"........whenever your fans wanted to feel something, we went to Gladys Knight and the Pips....".
She helped me through so many bad times in my life.
God Bless you Gladys Knight. Thank you so much for the pleasures you have indulged me.

Della and Gladys are from two totally different generations. Della is from the era of big band, full orchestra, put up or shut up era. Gladys, on the other hand remained in the industry and evolved with the "hip hop" era. It's very apparent to me why Della doesn't understand hip hop. She came from a generation when excellence was standard. I don't blame her one second for not compromising her standards.....

Well Ms Reese is about 12/13 years older than Ms Knight. Ms Knight first started singing at the age of eight in 1952 (Ted Mack Amateur hour) as an amateur contestant. Then cut her first record the fabulous, The Pips in 1961 (Every Beat of My Heart) , which entered the Bill board hot 100 (Top6) that very same year. They were almost half a generation different but still grew up nonetheless with same values and attitudes towards a lot of things. Ma Reese started professionally singing as a teen in the mid to late 40s first with Ms Jackson, bands and as a Meditation singer but didn’t have a commercial hit until 1957 for “Don’t you know” just a 4 years earlier than Ms Knight. So I think it’s a bit unfair to say that they have extremely different values because they grew up give or take almost within the same generation. However your right with Ms Knight staying and keeping with musical changes , considering of course she’s 13 years younger than Ms Reese . Naturally, she’s a bit more tolerant of such changes. Heck, even Ms Fitzgerald kept up with musical changes well into the early 80s and she’s 14/15 years older than Ms Reese. I’m not taking anything away from Ms Reese for she is an incredibly gifted and talented performer. Good for Ms Reese for standing her ground and remaining true to herself 😊

Della threw a very shady remark @ Miss Ross during this interview. I like Della a lot, but I feel she is monopolizing Gladys interview. This was Gladys's turn to talk and Della wouldn't shut up.

I luv her 😘😘

Della telling the truth at 7:52, Gladys showing respect at 9:15 is so very touching. Della's voice and tone remind me of late Blondie Ballard, speaking of Rap, I've often wondered how Flo would have addressed that jundra.

@.40 I remember this like yesterday, they both wrote a book, this was on BET, and I believe Della Reese has one of her things and her book that she said something about she hasn't had the chance to do is, and I think she wrote I've been had the chance to sing with Gladys Knight, and then Gladys will be like Della so sweet, and then they'll be like I think she said when working on a gospel album now so maybe we can hook up on that, and then Delaware said something only if you'll do this for my album, I swear to God on my mom, that I literally rope is at point 40 seconds, not even watching it, because I talk text, so you can't hear it while you're speaking, but soon as she came out and hug Della Reese, I remember watching this as a kid, I have always had the most photogenic memory in my entire family.

but for some reason I did not remember him hosting it, I thought it was this guy that used to have this night talk show on BET I can't remember his first name but his last night was Stanley, the guy they countess Vaughn went on his show, to talk about her new show, the spin-off show from Moeisha, called The Parker's, and Usher was on there too, and usher went on first, countess came out, and was like I'll freak you right I will, singing that Melody, and Usher finished it.

Della needs to stop, trouble making ass. When we wanted to hear feeling we brought your records Gladys. I love Gladys and I am a fan but once again there goes the hating of Diana Ross because she is a bigger star then both of them. That's what's behind Dellas comment. Why the hell do you think we brought Diana's records then and after the early motown years. We felt her songs too. Della stop hating. Gladys thanks for not really feeding too much in to Dellas BS.

Della was interrupting Gladys' time a lot. In my opinion, in my opinion, in my opinion, I don't see the appeal of Diana Ross. She's not the best singer. Although, singing is only one aspect of a recording artist, albeit a major part, the other aspects don't add up to me. To me, she's a smart business woman, and her relationship to Barry, and what he liked in her is what made her a major star. It goes to show that it's not talent alone that can mske you into a major star. In my opinion, she wouldn't have made it without Barry. That's probably why it seems she always had those insecurities that she always had to push others down, she if she didn't, someone could easily take her spot.

  • @Lawrence_619

Im not going to roll my eyes at the late great Della Reese because she didnt realize there was some postive hip hip out here. And she wasn't looking down her nose either, because one of her best friends was Redd Foxx, who wasn't 'dirty'...HE WAS FILTHY, with his stand up act. So, I consider who Della listened to as she began to mold her own talent...and those people were, Mahalia Jackson, Lena Horne and Nat King Cole. Two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT generations, we're talking about here : hers and the hip hop generation.

I think Della was always a little jealous of Gladys. If you know Della's upbringing she, was a young star! She had a powerful voice at a young age, she was destined to be a hit. It never really panned out, in many ways Gladys reminds Della of what she could have been, and I think she hold a gripe against for it. Both women are great in their own rights! Legendary black queens.

Truth be told Dianna Ross was getting the attention not for having a big voice but sleeping around with th e Motown men starting with Berry Gordy. Unlike the other women from Motown that work their way to the top, Dianna screwed her way to the top very selfishly. Berry Gordy was a married man with his own family when he had the affairs with her and impregnated her. She even slept with Smokey Robinson, but wifey Claudette was not having it. Eddie Hendricks also had his turn with her as well. Where is Dianna Ross now? You don't see her around much. But the other artists are still seen and highly respected. Dianna Ross could sing but she never had a huge voice and definitely not the looks during the Motown years. Time and age did her a justice in terms of looks really.
