony Jermaine Robinson hmm maybe i should donate money to charity if he reads a full page of a harry potter book and posts a video
Lol
This game is trash
Good review but I am disappointed that you didn't mention that the referee sounds like, or possibly is, the referee from celebrity deathmatch. I would laugh at the way he says "Your done son"
